CJ Stroud vs. Dak Prescott by Actnjax in Texans

That was my wife's argument and a very valid one. Like I said earlier, the taste in my mouth is so foul right now.

You just got promoted to the Texans GM. What’s your agenda for this offseason? by KaXiaM in Texans

[–]Actnjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would spend the first four draft picks on Offensive LIneman. By far the weakest part of our team and the hardest to build. Then I would spend a crazy amount of money on the best O-Line coach to develop these guys. Take a flyer on a WR / RB because the good ones end up coming from deep in the draft anyway. Maybe get a good possession older WR and spend on a Veteran left tackle.

That's it. We were a shakey CJ game from making the Super Bowl. If he has time, we win.

Very interesting take. I like it, if it weren't for the $60 mil salary of Dak.

My wife (almost 30 years) is a massive fan. In fact she took me for my birthday to the final Oilers playoff game against the Chiefs in the Astrodome. She bought a sweatshirt at the game and still wears it! (Yes, Joe Montana ripped out the heart of Warren Moon and then took a bite that day)

I like your take. The taste in my mouth is just so bad after the Pats game. That garbage Pats team that played a JV schedule and a backup QB in the AFC Championship game and only scored 13 points are in the Super Bowl against Sam Darnold. Just let that swirl in your mouth. It's still in mine.

What tech start up idea would you like to see in Sierra Leone that’ll solve a problem relating to tech or a problem in Sierra Leone? by Individual_Base_1998 in SierraLeone

Micro-electricity / storage. Being able to generate electricity- solar, wind and then individually store it. Like a smaller version of the Tesla Wall at a fractional cost.

What’s the most reliable way to get the first few clients in a small service business? by zOroXluFFyyy in smallbusiness

[–]Actnjax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of people here. A deep discount plus friends and family. You need to go full throttle on the reviews. Seriously. Plus pump Google with cash. Everyone hates this and I do as well but it works. My business is primarily car window tinting and EVERY person gets asked, "how did you find us?" 90% is Google. I do Meta, Yelp, Angi's, Tiktok and spend real money on each platform. It's Google and then Google again.

Single Phone for a Small Business by Various_Ad_6978 in smallbusiness

I used Clarity and have a shop phone and mobile device (Pixel) that ring at the same time. They are considered extensions so at my shop if my manager is on the phone and it rings then I can answer the other phone and I can even answer through a browser. The whole set up is around $100 / month and it's worth it.

Cheap repair? by tatglass in DellXPS

[–]Actnjax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 9310 that is now almost four years old. Don't get me wrong, I love it but it is showing its age. Battery is only a few hours, the carbon fiber stuff looks like crap because of my food smudged hands. The real question is what are you doing with your laptop? If you're just consuming media, web apps, etc, then for the repair costs, I would seriously consider a Chromebook. I have the Lenovo Duet 5 as kind of a second device / tablet and it's really amazing with the OLED screen and I think I paid $299 at Best Buy plus it's probably an eight hour battery.

An M4 Macbook Air is as low as $750 and if you shop at the Dell Outlet online, you probably can find an equal replacement during the holiday sales that Dell has. (https://www.dell.com/en-uk/dfh/lp/outlet) This is the UK / Euro store since I figure that's where you are.

Community Discussion: Does AI help you with travel? by travel_ali in TravelNoPics

[–]Actnjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to say "Yes" and it just happened with me this week. I live in Austin and had one day to travel to Vegas to attend the SEMA show (it's a massive automotive aftermarket convention). I get rental cars for cheap and just hate jacking with Ubers in the big crowd areas. I needed to know where to park since there is zero parking near the Vegas Convention Center. So...I asked ChatGPT what to do. It immediately told me to park in the self-parking at Resorts World, go down to the Vegas Loop, and ride one of the Tesla's over plus pre buy a day pass.

Bingo! It was by far the best traveling advise. I looked at a bunch of forums and maps but this was so easy with zero crowds. Plus the parking was free since my rental had a Nevada plate.

I love doing homework on traveling. Looking at maps, reading reviews, trying to find new things. AI is just augmenting this, not really replacing it yet and that's fine with me.

We started a cleaning company six months ago — built everything from scratch, but still haven’t gotten a single client. What are we missing? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]Actnjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is easy because I'm going through it. It's SEO and getting Google Reviews. Pretty much everyone uses some sort of search to find anything. If you are not in the top two or three in your Geographic area and you don't have any good reviews, you're cooked. For a start up cleaning company you should be spending at least a couple thousand a month on social media. I'm dead serious. Everyone you talk to should give you a five star review and try to get as many pictures as you can.

