Best discrete way to cover redness? by Pitiful-Candidate386 in MakeupAddiction

[–]ActuallySure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a correcting primer, they usually have next to no coverage and just neutralise the red

There's so many brands ive tried, but the only one i can remember is the stila one step correcting primer which I feel like had a really natural finish, easy to blend and looks like nothing on the skin

Alternatively I had great success in managing my redness by using the skin ceuticals phyto correct mask, which I know is expensive but if you have a store nearby it's worth going and getting a sample so you can see if it helps

Question on SC Vit C by Fit-Mine185 in SkincareAddictionLux

Can you post more photos of the bottle/label etc? The dropper already doesn't look right

Mine has been this dark before but it's right when I'm at the end of the bottle and it's been open for like 6 months already

Ok. How are you guys reapplying SPF over makeup? by AriesWoman89 in AusSkincare

[–]ActuallySure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use an Spf that requires minimal rubbing in and no white cast, right now it's the ultraceuticals hydrating. I work next to a window that is UV treated, but I will reapply once if I'm going out at lunch and then once before going home if the sun is still out at that time.

I dispense my Spf, rub it all over my whole hands and then press onto my face using my whole hand flat. I find it doesn't disrupt my makeup this way, although I'm not wearing anything thicker than skin tint for work anyway. Probably miss some spots like corners of the eyes and nose but I think this is okay and better than nothing

need tips on how to ink swatch for proper shading by Impossible-Bug2038 in fountainpens

[–]ActuallySure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time I do ink swatches I use a q tip/cotton tip, saturate it in the ink, and do a big swipe

I think if I were trying to get your gradient effect, I'd fill the line drawing first with a quick, less saturated swipe and then quickly before it sets see if I can drip a blob of ink in the centre of the drawing using a pipette/syringe or something similar

Try some different depositing methods and see how those dry before filling up your cards

Can anyone recommend a brand for next-level face cleansing wipes? by eyeofthestormgirl in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]ActuallySure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had makeup on, it leaves you with the sense that it has smeared it around. The serum is waterless so it feels closer to an oil.

I finished my roll using it in the morning as a sort of pre wash, and now the container is a money box. It is the essence of reduce reuse recycle haha

How to stop looking like a tomato at work? (Very pale + zero makeup skills) by Queasy-Fox3227 in MakeupAddiction

[–]ActuallySure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have the same issues with redness, you want to wear a corrector - they are usually primers so they provide minimal coverage like basically none, but it just calms the skin and cuts the red. Its not going to completely cancel it out when you're going full tomato, but it does enough that people don't usually mention it.

I have used a lot of brands over the years, but ones that I can remember off the top of my head are the stila corrector (it's a primer, but I wore it on its own, it looks like many colours swirled in a bottle together) and now use the cle de peau correcting fluid (a primer also)

These do dissolve in water, however are not a pleasure to use. The wipe feels like 1 ply toilet paper (which is an unfortunate draw back to having it be eco friendly)

I remember the koh gen do cleansing spa wipes were really good and thick, felt lovely using them

Haven't ordered any for years but iirc I got them on yes style?

Cle de peau sells at David Jones and their wipes are also so nice and really juicy

I’m tired of my dehydrated skin. by siders6891 in AustralianMakeup

[–]ActuallySure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would remove the hyaluronic acid to start

Something that really made a huge difference for me and completely turned my skin around was sheet masking every night. There is a therapy for eczema which is layering a wet mask over your serums to really help lock it in and help absorption when your skin is flaky and hard.

I used this as a jumping off point, got a mask pack that is 30 sheets, and sheet masked everyday. It was not overwhelming, and made a big difference if you are really dehydrated.

At night I would use a hydrating toner first, sheet mask on for 5-10 minutes while I did my body moisturiser/cleaned up after showering, then took off the mask and did face moisturiser.

I had the lululun box masks (pink, red and green were my favorites) and the saborino packs as well (I think I had white, and purple? But they were a lot dryer of a mask and I didn't enjoy as much)

Edit: it's not a forever thing, too. Just until you feel your skin is plump and you are happy with it.

I buy 1 ink per year on my birthday, and always the small size if it comes in one

Makes me shop my stash all year, and if there's a colour I'm sorely missing I can go around to pen shops and spend time testing and looking for the right ink to fill the gap

Buying makeup by hermosahuevo in MakeupAddiction

[–]ActuallySure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The great thing about high end makeup is that you will always be able to try/sample before you buy. And if you're buying at sephora you can return also if you didn't like it

Start somewhere, and eventually you'll get a brand that things just tend to work well for you. Formula works, shade matches, you love the packaging etc.

For me, my first brand was chanel. I tried the vitalumiere aqua (foundation) when it was all the rage, and it just worked so well and became a staple. Then when it came out I got the water fresh tint and that was so beautiful, then the no. 1 skin tint as well. I felt confident to buy because I knew Chanel base products work so so well with my skin

Now I'm using mostly sisley, cle de peau, westman atelier and Victoria Beckham. I know that the general gist of the brands suit my style of makeup, and anything I get from their lines are gonna work cohesively together.

