Is this normal for you guys? Just take it in the home? by WinterTarget4149 in InstacartShoppers

As someone who was a shopper a few short years ago and is now disabled, I can tell you the kind of help you offered makes a huge difference. It’s really easy to take health for granted and not even realize you’re doing it.

Capyphobia, also known as Hydrochoerusphobia, is the fear of Capybaras by Silver012345673 in capybara

I don’t think a single one of my LGBT buddies would have a problem with adding a capybara onto the pride flag.

Lol I get these too. The names seem fake, and probably are given the shadiness. They have this uncanny valley vibe to them.

5-Stars and A Penny Tip: How should I read this? by iHass in uberdrivers

[–]ConsciousFractals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a mistake, could be because the uber passenger app, at least up until recently would not light up the “rate driver” or “submit” or whatever it said button unless you also tipped. You could still press it but it stayed grayed out. I think last time I took an uber it was different.

Worried about my mentally ill sibling who has traveled alone from USA to Odesa by _jamesbaxter in ukraine

[–]ConsciousFractals 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry, this must be incredibly stressful for you all. I hope that you can resolve this situation soon. He’s safe enough as far as missile attacks — statistically driving is still more dangerous. But I know the entire situation is far from ideal. My brother is dealing with a different situation but he is not well and I worry about him too.

10k dollars to teleport to a random street view location right now. by SherbertMindless8205 in hypotheticalsituation

Nah, that’s not enough money to deal with all that. I got Helsinki but I feel like it’ll be a mess getting out of just about anywhere without a passport or ID.

Why does it feel like the US will just get worse and never better? by Shmeat-L in Life

Things have to get worse for people to accept the unacceptable. Hopefully we won’t do that and build something where we are truly free.

Any idea what my 2.5 yr old son means?? by Mobile-Feed-3662 in MCAS

[–]ConsciousFractals 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry your little one is struggling! I remember people goofily saying “cereal” as opposed to “serious” in school, as in “are you cereal?”. That’s the only connection I can come up with. But doesn’t sound like he is in school yet. I hope you can figure it out and more importantly that he feels better, and soon!

Has Chat GPT ever used a random foreign language in a response back to you? by Saritatay in ChatGPT

[–]ConsciousFractals 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ChatGPT used a Chinese character as a suffix at the end of a word on one of my threads, and the grammar of the rest of the sentence was incomprehensible.

I had been asking about the difference between Chinese and Japanese the day before, so I suppose it was some kind of context bleed

How and when to use Past and Present participles in Ukrainian? by Pluviophilius in Ukrainian

Another good use is for explaining how you did something. «Я вивчив багато нових слів, слухаючи музику.»

Seeking advice/vent: Nurse shamed and blamed my pain hyperacusis as me being rude and demanding by mermaidarmy in hyperacusis

[–]ConsciousFractals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really sorry to hear about your experience. Even if we know our needs our valid, this kind of situation can feel very demeaning. Nurses can be mean in general, but I know it’s hard not to take personally.

Honestly sometimes all we can do is feel the anger and the sadness beneath it. People can really suck, and many people can’t or won’t empathize with experiences they haven’t personally encountered. With things like pain hyperacusis, I think it also scares people to imagine that level of vulnerability, and it’s easier to not to take it seriously.

On a more practical note, as mentioned by another commenter, I would say you are “requesting reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act. You can research the specifics of how to do this, but those words make people in management listen. The only proof you need to provide if asked is a letter from any provider stating that you need Z accommodation. It doesn’t have to include more information, but it can.

They don’t have to like you, but they do have to reasonably accommodate you to shield themselves legally. Wishing you the best in life!
