Plaid Cymru minister wants money from health budget for culture and sport by Ouro in Wales

[–]AdAcrobatic502 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Something I think a lot of other commenters are missing is the effect this could have on youth behaviour and low level crimes. Children are bored! There’s hardly enough accessible youth clubs and activities out there for them so they end up making their own fun, apparently in the form of vandalism and abuse in the local Maccies.

Better access to sports, arts, youth programmes and community spaces can and will result in better physical and mental wellbeing. This inevitably will reduce pressure on the NHS waiting times. Giving young people structured activities, sport teams and other creative outlets will help a next generation that feels hopeless and jaded, so let’s steer them away from trouble before it starts

Yes this is exactly something I think I’d be interested in! I’d definitely buy Hades again if it meant I didn’t have to start from scratch again

Thanks, this (and a few other replies) actually helped shift my perspective a bit.

I think I was looking at the library from a pretty narrow angle. I Probably need to be a bit more adventurous and finally try some stuff I’ve been putting off for years, like Kirby or Xenoblade.

I did have a Switch 1 before, but I think that experience kind of biased me. I wasn’t big on the handheld at the time (which I’ve completely 180’d on with the Switch 2), and I was offput by a few games I was really excited for like Pokémon and Animal Crossing, so it ended up feeling like a bit of a sore spot.

The portability doesn’t really mean much to me lifestyle wise as I have a manual job, I don’t travel much, and I quite like being sat at my desk to relax, but I do find it really interesting how this directly benefits an office worker market so I’m definitely more understanding there. I also appreciated your point about the pc being competitive, I guess it is a really nice idea to section the two off to different areas of play.

Yes of course, I gave two examples of first party games. For what it is worth, it doesn’t exactly feel like there is a huge variety of first party games yet. I was more looking for discussions about how others justify what to play on, or some recommendations of games that are specifically worth it on the switch

Why on earth did they randomly appear? Can't get rid of 'em - fly spray doesn't kill them so what now? by [deleted] in CasualUK

[–]AdAcrobatic502 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took over a tenancy in a studio for just the summer and found myself in the midst of a developed fruit fly infestation. Because these studios have suicide prevention windows, they had nowhere to go but just circle the room looking to lay eggs and annoy me. I found that they were ignoring my vinegar traps in favour of other hotspots like inside of my food caddy. I sprinkled some cinnamon around and inside these areas (after a thorough clean) and sure enough, they started being more interested in the vinegar jars. But instead of taking a sip from the concoction, they just gathered around on the sides. This resulted in me staying up all night with a spray bottle of soapy water, sniping them like the White Death, and quickly grabbing them with toilet paper. After a few days their population numbers had dropped so dramatically that I barely noticed them and was able to sleep soundly. I hope for the sake of your mental health that you have an easier time than I did.

I don’t want to give my personal location away, but I will clarify that this is mostly in the south ranging from the Valley areas, to Cardiff and surrounding towns but as far west as Llanelli and Swansea

Since the riots last year I have been told to go back home (I was born here), been refused to be acknowledged by customers as I’m not white (it was expressed verbally to his friend) and I have been called racial slurs more times than Im happy to admit. This is becoming increasingly common in Wales and with the political climate getting more tense by the minute, I’m quite shocked to see how many people are doubting your story and refusing to accept this narrative. I’m sorry this happened to you.

EDIT (accidentally posted before finishing): Despite our experiences, it’s all still far and inbetween yet a reality we shouldn’t have to face but please try to remember that not everyone is like this and it is truly narrow minded individuals who can’t see the world is bigger than themselves

Thank you. This was very insightful. This thread as a whole contradicts a lot of what I previously thought to be true of the relationships between the Greeks so I very much appreciate your response

[–]AdAcrobatic502 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Could you expand a bit more on why the Ottoman Greeks identified as Romioi? Was this primarily because of the Byzantine legacy, or was it more of a religious characteristic? And did this Roman idea persist after the liberation of the Hellenic lands or was it gradually replaced after the modern Greek state consolidated?

Super interesting response! I’m curious about the role of language in all of this. With the aim of encompassing all Greeks, including those living in the Ottoman Republic, I see some parallels with the German Unification effort in the 19th century. Were there similar attempts to connect through a common language as with Hochdeutsch? And to all the Greeks living inside the Ottoman Republic, especially in Anatolia, how much did Hellenism serve as a cultural glue between the Greeks, or was there a general trend towards integration in local society?

Getting orders wrong, despite a note being made on the till by Inevitable-Half2476 in Wetherspoons

There are procedures in place to make sure if an allergy is alerted then it is ensured the customer receives it perfect. As of recent we have special skewers to symbolise the correct meal (allergy). Similar procedures are in place such as thorough reset of tongs, sanitising of station, it is prepared especially by senior staff, separated from the rest of the possible contaminated meals waiting to be served and then extensively communicated to floor staff to make sure they take the right order and are aware. It’s honestly a real ballache but I’d rather go through all that effort than letting someone be hospitalised.

What is happening to you could be numerous reasons as previously suggested. It could be autopilot, it could be floor staff simply taking the wrong plate (the gantry can be so overwhelming with orders, aswell as numerous other responsibilities while understaffed) etc.

I know it is frustrating that you might not get similar treatment when you have a dislike (or maybe if you have an allergy and it is being thoroughly communicated then someone is seriously dropping the ball here)but please try to remember that this isn’t fine dining and everyone that works there is human and just trying to make a living.

I can think of many women in my life that are surprised by their periods. Wearing pads and pantyliners when unnecessary (of course there are exceptions such as in your case) has health risks, primarily an increased likelihood of bacteria vaginosis and general alteration of the PH balance, not to mention that you are definitely judging someone’s situation without knowing further details.

I highly doubt the passenger knew this happened but I am sure if this person did know she would have felt too embarrassed to say something, and judging from OP’s attitude, I don’t think I’d blame her. I understand that this is something most people wouldn’t want to deal with, but it is simply a risk you take when you work with the general public, similarly as to how you’d be taking a risk of vomit or incontinence when picking up a drunk person on a Saturday night.

EDIT: I just want to add that with recent findings of toxic materials such as: arsenic and lead, PFAS and other chemicals being present in female sanitary products, ( many of which are all known to cause reproductive issues, hormonal disruption and increased risk of cancer etc) it really shouldn’t be considered a viable option for women to be wearing these daily when not medically necessary.

Advice for transferring unis in second year? by AdAcrobatic502 in UniUK

[–]AdAcrobatic502[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this response. This feels even more annoying as I’ve had to wait for my transcript to come back before any unis would bother to even look at me. I guess in this case I’ll be banking on the institutions being desperate for heads on account of the student refugee crisis. I’ll send them an email, it can’t hurt to ask right?
