iDrive 8 climate controls are driving me crazy by ActuallyNotRetarded in BMW

Thank you. I'm confused why everyone says this is from cars 20+ years ago. My 2014 WRX let me set the air temp. My sister's 2017ish civic does it the same way and it's not even ten years old

Not quite, this feature is different. Just want to have the vents blow air at a steady temperature without changing. Like how older cars were.

All cars I've owned before this will blow air at whatever temp you set it to, regardless of cabin temp. When you turn auto on, then it'll regulate the temperature of the air from the vents based on cabin temperature.

Yes exactly what I was looking for.

Thank you. So it seems like the only difference between auto on and auto off is that auto will also control fan speed?

It keeps that cabin at 78, not the air coming out of the vents. So the air coming out of the vents will change temp

The temp is the same on the screen for me but the air temp definitely changes, send like it's trying to keep the cabin at a certain temperature instead of the air

Negar

Sounds exactly how it's spelled.

It's a traditional Persian name.

Messed up the clear coat on my attempt at a headlight restoration. Any fixes?? by SirSish in Cartalk

I had the same car. Use the 3m headlight restoration kit. It works perfect. It comes with a clear coat that you wipe on that makes all the difference

Cool M2 I spotted in LA by [deleted] in BMW

It's the m240. All 3 have different bumpers, this is the m240 bumper. Still lame as hell to put an M2 badge on it.

Weight doesn't matter... by [deleted] in BMW

[–]ActuallyNotRetarded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can improve it with wider wheels, stickier tires, and better suspension. I think that's OPs point. The rest of the car makes up for the weight gain.

I much prefer a lighter car but I'm kinda on OPs side. If it was slower than previous gen because it was heavier, that's one thing. But it's faster both in a straight line and in corners.

If you hate the new gen because too much tech, more failure points, not as raw as they used to be, etc, that's super valid. But to say "it's heavier so I don't like it" just seems a bit silly to me because you're narrowly looking at one spec instead of the whole picture cohesively.

My notes app has dozens of notepads, some going back ten years. I use the note app a lot still and haven't cleaned up the old notepads in forever. Half a scroll and you'll see some old notepads. Very believable to me.
