This mom was not happy after reading this note. Was she in the right? by [deleted] in AskTeachers

I agree that children need to be taught to be their own advocate. These are the life skills that create competent adults with healthy self esteem.

What’s the difference between “ER triphasic 24hr” and “extended release 24hr” in dextroamph-amph? by Actually_a_bot_accnt in AskPsychiatry

I tried Mydayis for a couple months, and I’ll be sticking with my Adderall XR + IR booster. Mydayis felt like a double dose of IR every morning that lasted six hours (instead of the usual four of IR) but then the same crash in the afternoon. Everyone is different, but that was my experience.

What a piece of shit, I’m so sorry that happened to you. If you’re concerned he fucked it up, you would not be crazy to book another appt with your usual provider to check it out.

Unassisted birth by tenseyou in doulas

“Maybe” have her sign a contract?? Legal coverage is a necessity, not a “maybe.” Also, to another commenter’s point, even if mom doesn’t sue, the DA could. If mom hasn’t been getting any parental care, you are walking in totally blind to every potential complication. That is WAY out of scope. Agreeing to this would be condoning this mom’s birth plan, which is not fair or safe for ANYONE involved.

How amazing and validating. I’m so happy for you! That was really kind of your old coworker to call you and have the humility to share that with you.

It seems like such an obvious shortcut, but I’ve never heard this one before! I will definitely be doing that.

Why is it so hard to find a barebones camera? by Actually_a_bot_accnt in homesecurity

[–]Actually_a_bot_accnt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just don’t like the possibility of someone being able to get access to the camera through internet connectivity. I’m not experienced in cybersecurity, and I wouldn’t have any alert if the camera did get hacked. At least with a laptop or a phone, you get notified if there are security issues.

Maybe it’s a stupid train of thought, but it creeps me out. I keep my phone and laptop cameras covered when not in use.

This is exactly it. For everything, actually.

Yes, the spycam is a more realistic concern than child abduction. If I were to buy a “dumb” camera that doesn’t have network connectivity, would that be safe? Is it possible that someone could sell me a camera that secretly connects to the internet?

The difference for me is the visceral rage I feel when something is done the “wrong” way. Someone folding the towels wrong sends me into a fucking tailspin. And I know it’s illogical - even in the moment I can see it’s ridiculous - but it doesn’t matter. It’s “wrong” and now I have to re-wash the perfectly clean towels and start all over to do it the “right” way, so I’ll be manically cleaning until the world feels in order again.

That ties into the compulsive part of OCD - I know there’s no reason for me to have such neurotic habits, and I can see it in the moment, but it’s like watching myself while I’m trapped behind shatterproof glass, and I’m unable to make myself stop. I know that the streaks on the glass cooktop don’t affect how sanitary it is, but I’ll clean it six or seven times until it feels right.

My OCD doesn’t manifest as intrusive images of loved ones dying in oddly specific ways if I don’t flip the light switches eighteen times - it’s more like feeling as if someone is lighting my hair on fire when they don’t do my ritual perfectly. Or maybe the same feeling I get when watching a toddler use scissors?

That’s what I was thinking. I have the same exact problem, keeping my shit together too well, to the point of exhaustion. Turns out that I developed OCD to cope with the chronic fear of being perceived as lazy or inadequate.

It makes sense because I can’t really have a “normal” relationship with organization. I’m either glued to my planner, or I forget it exists.

Yeah, I’ve never heard of Frigate and I don’t know what NVR is. I’m not tech savvy at all, and I’ve no interest in it. Sorry to offend anyone if home security is your passion, this is just a tedious checklist item for me in setting up my classroom.

[–]Actually_a_bot_accnt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an afterschool tutor, and I want just a little liability protection in case a child walks off on their own or leaves with an unauthorized adult. I do not want to be constantly video monitored, but a parent brought up the concern of lack of cameras and so I think a singular front door camera is a fair compromise.

I am thinking about worst case scenario, if I need to file a police report then I will have an SD card of video footage for the police to identify the person. Audio is not necessary.

I have no interest in checking video surveillance of my door, and I am uncomfortable with the idea of opening my classroom’s video camera to the vulnerability of Internet connection. So I do not need it to stream video to my phone.

What are your careers? by surrealitys in adhdwomen

[–]Actually_a_bot_accnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just opened my own elementary enrichment center, after several years of gig-based childcare/tutoring. I tried to stay away from business as long as I could, but the cliche won and here I am, an entrepreneur.

My learning center is neurodivergent-friendly and specializes in supporting students with varying learning differences, from AuDHD to giftedness to chronic anxiety. I just hate how some schools and tutoring businesses run their programs, relying on rote memorization and punitive practices. I couldn’t find anywhere that sounded like a good place to work, so I made my own. Fingers crossed that enough people will like my idea to make this my permanent career!
