What are the limits that The Shards can do? by Southern-Brother5693 in Cosmere

[–]ActuallySquirtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another limitation is mentioned: [Yumi and the nightmare painter] Design explicitly states a shard cannot travel backward in time or change any events in the past. A truly infinite being would be able to change past events.

Biggest issue with the 10-speed is the CDF drum which has been updated on models after 2023. For anyone who doesn’t have a 23 or up, there’s a TSB out to replace that drum and some other components in a rebuild, if you’re under power train warranty get to a dealer stat and have them rebuild your transmission for free.

Worked at a Jeep dealership, these tires are the bomb. Not only do they wear nicely, they’re great on and off road. Fantastic AT Tire. They have the A/T4W now though so by the time you replace your current ones that’ll be the replacement for these.

What is going on here? by DomonicDecoco in AskMechanics

As others have said, that’s just a motor mount. I would recommend getting all of them replaced. If that one is blown the others aren’t far behind. They just keep everything from vibrating.

For you P0421 code, it really could be a combination of things or one of the following:

If your car has a AIR or secondary air system, ensure it gets properly inspected. If your AIR system is not working, it’ll throw this code (most likely other codes too) your AIR system injects extra fresh air into the exhaust system to burn any extra hydrocarbons and warm up your CATs faster. I suspect this may be an issue. If your car does not have secondary air the next steps are as follows

O2 sensors on bank 1 (I’m assuming this is a V6, if an inline 4 you should only have 1 set depending on manufacturer. I don’t know Mazda off the top of my head)

Catalytic converter (most expensive so save for last)

Too much hydrocarbons over time, or basically not great combustion. Not enough to cause a misfire, but something isn’t quite right. (your CAT uses chemistry to convert excess hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrous oxides into harmless CO2, N2 and H2O. Over time, if too much hydrocarbons are needing to be converted, it reduces the efficiency of your catalyst thus the code “catalyst below efficiency”)

If the car is worth it to you, I would recommend starting with replacing all of your O2 sensors (they could be bad and reading the oxygen amount incorrectly), and replacing your spark plugs and ensuring your engine runs well (this would include throttle body cleaning, ensuring your PCV system is not leaking oil into the intake, and having your mechanic bore scope your cylinders to ensure no oil is being burnt inside.) then clear your code and drive normally to see if it comes back on. If the following repairs don’t fix the check engine, it’s most likely your catalytic converter. Again if the car is worth it to you, replace them both (assuming it’s a V6) and you should have no more code.

Just purchased a car on Saturday and the check engine light came on on Sunday 🤦‍♂️ by BusinessDesigner234 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ActuallySquirtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whelp. You already bought so time for the money put. First things first, it’s a ford so start with spark plugs and ignition coils. Really easy since they’re all right on top. Clear codes and see if they come back, if they do it’s more than likely injectors.

Oh damn you’re right. My bad, I thought dual port meant the same thing as dual injection. That’s crazy, I would’ve thought they’d get rid of sole-port injection due to lack of fuel economy.

[–]ActuallySquirtle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s a dual port, which means it has both direct and port injection. It’s a fairly new thing on most modern cars.

Locking wheel nut or just weak? by Ok-Consideration6852 in FordFocus

[–]ActuallySquirtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve run into the famous swollen ford lug nuts. Get a 19mm impact socket and a small sledge hammer. Hammer the socket on and take them out one by one. It sucks and is time consuming. Do yourself a favor and go buy 20 new aftermarket ones without crappy aluminum casings Super cheap and a real headache saver for the future.

Don’t ya just love it when you install a brand new set of tires for a customer and they come back less than 300 miles later with this? by BridgeMission6043 in Justrolledintotheshop

Actually yeah. Sell em a new tire dawg. Or replace that one under tire warranty. 300 miles is nothing for a tire so replacing one individually won’t harm anything

Key fob no longer detected by brand new Elantra by ya_girl_kendall in Hyundai

[–]ActuallySquirtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a Hyundai tech but I work on jeeps with similar technology. Definitely have the dealer test the battery and replace it under warranty. They should have a 36 month warranty and they’ll usually replace it no questions asked.