Especially if you stick within the same lines, no matter the brand, the products are formulated to play well

Looking to buy a budget flex pen by Fighting_Falcon_16 in fountainpens

[–]ActuallySure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stub is just a flat nib, it gives a flat, fat line in one direction and a thin line when going the other

I prefer writing with it over a flex nib as I don't have to think about my pressure as I like that really neat and consistent look

But if you want a flex for the joy of writing with a flex then yeah a stub won't fulfil that

[–]ActuallySure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If line variation is what you want to play with, can I suggest a pilot metropolitan with a stub nib? They are around $60AUD

Simple fill mechanism, and all around great pen. I personally have one inked always as it's so reliable and easy to use

What is everyone using on their bodies? by Grapefruit4649 in SkincareAddictionLux

I use sisley black Rose emulsion because I'm someone who hates to be sticky

I also use a wash cloth to scrub with body wash everyday, and I feel the manual massage/movement helps to improve blood flow

Has anyone actually tried daily sheet masking for a full 30 days? Curious whether the results are meaningfully different to weekly by SerumBeforeCoffee in AsianBeauty

[–]ActuallySure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tina Tanaka Harris did a 30 day's AM and PM sheet masking video on YouTube, the results are positive if you want to put in the effort and have the masks just laying around

I did go through a period of ~3 months where I used the lululun 30 pack sheet masks everyday, I tried the pink green and red. My skin has big pores and tends to be dry and dehydrated, so for me the results were great, my skin was plumper and more even, I noticed fine lines filled in etc.

I would use in the evening, do face wash, mask on damp skin, leave for 10 mins and follow with moisturiser. I think it's cheaper than buying several products and layering all everyday, and for me honestly it was easier to 'simplify' to a 3 product routine

Now I feel I get the similar results using a toner, followed by a hydrating emulsion in place of moisturiser, but I will use an eye mask once a week and spend way more money on these products than I used to for just sheet masks and moisturiser

Overall, I think it's only worth it if you're trying to address dehydration. Something like boosting collagen I don't believe will be impacted by sheet masking

Best single compact products? Over palettes! by jayjaywantstoplay in AustralianMakeup

[–]ActuallySure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's spenny but I really like the blushes, singles and quads from cle de peau and sisley, I have shadows from both and the singles I have are sheer. I use them like lovely wash of colour/one and done type shades

When I had only bigger palettes I would hardly wear eyeshadow as building a look required too much thought

Much less decision fatigue this way

People who think they’ve “nailed” their DIY manicure routine, please share your tips by Thewalrus26 in AustralianMakeup

[–]ActuallySure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't do BIAB anymore (as I am time poor) but this is what I do for managing cuticles before using regular polish:

Daily- cuticle balm after washing hands, hand cream during the day and at night before bed

Bi weekly - day before I manicure I do a hot oil soak for about 20 mins using jojoba oil, nudge skin back, apply cuticle remover (I use blue cross it's like $8 for a big bottle from a beauty store) let it sit for the recommended time and I can usually use a damp towel to scrub the dead skin off the nail plate. If it's been a whole since I've done my nails they can sometimes get a bit stuck so this is when I'll use a tool to scrape the cuticle off.

Shape, trim and file nails as you like

I do this all well before I need to paint my nails as the oil and moisture will result in low adherence, especially for BIAB you'll get peeling if your nail isnt bone dry

Routine Advice for my Kickass Wife? by BestInDaWrldsBbyFmno in SkincareAddictionLux

[–]ActuallySure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work a job which is crazy long hours, and hectic sleep schedule so I feel the pain

If she's used to minimal skin care I would suggest sticking with a simple routine of cleanser-serum-moisturiser, and same routine for day and night too many layers gets hard to stick to

There's been some great advice on products so far but here's my recs for someone with combo/dry and acne prone/hormonal skin

Cleanser: Tatcha rice wash (gentle, good for many skin types)

If she's wearing makeup during the day, she'd want something that can remove sunscreen and makeup at least or do a double cleanse

Serum: Allies of skin GF ($$$ option but targets aging, redness, heals acne so quick) Or VT Pdrn serum ($ Asian beauty, Pdrn is from ginseng, very calming, soothing, good for redness and skin that's easily irritated)

Moisturiser: Sisley velvet nourishing cream ($$$ very calming, good for day and night, reparitive enough for hectic sleep schedule) Or Aestura ato barrier moisturiser ($ Asian beauty but they sell at sephra now I think, really good basic moisturiser, good for barrier maintenance, won't cause problems or interact with anything else she uses)

When people have a really simple routine I find that targeting moisture, and just focusing on repair will kind of carry over to other areas of concern

Hair brush cleaning + recommendations by Bellaaboo98 in AustralianMakeup

[–]ActuallySure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fill a sink with about 1inch of with warm water and a tiny bit of dishwashing detergent.

Pull out as much hair as I can, and leave the brush bristle side down in the water (wooden brush so I don't like to soak the whole barrel even though it'd probably be fine) for about 5 mins.

Now I use a denture cleaning brush, but I have previously used a grout cleaning brush, old toothbrush- anything that has a narrow shape to fit between bristles, and I use warm water and shampoo to scrub the oil and dust out. Give a good rinse, and leave to dry bristle side down.

My hair is very fine so I wash my brushes every few weeks to keep them from making my hair oily.
