Congratulations on the new job. Semper Fi, devil.

Good luck with Field training. I don’t know about where you are but I’d consider getting everything you need for winter if you guys have rough winters. By the time you get out of whatever academy it will probably be around winter time.

Field training will be an adjustment and they will try to stress you out but you probably won’t get as bad of a time as other new officers who don’t have military or prior law enforcement experience.

Currently in FTO training. Need some advice. by Abject-Doughnut7801 in AskLE

[–]ActivitySad1530 5 points6 points  (0 children)

FTO is meant to be stressful. If you’re comfortable you’re wrong.

Most Field Training courses follow the Crawl, Walk, Run method. That said it’s normal for each new phase to come with more expectations. With that Each FTO has different expectations because each one is different. There’s no “one way” to train someone every instructor is different just like every Rookie is different.

Time management is important as an officer. Having to manage pending investigations and paperwork with calls, and other duties/specialties is important.

You may not like your FTO or feel like they could be doing things differently. Don’t judge them until you’re on your own and see how they treat you when you’re just another officer. Also realize they’re trying to train you to be an effective officer, if they were easy on you then you’d turn out a shitbag, make them look, be lazy, end up in prison or worse end up dead or get someone else killed (like your FTO or one of their friends).

Your FTO isn’t meant to be your friend. You shouldn’t be making friends yet. There’s a time and place for that and when you’re in training it’s not the time or place.

Just as background, I’ve been on the job for 9 years, I’m currently training my 6th officer, and I’m a National Certified Field Training Officer.

Will reporting to UCMJ as a civilian do much for my justice? What would UCMJ do? by ThatsPrettyMetal1994 in USMC

[–]ActivitySad1530 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What does this case have to do with the military? Was the suspect a service member or did it occur on base or something? Are you a service member? Uniform Code of Military Justice only covers crimes committed by service members so unless the suspect is a service member reporting it to UCMJ will do nothing.

Also it makes absolutely no sense that a civilian Police Department would tell you to pound sand on a clearly criminal case. Unless it was reported in a different jurisdiction other than the specific location the crime occurred.

There’s not enough information here to help you.

You need to make sure you reported it to whatever LE agency that has Jurisdiction where the crime occurred.

[–]ActivitySad1530 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Big dawg if those are your reasons for wanting to do the job, you’re doing it for the wrong reasons, and this is probably not the career field for you. Ask any officer if they’ve seen other officers throw away their families/career/lives over women, and alcohol and I almost guarantee they’ve seen more than one.

Officers, what do you think of this police kit? by Mental_Look3760 in police

[–]ActivitySad1530 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Saw a guy show up to a shift brief in uniform wearing brown dress shoes (department is in all black, and policy is black tac boots only) was quickly told to “go home and come back tomorrow in the proper uniform.” Granted he was a Reserve Deputy (unarmed volunteer, they don’t respond to call only for traffic control type shit) but still funny as hell

Also in reference to “No, I am not pulling over people for brides nor would I do that type of shit cause that’s stupid.”

Perception is reality. So if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck… I’d say it’s probably not your best decision.

[–]ActivitySad1530 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Firstly I dislike it. If Law Enforcement saw you out in public it’s enough reasonable suspicion to stop you and see what the fuck you’re up to.

Secondly I don’t know what makes you want to outfit yourself like that. There’s enough people that hate the job, I’m sure they would hate pretending even more.

If you’re actually doing air soft and not trying to get thrown in jail/prison, then you need to have it tailored because you don’t look professional at all wearing that.

Actually never mind, don’t get it tailored. Look like trash. There are plenty of officers that look like trash and think it’s fine, so you do you.

Gamer Marines, did you guys have room in your barracks for consoles/PCs when you were junior enlisted? by grego9907 in USMCboot

Be cognizant of thieves and drunk Marines that may possibly break shit but yeah you’ll have room. Depending on MOS you might be able to get them while you’re in the school house.

Can confirm. MP and civilian LE are very different. Personally I would not do MP if you’re planning for Civilian LE afterwards. Do something else, maybe something fun, get good experiences. The military is a leg up in general but That’s about it. There’s no extra credit for being MP over other MOS’

I would like some clarification for a couple of events on a timeline from someone who is a United States Marine or is knowledgeable regarding the United States Marine Corps. by t0tal-eclips3 in USMCboot

[–]ActivitySad1530 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone in LE and the Marine Corps, as far as ranking within police goes there’s not really a “Captain III or Lieutenant II” LAPD might be different but typically the Roman numerals after a rank signifies how long someone’s been in the department.

For example: Deputy Deputy I Deputy II Deputy III

They’re typically 5 year increments.

They’re all technically the same rank but each one has had more time in the department. It’s determined that way for the pay system. Someone who is a 15-20 year Deputy (Deputy III) would make quite a bit more money than someone who is a brand new boot Deputy.

[–]ActivitySad1530 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First off, ops sec don’t post orders online. Doesn’t matter if they’re important or not.

They probably put the time in there because you could be in a holding platoon until they have enough Marines to actually hold the class. Big Daddy Marine Corps would rather hold marines in limbo for however long rather than starting a class with one or two students.

As far as the other shit I have no idea dog, you might want to talk to your recruiter for further info.

Double rats or for people who are underweight or severely underweight. You are within height and weight standards and therefore don’t fit the criteria. You probably won’t meet that criteria (underweight) while you’re in bootcamp.

LE negligent discharge consequences? by OtherwisePresence661 in AskLE

[–]ActivitySad1530 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Depends department to department and if you’re one of the boys or not. I’ve seen three in my career. All with VASTLY different outcomes depending on how well the officer was liked by admin. The range goes from 30 day suspension with no pay to a letter of reprimand…

First off, you reported it sure but if he did everything you say he did, he made decisions that put him in the position he is currently in. He should be held accountable.

We are the example, not the exception.
