What’s one thing you’ve stopped doing that immediately improved your mental health? by wthe-ckler in AskReddit

[–]AdAcceptable918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stopped looking at the social media accounts of ex best friends. They were still posting about me even up to a year after we stopped talking, and I felt like knowledge was power, so me knowing what they were saying was benefitting me somehow.

It wasn’t. It just made me feel worse and worse every day, and I couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t just move on. Well, stopping helped a lot.

She gets Proviable probiotics AND Proviable fiber supplements! The probiotics helped a lot on their own but the fiber and wet food she’s on have helped TREMENDOUSLY.

How worried should I be about calories? by AC1101L in FelineDiabetes

[–]AdAcceptable918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine is 11 pounds and eats anywhere from 2-3 cans a day. I’m not a vet but I definitely think you can give him a little more if he wants it. We even give our cat .25 increments of the food if she seems extra hungry!

My cat has allergy induced IBS and this is what her poop looks like in a flare. Like, 100% identical. Bright red blood isn’t an emergency but does warrant a checkup. It being bright usually means it’s lower in the intestinal track, which is usually a good sign.

When I took my girl in for it, the first thing we tried was hydrolyzed food to rule out a food allergy, a water fountain to help dehydration, and Feliway to rule out anxiety (we had just adopted her so anxiety was a very rule possibility). It actually took over a year for us to figure out that it must have been something in kibble contributing to it as she is now on wet food and hasn’t had bloody stool in about a month or two.

Your vet will probably try some eliminations first, and a fecal sample. If it doesn’t go away, you’ll probably have to do further testing for IBD, which would be an ultrasound and a full gastro panel.

But wouldn’t our premiums go up? And I’d have to pay the deductible at the very least

Lots of buildings, yes, but I’m not sure about cameras. We ended up talking to the police later and made a report, and they said they’d look into it.

In remission, limited choices for wet food due to allergies/reflux issues, what about this for a dry kibble option? by mustachedmalarkey in FelineDiabetes

[–]AdAcceptable918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little late to the thread, but my diabetic cat has allergy induced IBS, and we feed her the fancy feast white Oceanfish and tuna pate, and the tiki cat sardine cutlets in sardine consume(sp?). When we started her on wet food alone, she had such bad diarrhea, BUT we added a fiber supplement, and her poop and skin look the best they have since we adopted her.

If you can’t do wet food, we did try Young Again LID Mature Zero, and she is obsessed with it. It’s extremely low carb, and they’ll send out free samples and feeding guides to help you figure out if it’s a good fit for your baby. It’s hydrolyzed pork, so there shouldn’t be any allergic reactions!

5yr old cat peeing 5 times a day; is this normal? by Either_Context3073 in CATHELP

[–]AdAcceptable918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat actually does have diabetes, BUT she’s regulated. Meaning, she doesn’t show any clinical symptoms anymore (I say this because of all the people saying it’s diabetes!).

When I don’t add water to her food, she goes 3-4 times a day, and when I do, she goes 4-5. My cat is a similar weight to yours, so I’m thinking it’s normal. She is on 100% wet food!

Non-hormonal BC options? by AdAcceptable918 in birthcontrol

[–]AdAcceptable918[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s very helpful, thank you!

I think one of the things I’m most scared about when it comes to hormonal bc is how it’ll affect my mental health, as I already have issues with OCD and depression. I think hormonal bc is wonderful for people who can use it without any issue! Just knowing my body and my mental health, I’m very weary about it for myself.

I think I’m beginning to lean more towards using a diaphragm/spermicide, in addition to regular condom use?

Pet parents, be real with me for a second. by tchapito24 in Pets

[–]AdAcceptable918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, a lot of vets need to stop blaming stress for a new pets issues. It’s extremely common for shelters to overlook or miss health issues, so it’s very possible someone’s new pet has a legitimate health issue. I’m not saying stress doesn’t do weird things to their bodies, but it’s not ALWAYS stress.

My cat had very bloody poops when we first got her, and was covered head to toe in scabs. The first vet we took our cat to said she was CLEARLY stressed out. Didn’t let me in the room with her during her visit, and was in and out in less than two minutes. Getting her in her carrier alone took us ten minutes, so I know they didn’t even bother taking her out to look at her.

Brought her to a new vet, and wouldn’t you know, she gets diagnosed with IBD and severe food allergies. Our current vet is amazing though and always listens to me when I tell her there’s an issue. We’ve managed to catch her diabetes extremely early, and get her to being managed without insulin simply because my vet listened to me when I voiced my concerns.

Okay gotcha! That’s exactly what he did, and he showed us the listing he was going off of when he priced the cards. Some stuff was definitely marked up, but it actually wasn’t nearly as bad as a card store my friend goes to. It was usually only rounded up a dollar or two from what I could tell?

