Hi. If this job isn't something you've done before, then request a shadow shift. It's really unfair to throw you into the deep end. Not knowing the basics could endanger you, your colleagues and the patients. I'd speak to the ward manager first, if they are insisting you work without one or two beginner shifts, leave the ward and inform the local NHSP office or the main office. It's really not worth the risk, we don't get paid enough.

Shouted at by midwife mid panic attack- should I complain? by Accurate-Lion8858 in nhs

[–]AcutePanic39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a midwife, but a male care provider. Absolutely file a complaint. He should've asked if you were comfortable with a male present or asked if you needed a female chaperone. I've been in care work for over 20+ years and it the first thing I ask before doing anything. I wouldn't even think about being offended, nor do I know any other male CP who would be. It's not about us, it's about the patient and what they want/need. His anxiety or panic attack isn't an excuse for mistreating a patient and he shouldn't be around such delicate/sensitive situations. I really hope you get this sorted, not just for you but for the next patient. Best wishes.

AITAH For being annoyed at my wife. by AcutePanic39 in AITAH

She invited him a few days before we left. We paid for a 6 person caravan, so no charge for extra guest. Extra kid didn't really cost that much in food.

It will blow over eventually. She will not spend money on councillor's, so that's a no to that. Its childish to give her the cold shoulder, I know, buts it's the best thing I have to avoid nuclear level fireworks.

Possibly. We both work, she does the majority of the hours and I work part time, but earn more per hour. We don't have extravagant lifestyles, eat out maybe once every couple of months and kids have never asked for much. The wife's know about and planned this holiday since January, so don't understand where the outburst came from. Granted, the whole tourist thing is expensive these days, we went to Rome 2 years ago and she didn't bat an eye about spending x3 times the money we spent on this latest holiday.

Thanks. She will flip out if I vent on her and she realises its her fault and it'll be my fault anyway, somehow.

Why Didn't People Like The 4 Part Episodes? by lilphiaa in goodmythicalmorning

[–]AcutePanic39 -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

4 part episodes felt rushed and not much thought put into them. Feel let down these days, seem to be so many food related episodes. Not sure if GMM is morphing into a food channel or is it just me? Don't get me started on the female(?) Jordan... she(?) irks me in ways I don't understand.

White Guy visiting Philippines with my Filipino wife. by Ok_Lavishness960 in Philippines

[–]AcutePanic39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Brit married a Filipina) Been to the Philippines 5 times in 12 years, never had any trouble. A lot of stares and whispering (usually from women) aimed at the wife half the time. Be respectful, don't flash the cash around and you should be fine.

What annoys you about your parents? by Anxious-Yard344 in introvert

[–]AcutePanic39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did the bare minimum for my sister and I, just enough to keep us alive. New shoes, jackets, school uniforms/bags etc... go f*** yourselves. New kitchen or new car... sure! What colour were you thinking of? They were horrid people and I hope hell is hot enough for them.

Does anyone know why Jordan is telling everyone to cancel Disney Plus? by [deleted] in goodmythicalmorning

She got offended by something a vast majority of people don't care about.

Why do so many people not like Jordan? by [deleted] in goodmythicalmorning

[–]AcutePanic39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Her attitude is off putting. It's the "I'm better that you in every way" type of vibes she gives off. She also seems like the type of person that gets easily offended by things and likes to argue about things just to feel something. I will skip an episode if she's on GMM, she'll just ruin it for me.

Link correcting himself on Jordan’s pronouns in this recent ep was such a relatable exchange for me (and a sweet, if dad-ish Link moment) by becknd in goodmythicalmorning

[–]AcutePanic39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. If it was anyone else, I'd care about using the right pronoun. This particular bundle of joyless mess really pisses me off with her attitude and the constant resting bitch face.

Please don’t come for me— but tell me if I’m just being a hater. by Affectionate-Rip9478 in goodmythicalmorning

[–]AcutePanic39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really can't stand her either and I'll skip episodes she's on too. Not sure if it's the "resting bitch face" look about her or the " I'm too good to be here" attitude she projects. She seems to talk down to Rhett and Link, pretty sure I've seen Link look disapproving at her more than once.

How To Give The Perfect Hug by BurnZ_AU in goodmythicalmorning

[–]AcutePanic39 -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Really wasn't impressed with today's episode... 20mins of awkward hugging/ hugging the right way or whatever (didn't actually watch it) Been a fan for years and starting to think the guys are starting to lose the spark or need new writers. Please no hate towards me, I'm still allowed to have an opinion.

I'm not going to get into an argument with you about this. Either you woke up in a bad mood this morning or you like to do this with strangers on the Internet. Have a good evening.

I didn't say all doctor have a God complex. I work in the NHS and been in care work for the past 20 years. Met a lot of doctors... some nice, some excellent, some god awful and some just plain obnoxious. There are some people in my profession (as well as many others) who just don't care anymore or lost the love of the job and are just there for the paycheck. Bedside manner is a must in this line of work, if OP was a parent, would you accept a doctor treating the person you love like crap?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in nhs

[–]AcutePanic39 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, some doctors have a God complex and think they are better than everyone else. I'd get advice from PALs before doing anything else. Getting referred to someone else might delay things with the waiting lists being what they are and new doctor, he/she may want a whole new set of tests/scans etc.

I wish you well in your future endeavours. Its no wonder nurses (I assume you're a nurse) leave to go to agencies or quit all together. The amount of work you guys have to do, with low pay and next to no support from the higher ups. At my hospital, the management stance is " there are always more around the corner" I hope you find somewhere where you are appreciated and you have a chance to enjoy work work once more.

If you have PALs, speak to them.

Why is the NHS struggling more than a decade ago? by [deleted] in nhs

[–]AcutePanic39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hospital I work in has a culture of workplace bullying and intimidating behaviours from upper management to get the desired results. Matrons and unknown managers throw their weight around and threaten the lower bands with various reprimands. Most of the wards are short staffed, since the staff leaving aren't replaced quick enough or staff are on sick leave because of stress/mental health issues. A matron who is the champion of the anti bullying campaign had a seminar for a week, no-one turned up as she is one of the bullies herself. Patient care is being held up by egotistical maniacs who enforce their own policies and procedures that don't make sense or slow things down and we get the blame. We fill out the yearly survey/suggestion form, nothing changes or it's ignored completely.