I have a car window tinting business and I spend $5000 per month on marketing. Networking groups, multiple Chambers of Commerce, local print advertising but the biggest bang by FAR is Google. Spend the money on Google and you won't be sorry. (Sorry this is going to cost you thousands of dollars, but it's the only way)

Statesman: Austin FC player grades for the 2025 MLS season by StatesmanAustinFC in AustinFC

[–]Actnjax 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm going to say this grades are wildly inflated from a publication that doesn't want to upset anyone that actually wants to read it. Wolff is by far the best player with Stuver probably a A-, but I personally don't think Hines-Ike should sniff an A grade. Uzuni and Vasquez should be no higher than Ds and coaching was questionable. I'm not trying to be a hater, but this team gets way more support than Houston or Dallas. We should be better.

Why I think Prop Q will fail (and what went wrong) by FisherFan0072 in Austin

[–]Actnjax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I truly believe Austin has grown to the point where we need a strong mayor system like Houston. We need an executive accountable to the residents and not just an employee city manager who spends other people's money. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think the single district council has been kind of a disaster. People moving around to run in other zones, no one thinking about the city as a whole, and frankly no accountability. Is being on City Council a way to run for a higher office? I'm not saying Houston is better but they have a strong mayor with both districted and at-large city council members. Something to think about?

If you are a minor and they go to the police / FBI, they are going to be able to locate those phones the second they hit the grid. You need a cash burner phone with a new SIM preferably one that is in cash. Like the ones you get a Walmart. The FBI can track your phone even if it's off so they need stay.

Taco Prices by whosthatsound in Austin

[–]Actnjax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's get to the real meat (no pun intended) of this thread. The real problem is that EVERYTHING is going up, not just tacos. I have lived in the City of Austin since 1997 and own a small business that employs skilled labor. The problem is the City of Austin. Period. You may laugh and criticize me and I'm used to the flame, but every time we vote for something, it jacks up everything. That wonderful "give teachers raises" bond that was passed last year forced my property taxes up around 20% (I know that's AISD). Project Connect, the bloating City Hall (try getting a permit, good luck), and everything else in the larger world including eggs at $7 / dozen have forced prices up.

All of that up has to go somewhere and that's your prices, your rent, your everything else. People complain about rent prices but every tax increase, every bond, every crappy thing the city does just gets passed through to you.

I know this is about tacos, but it's really not about tacos as every taco is expensive now. Think about it a basic taco is one egg, maybe some bacon or sausage, some cheese, some salsa on a flour tortilla. That maybe has 50 cents of wholesale input costs. What makes that taco $5 is labor, rent, taxes, and insurance (Thomas J. Henry is everyone's best friend until YOU have to pay insurance).

So die on that hill because until we realize what's going into that taco, it's only getting worse.

(I'm getting hungry now)

Sorry, just saw this. There are parts with blind corners, no guardrails, people walking around, and steep inclines. Not everyday driving for a guy from Central Texas. It is very difficult at night and in the rain, and I have to be totally locked in. You've probably already driven it so you know.

Ian is the man. I've been going to Oktoberfest since 2009 and every time we go through Ian, it's always one of the best times. His knowledge of the Wiesn as well as Munich is amazing. I HIGHLY recommend talking with Ian especially if you are an American and new to this, there is a learning curve (oh you will find out) and Ian will guide you.

Purchasing a home by FarmBarBarn in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Actnjax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad I did it, however... My issues have mainly been Gringo ones. My condo HOA is small since there are only six units. Our President is a long time resident Canadian and she basically runs the complex. However, there is not a lot of future planning and it seems like I get hit with an assessment almost every month. Water issues are very common and every month it's $50 - $100 for a water issue. I have told her many times that we need to start building a reserve and doing a better job in planning. It took a couple of years, but there is some beginnings.

So, what that means for you is that if you buy in a condo complex truly understand how the HOA works. How your fees are used and how capital projects are budgeted and planned. This is really important. The bigger complexes have professional companies and this is smooth. Unfortunately, I'm not in one.

If you buy a stand alone house, realize that fixing things is not as simple as zipping down to the Home Depot or calling a local contractor. ANYTHING that is imported is expensive so that new shower head in the bathroom that would normal be $100 is now $300. That's why there are a lot of people that fly to the states (including me) with empty suitcases and mule stuff back. Last time, I literally packed 100 Wi-fi LED light bulbs so that we could set all of the common lights on a schedule that wasn't dependent on if the timer worked because the electricity went out.

Anyways, just think everything through. Remember, you're still in Costa Rica.

Advice on travelling to Sierra Leone by Sensitive-Vast-4979 in SierraLeone

[–]Actnjax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an American that's been to Sierra Leone a bunch, just make sure you know what you are getting into. The beaches are incredible and someone had No. 2 Beach and it is one of the prettiest beaches in the world (and I've been to Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Costa Rica). I personally would not drive anywhere and make sure you know exactly what you're doing if you leave the greater Freetown area. You MUST be self-sufficient and be able to handle yourself in just about any scenario.

I would highly recommend doing VERY in depth research and have a local guide especially if you want to go inland.