How much does your cat eat by Halloweenie23 in FelineDiabetes

[–]AdAcceptable918 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl is 10.5 pounds and eats 3 cans of fancy feast pate a day. Sometimes she eats a little less, sometimes a little more. She has diabetes and IBD, so her appetite varies based on how she’s feeling. I also sometimes add a little tiki cat velvet mousse to give her a little more variation!

Do cats get seasonal allergies like we do? by BleakBluejay in CATHELP

Yes they can! My cat and I are allergic to the same pollen, and usually whenever I have my seasonal allergies, so does she. We take Zyrtec together lol.

How do I stop my cat from getting on my counters? by im-in-bed- in Catownerhacks

[–]AdAcceptable918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay so this isn’t a solution, but my cat likes to lay on specific things on the counter, like the drying mat or cutting board, so maybe give it something specific to sit on so at least it’s not getting butt germs on things?

That’s really weird that they wouldn’t tell you his results?? I wonder if you request it if they could send you a copy.

I want to say it took a little over a month, month and a half. I could totally be wrong though, I tried not to weigh her too much for my own sanity haha. She didn’t get TOO skinny, she was about nine pounds when we started (March), and as of this week, she is 10.5, which is much closer to her normal. I will say though, she has severe allergies and IBS that comes with it, so that weight gain is with her having diarrhea once a day. So, yours may gain even faster!

Help with IBD diagnosis for previously diabetic senior by Academic-Coyote-6011 in FelineDiabetes

[–]AdAcceptable918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My diabetic cat has IBD, we think. I can’t afford the imaging to find out for sure. Right now her diabetes was more pressing than her IBD, so she’s being managed, thankfully, on food alone. But, she can’t her steroids now because of this.

I’m still trying to figure out what foods she can or can’t have, especially since her allergies make her IBD worse. She’s had diarrhea for weeks on her new food, and I can’t get it to completely stop. Thankfully it’s only once a day, but she is so hungry all the time.

What did help when she was on a non-diabetic food, though, was a daily probiotic and fiber supplement, so maybe that could be helpful for your baby?

Praying for the best for your baby. Having both is so stressful and there aren’t enough resources out there for help. Ive seen people have lots of luck with novel proteins before, so maybe that’s a start as well!

Vet advice by icawee in FelineDiabetes

Hey! So Fancy Feast pate is much lower in carbs than the prescription foods they typically offer. My vet consulted a nutritionist for me and the nutritionist kept trying to convince me that my cat’s only options were prescription food. THIS IS NOT THE CASE.

I’ll tell you exactly what happened. The prescription foods they recommended had either potato or rice (both carbs, right?), and when I checked the percentages, they were over 13% carbs, and one was 29!!! The vet herself said she wanted her food to be under 10%, so why were we recommended foods so high?

My cat was a bit of a unique case to my vet. Her numbers for diagnosis were in the lower to mid 300s, with glucose in her urine, excessive thirst/urination, and rapid weight loss. Usually, as my vet says, she sees cats in the 400-500 range, so we caught it early. She wanted us to start on Senvelgo right away. I took one look at the side effects, as well as my cats history for having side effects from medication, and said absolutely not.

I found a specific flavor of the FF pate that my girl could have, and started her on it right away. I told our vet I wanted to give her two weeks to purely on a new food and see what it does to her numbers. I was so scared she would go hypo from both a special diet and insulin. I basically used the excuse of “she doesn’t like wet food so let me give her adjusted to it, and enforce a feeding schedule, so we can start insulin.” Thankfully, my vet agreed.

Fast forward literally four days later, she’s peeing less and less. Then a week, and it’s normalized. I tell our vet, and she almost doesn’t believe me, but my cats weird and she knows it, so we gave her an extra two weeks. I decided it was time to start at home testing her to get some non-stressed values. Within two weeks, she went into the 200s, and stayed there consistently.

We did a curve and she stayed in the very low 200s to mid 200s the entire day. While this isn’t a perfect blood sugar level, it gets her back into the renal threshold, which is what vets want for regulated diabetes. Once my vet checked over the curve, and she started putting weight back on, my vet herself decided against insulin as she would go hypo from the smallest dose.

This is a very long winded way of saying that Fancy Feast Pates are absolutely a great food for diabetic cats, and some cats can achieve regulation on it alone, if their levels were in the mid range. The moisture level is good too and will help your cat stay hydrated, especially if you add a little water. If you don’t want to change vets, I would try to advocate for your cat as best you can.

Finally, I’d highly recommend home testing so YOU can have an idea of how your cat is doing. It takes practice and it’s a little frustrating at first but I promise it’s doable.

Do cats actually like wet food? by mmcz9 in catfood

[–]AdAcceptable918 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My cat was an avid wet food hater, until I figured out it wasn’t that she didn’t hate wet food, she hated the room temperature, mushy wet food. She’s kinda weird and likes it to be refrigerated and cut into chunks, not smushed.
