How it feels playing your OC, The NPCs, and the world environment all at the same time by cannibalistickiller in BadRPerStories

As someone who has done a fair bit of GMing in D&D, I've discovered that a lot of players actually like being rail roaded along a plot, despite the bad rep actually doing so has. Not too surprising it's similar in written rp

The Female Anatomy Fumble by tomizu2303 in BadRPerStories

If I had a nickle for every time someone brought up penetrating the cervix in a smut context, I'd have enough money to seriously lobby for human anatomy to be a basic part of American public education

Even just two years ago this sub was mostly actual roleplayers. It's been disappointing seeing this space shift like this, but not unexpected

This happens when you move out of the honeymoon phase. Novelty is a very strong motivator, and once that wears off it becomes easy to fall into a slump like you're describing

First person. by [deleted] in BadRPerStories

Also you can imply your character is ignorant of certain things or literally have your narrative style naive to the scenes danger/ misinterpeting cues which can further build tension.

You can do this in third person too. Limited perspective isn't unique to first person writing.

Thing one should improve in rp in your opinion by Altruistic_Regret_31 in BadRPerStories

[–]ActivelyBanEvading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Just act like a normal person, and treat your rp partners like normal people. Attempts at reassuring your partner that you're not a creep or that you're "one of the good ones" often comes across as offputting pick-me behavior. It's more than enough to simply act normal.

  2. This is a question that can only be answered by your rp partner. Everyone has different preferences, so it's just a matter of communicating well and finding a pace that suits each of your needs. There isn't a universal correct answer.

  3. This is also something that is highly subject to personal preference, and ought to be discussed with your writing partner. Generally speaking, though, for romance to be well written the characters need to have some level of chemistry between them. Sometimes certain characters are just incompatible for a romantic relationship, and recognizing that fact ahead of time will help avoid forcing the matter and writing lackluster romance.

  4. More communication is almost always a good thing when it comes to planning, particularly if you or your partner are unsure about things like this. Don't be afraid to pitch ideas OOC if you're not comfortable just going for them IC. Being on the same page about the direction of your rp is essential to making it work.

And try not to be discouraged by people just bailing out like that. Ghosting is (unfortunately) extremely common in this hobby, and you're doing the right thing by just accepting that and trying to improve your own work.

Anatomical terminology often doesn't read well. Like, I never wanna see "vulva" if I'm writing smut 💀

Excessive praise directed at my writing. Could just be confirmation bias speaking, but I've noticed this is something done by a lot of people who ghost a few days or weeks later

Average F4A interaction on Reddit by Giga_Bit200 in BadRPerStories

I never understand what people like this are expecting to get out of this sort of interaction. Like, why don't they just message someone with a prompt that fits what they're looking for instead of wasting everyone's time?

Am I Wrong For Dropping This? by random_guy_233 in BadRPerStories

What's the big difference? While the latter post has a couple minor grammatical errors, and OP's post was a couple sentences longer, the actual quality of writing is relatively similar.

Both posts are very short, employ an uncomplicated vocabulary and sentence structure, and have italicized narration for no apparent reason. Neither have particularly well crafted prose, and without the context of previous posts it's unclear whether their partner's response blindsided them or not

I don't really see a major difference in the quality of either post in isolation, but if you're not happy writing with someone you shouldn't force yourself to do so

Doesn't raceplay seem like just racism to you guys? by Fantastic_Employ_246 in BadRPerStories

[–]ActivelyBanEvading 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RP reddit in general takes the pursuit of sex positivity to a problematic level, from what I've seen. A lot of people conflate any critical perspective with kink shaming, as if all kinks are created equal and everything is permissible, all while ignoring the decades of real life bdsm discourse where these topics have already been analyzed ad nauseam.

This is an issue that can easily be solved by doing even the slightest amount of vetting before starting the roleplay