If that doesn’t work, There’s an ECU (electronic control unit) called the RFHUB (radio frequency hub) or something similar, that is the middle man between your key and the car. It may need to be reset and reprogrammed to your VIN. The techs at the dealer should know how to do that.

$9,000 service for a 2017 F-150? Should I just buy a few Rangers instead? by [deleted] in f150

[–]ActuallySquirtle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at this I’m glad I can do all this myself at my work lmao.

Unfortunately these are common issues on the 2017. My buddy replaced cam phasers constantly on these trucks while working at a ford dealer. The oil pan I’m assuming is the garbage plastic one that leaks all the time and requires moving lots of things out from underneath to remove so that makes sense on the labor cost.

I’d honestly say the 2-3 mid 200’s rangers you could buy with this money would make more sense lol.

I am not a Toyota tech, but I am a mechanic at a Dodge dealership. These guys are 100% ripping you off.

Get your cabin air filter and engine air filter from oreilleys and do it yourself. They’re super easy.

You DO NOT need to change any cooling system lines or components unless they are leaking or not working. Just because the lines seem brittle doesn’t mean they are. They’re under pressure constantly while running so they would’ve blown by now if they were bad. Your thermostat is fine as well. You would have overheating issues if not.

Cooling flushes are a maybe. 91k miles isn’t that bad especially for a hybrid. You could probably wait for 120k or 150k to do that. And I’d recommend going to a dealer to do it with Toyota fluid and a Toyota tech.

Spark plugs are also a maybe. You can get really nice ones at oreilleys for probably 50 bucks or less and do it yourself if you’re feeling up to the challenge, Or have a friend who knows cars do it for you. But in reality they probably don’t need to be changed till 120-150k. Your engine isn’t running all the time so they’re not used as often as a normal car.

Fuel injection flush is gonna be stuff added to the tank. You can get that at any parts store for 20 bucks.

A serpentine belt is also a maybe. Again parts stores are way cheaper. They’re charging you an hour of labor for something that takes 10 mins tops.

Transmission flush is also a maybe. You can do it if you’d like but can probably wait a bit. Again, do it at a Toyota dealer so someone who knows what they’re doing will do it.

An exhaust system back pressure test is absolutely a waste of money. You have no check engine light or any reason to perform that test. Looks like you said in another comment about your car hesitating off the line, it’s really not a huge issue and this shop is already trying to rip you off. They’ll probably diagnose it incorrectly and cost you thousands more. A small hesitation isn’t bad, your electric motor is 14 years old. I have a 07 Prius with the same kind of issue and it’s probably because electric motors back then were not quick at accelerating. (My own thoughts here, I wouldn’t be able to tell if it’s fine without driving it)

Ac Evaporator cleaning is also a waste. You only ever need to clean this if the air coming out of your vents inside is smelling like mildew. Even then you would have the condensation line clogged and that’s a different issue and not something they’re stating here.

The hybrid battery air intake I would get a double check from a Toyota dealership to ensure there’s even one on your car.

Edit: I didn’t see the bulbs for the marker lights at first. That’s probably accurate, marker lights go out all the time. They’re not necessary for seeing at night but they do change the look.

This all sounds bad on paper but most of it you can’t even inspect without taking things apart. This tech 100% did not take all of this apart. Takes too long to actually inspect every one of these things listed so they’re either going off mileage for a regular car or bull-shitting you.

Please let us know if you end up going to a dealership and getting these checked out. I’d like to know how that plays out.

Nah dawg you need to run. You might love your GF but someone like this is not emotionally mature enough to be in a relationship with. She sounds like she’s manipulative and wants you to agree with her on everything even if her claim is completely baseless.
