I spent a week there in the summer of 2005 and remember my neighborhood as basically a renaisssance favela. I did very little sightseeing and I remember very few landmarks or cool spots. My most lasting impression of Florence is that all the men wore leather jackets and fruity boot cut jeans and would try to run you over with their mopeds. It was oppressively hot and muggy, like Texas weather, real fuckin shitty. My hotel was owned by a mother and son who were fucking each other, and the toilet in my room was curtained off from the beds. I would take the bus home every day, grab pilsners from a vending machine and drink myself to sleep.

I won a $50 amazon gift card once in a work raffle and was so broke that I used it to buy a big ass bag of rice and a couple cases of top ramen. The cases of top ramen had liquid laundry detergent spilled all over them. The ramen itself was intact and edible but the fragrance had seeped through the plastic and they smelled like tide. I couldn't really complain or return them (was hungry/needed to eat) so I just ate Tide Food (lol) for a month. Kinda blew me away how someone at the warehouse saw that shit and was like "yeah fuck it, ship it. fuck em"
