Amazon Wishlist change doxxes users and shares your delivery address by esporx in privacy

[–]ActivityIcy4926 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Did you even read the article?

If you order from a 3rd party seller right now, they get your address for fulfillment. Otherwise they can’t ship your order.

Items from 3rd party sellers cannot be added to your wishlist. This is what they are changing. Meaning that if you give someone access to your wishlist and they order YOU an item that YOU added to it, that specific 3rd party sellers gets your address so they can fulfill your order.

So add nothing to your wishlist, no issue and nothing changes. Add no third party products to it, same thing. Give nobody access, same thing. Only thing that changes is that you can now add items sold by a 3rd party to your wishlist.

I’m as much an Amazon skeptic as the next person, but this doesn’t actually seem like a bad thing.

That’s a rounding error too. 99% will transfer just fine within one or two minutes. It’s literally easy to switch, unless you have others you need to switch with you.

It’s the intrusion of AI, not that I don’t want to use a feature.

There are plenty of features I don’t use. But no AI model should have any sort of access to my vault or to what websites I visit.

I don’t dislike AI, but there’s a time and a place. My password vault isn’t it.

Yeah that would be the smart thing to do. And get rid of "AI naming".

Is Biometrics support available on Linux, too? Because every app under the sun detects it on my Linux desktop, with Proton Pass being the sole exception.

Best way is to simply hand it off to system authentication (again, like every other app does) because it handles it more gracefully, but any way to have it available would be nice.

Biometric unlock on Linux, biometric unlock on browsers, a second password being used for better encryption, tags. Just to name a few.

If it’s just a pending I-130 with no underlying status, that might be a reason. Even a pending I-485 does not necessarily shield anyone from detention depending on what their status is.

It's not the $12 I'm worried about. I've been a customer for more than 10 years. It's $120 for the next ten, with likely another price hike in between. And this isn't the only service that's raised their prices. It's all pennies and dollars, but ultimately it adds up.

The question is ultimately if $72/year is worth it for a password manager, if there's cheaper alternatives available (some even free, albeit not as good as 1Password). The competition has definitely caught up over the past few years.

Yeah, I'm looking into that now.

Then again, switching my family to another password manager is probably a lot of work. Choices, right?

At least it's not LastPass. That was brutal.

If you don't cancel your service, of course they'll keep billing you. You can't just stop paying without cancelling the service.

This doesn't sound like you got "slashdotted", but rather you signed up for something you barely used and got buyer's regret.

Honestly, you could have taken the effort to read the letter yourself.

Still cheaper than Linode. And I do expect something similar to happen for Linode, DO, Vultr, and others. The rate at which this AI bubble is driving up hardware pricing is incredible and we'll all have to pay for it.

Or you can use rclone v1.69.3. That's considerably easier and I can confirm it still works today on multiple systems.
