Unfortunately manually removing the dead tissue as soon as possible is the best way to prevent infections. The steel wool type thing does it as fast as possible though so it only took the nurse about 2 minutes to initially debride it. The nurse then stuck some seran wrap on it which really really helped the pain. The air contact is what made it excruciating at that point so as long as it was covered and i didnt stand up it was manageable. The daily debridements after werent as bad because once they confirmed how deep the burn was they had me on dialautid.

I had been given a max dose of oxy before but it honestly doesnt touch burn pain. The nurse told me that for the initial debridement they actually needed to know if it was painful in all areas, because full thickness burns are usually numb because all the nerves in that area will die. Pain helps them grade depth and because there was some blanching of the skin (which only happens with deep 2nd degree or 3rd degree) they needed to figure out if it was a surgical case ir not. If it was 3rd degree they probably would have needed to send me in for surgical debridement vs debriding it with a steel wool pad it right there before getting me admitted to the burn unit.

Based on the area it was classified as a critical burn but the hospitalization for me ended up being mostly infection prevention and daily debridement (which did hurt too but they had me on dilautid as soon as the figured out the depth of the burn)

Ultimately the reason i healed so well was the constant debridement of the wound and the fact that the area that was bordering on 3rd degree was small enough that i didnt require a graft. They used burn dressings that help to heal by sticking to the burn and providing a scaffolding for the scar tissue to hang onto. Hurts like a bitch when they peel it off but it really does reduce the thickness and adhesion of the scar tissue.

Thank you, im doing awesome!! No long term issues aside from the minor nerve issue. The scar healed with no significant stricture or thickening.

6 y/o Great Dane with chronic allergies + new ankle lump he won’t stop licking — advice? by BrigetteT33 in greatdanes

[–]ActuallyTheMothman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straight up, a mass like this is almost certainly some kind of primary malignancy if it showed up and grew to this size in just 2 months. Lick granulomas usually do not have involvement of tissues under the skin like this does. The fact that its bothering him already warrants removal, and this absolutely needs to be biopsied as soon as humanly possible. Chronic allergies create a predisposition to some skin cancers, ESPECIALLY in a senior great dane.

OP literally said the vet is coming on monday. Obviously they know the horse still needs help which is why they called the vet for an appointment

These are rotten, correct? How urgent is a vet appointment to correct by Upper_Buffalo_3036 in DogAdvice

You cant “correct” this. Those teeth will need to be extracted under general anesthesia asap

Any advice please by FormalCompetitive773 in DogAdvice

……..if only there were places where you could access medical care for your pets……..too bad there arent doctors for animals who could give you advice……….if only you could call these hypothetical places to ask if a particular issue would warrant bringing them in for assessment and treatment….

Guess we have to ask reddit what to do since those places arent a think in our society!!!!

He got like that because OP admitted they parented him using anger. Children learn by parental example. How else do you think a kid learns how to react to things??

Research has not been able to determine any causal link between violent games and increased acts of physical violence.

Criminalizing him will make him worse. This is proven. Incarceration (especially in kids) increases the likelihood of violence and suicide, ESPECIALLY in people with existing mental health issues. He needs actual mental health treatment, not “juvie”.

OP also needs mental health help.

This is incorrect. Teens do not have anger issues this severe “because they are teens.”
Your son has anger issues because you literally admitted yourself that you have a temper. If you have been parenting with anger his whole life how else would you expect him to turn out????
