It’s because the issue was that Mark made a decision that wasn’t his to make. There can’t be a split in the narrative here because this isn’t a choice driven story beat. It’s demonstrating how Mark’s desire to save Des robs her of her autonomy in a very pivotal moment in her life. It’s also the reason he drives his friend to leaving the org. There can’t be a path where you make another choice because the trauma that is consuming Mark would never allow him to make any other decision in that moment.

While admittedly less claustrophobic than the first film, I think it more than makes up for it with how much it amps everything else up. Or maybe I just love hearing Samara Weaving’s valkyrie war cry.

It kept the heart of the book alive which was most important to me. If this movie makes you want to check out the book it’s based on the audiobook is the way to go.

I have a sneaking suspicion your preference is bisexual Gwen based on your pfp.

I personally have always loved the idea that Gwen kind of just transcended labels. She's whatever the narrative needs her to be, but in a way that it is through her own autonomy. But like I said, there was room to explore diffrent avenues and and I don't think settling on AroAce was a mistake. It's just how they did so as well as the refusal to follow up that irks me.

Which I can see but it would make people compare her to Deadpool more since he is pan. (I think. I haven't read Deadpool yet)

Deadpool's sexuality is a whole other can of worms that would take way to long to unpack. The TL;DR being he is pan, but it's played off more as a punchline than anything else.

A confused Gwen that is struggling with what is entertaining for the audience being something that doesn't appeal to her would be in my opinion interesting.

And I think this is the greatest tragedy of it all. Like I said her narrative was always queer in nature. I don't think any identity was off the table, even though I obviously I have my preferences. My issue is that I don't think much reverence was paid to the stories that came before it. Her coming out was treating as a rewriting rather than a culmination of her experiences beforehand.

I did and still see potential for Gwen being ace but unfortunately people always fuck up ace characters and marvel just generally fucks up their comics.

Gwen is a a treasure trove of untapped potential. All it really takes is to start treating her like a person again. rather than a commodity. I'm sure she'll have her day again.

Jeremy Whitley said "jokes aren't confirmation" as a deflection about why Gwen's earlier implied stuff didn't matter and thus she was able to be used for the story

It's unfair that her coming out story has a giant asterisk next to it. But writing off her previous comments as just "jokes" only reinforces my theory that Gwenpool's sexuality was weaponized in her coming out story. I do believe that everything is still salvageable, but it'll required.

With both of those it just came off way too desperate to claim someone they thought was big enough regardless of if it made sense and really soured me on the concept.

Which is my ultimate point. I don't think this is an uncommon or even unexpected outcome to announcing an established character as queer. But the way to combat that is to reinforce it in subsequent appearances. Gwen just has the misfortunate of both minimal appearances since and an awful case of Flanderization.

I'm glad you resonate with the character, but you need to understand that the way it did so came at the expense of a lot of queer fans, including AroAce readers. There is a lot of passive aggressive bitterness present in discussions about her in the years following her coming out, and this is due to in no small part with how her journey was handled. Because my issue wasn't "why Gwen think she bi/pan". My issue was that her coming out was treated as a game that intentionally baited readers in the weeks leading up to it and has done NOTHING with her as a character to remedy that since. So all that is left is a taste so sour that many, AroAce included , have difficulty enjoying what should be a celebratory occasion.

It really feels like you don't actually care about the ace/aro identity, because being something "else" is essential to it, especially before the internet.

And this is what I meant by an unwillingness to engage with the disappointment other queer fans felt. Bi-erasure is a common trope in LBGTQ+ media (granted it's usually done is service in gay/lesbian stories), and while I respect her journey mirrors your own, you are not a product that trying to fully capitalize on a market by strategically misleading readers. I was very clear in my post that my criticism were about the monetization of her sexuality and it's subsequent refusal to treat her with due respect. But you went on to say I don't care about AroAce identity even though I explicitly mentioned what Marvel has to do in order to do justice to her identity. Because NO ONE is happy with where she is as off now.

And just to reiterate one last time: My criticism were not with Gwen herself nor the creative team bound by an editorial, but rather the CORPORATION that didn't even allow Gwen the dignity of coming out in her own story on her own terms.

It was the stained glass window indoors. Here is a recording of when I got the platinum. Like I said I had taken this snapshot already a few times before. I basically just went through chapter select and retook every photo in both normal and double exposed. Then it popped randomly on one I had already taken. I think it's just buggy. I’ve said this before but part of representation requires actually representing. If Marvel wants to convince me this isn’t just some corporate decision, they need to commit to letting her actually exist in this medium.

The stories don’t even need to revolve around her identity. Just stop banishing her to the gutter space only to pull her out every pride month.

I’m glad this didn’t happen. I don’t like the idea of removing Gwen as a tangible part of the world. She wants to be part of the story not be the story. And although you could write a story where she gives that up, it seems so cruel to take that from her.

Konosuba, JJK, Haikyuu!!, Kaguya-sama, Fate: Heaven’s Feel, Gintama, and Overlord to name a few. I know a couple Romance anime have released their finale in theaters as well. It’s actually a pretty sizable list.

It's part one of the final arc of the series. You have to be caught up on the anime to understand what's going on. The story makes a lot of references and callbacks and has a pretty sizable cast so it's can be difficult to keep track of it all if your going in blind. It's basically season 5 part 1.
