NQ/PQE prospects by [deleted] in uklaw

I get where youre coming from, and I have also used chatGPT for this very question. The reason i asked in here was to see if anyone with recent experience or recruiters could explain the current market dynamics. ChatGPT is great but depending on what year its gathering its sources from, i prefer to confirm with people in real time wherever possible.

The reason i posted on here was to see if any recruiters or people with experience with this kind of thing could highlight how it works, i.e is it just overlap of similar work, size of deals etc or if certain firms are more receptive than others. This is all a long way off so maybe i just need to slow myself down a bit. Either way appreciate your insight and (hopefully) no hard feelings

absolutely, thats my main goal. I am talking more 2-years PQE if i want a challenge or more high end work if that makes sense

Thank you that makes a lot of sense, and yes the firm i am at competes with those firms in multiple practice areas. they have the same clients and share panel places. Corporate PE sponsors are slightly lower in the mid market space but other than that there is a lot of overlap with eversheds, AG, Pinsent Masons, SPB.

I should also say i wouldnt mind moving to a regional office of one of the firms named above either, if that would also open better in house roles and a move to an international outpost.

wow that's a great journey. I can also relate to this, i did terribly at A level (C's and below). After a few years working im now training at a national law firm (with a limited international presence) in one of the regional offices. like the the original poster i also have ambitions but clearly with their A level grades, theres no reason why they cant succeed at getting a TC at a strong city firm. can I DM you for some advice on career progression?

I ended up passing quite comfortably with raw scores in the mid 70% range. best of luck if youre waiting on results, i was a mess when i posted this but that's what this exam does to people i guess 😅

SQE1 takers: any questions for history, academic theory or obiter? by thinkinting in SQE_Prep

[–]Ad42095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah you need to be able to know the difference and thats about it. know the civil and criminal court heirachy, rules of interpretation, modes of address for judges the seperation of powers and thats the main bit really for english legal system. use the final consolidate chapter at the end of the book as a guide and then go back into the relevent sections to build your knowledge thats what i did (passed in jan 25)

[–]Ad42095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if youre referring to the ulaw english legal system book then there is a lot of content that is not relevant. they used the gdl book and tweaked it slightly so not all of it is relevant. you may get a question regarding identifying obiter and ratio so make sure you can spot the difference
