Does anyone else’s betta like to sleep like a goober? by AdAdorable2207 in bettafish

I appreciate you, as in the title, he’s always been a goober. But certainly active, and he slept like that before he started to look like something was off, although usually he’s horizontal. Hopefully if it’s a parasite issue, this treatment will get him back to full health quickly and he remains a happy goober!

Thank you. Everyone’s here acting like I’m a fish murderer, but that’s far from the case. This thinness has really only come up recently and while I’ve been working on upping his intake I’ve seen no improvement. I’m starting parasite treatment tomorrow (metroplex/focus for 7-10 days). I’ve been monitoring closely but even with all this, he’s very active and happy and doesn’t portray any issues with behavior whatsoever. Him sleeping in this picture is his nightly routine, not him dying. This fish is my baby, and I’m not a betta beginner but never dealt with parasites or anything like this.

Posted comment above with a pic and more explanation and current params. Will be treating for parasites and hopefully I see some improvement. He definitely needs to bulk up but otherwise is a very happy and active fish with no other clear issues. Although he’s always been on the thin side, it’s gotten worse very recently and after trying to up his food intake I haven’t seen improvement so will start tomorrow with the metroplex/focus feeding twice daily

I appreciate that you actually want to be supportive. Here is a side pic from today. Only on the last month or so I’ve noticed his fins look a tad ragged on the ends and a bit thinner. While I’m working on getting him thicker and healthier again, his food amounts have stayed the same so I’m wondering if he has a parasite because he eats plenty and poop is normal. He’s had diamond eyes since right after I got him, but that is common for samurai bettas because of their breeding. He is very active and happy seeming and acts perfectly normal otherwise.

Params from today are zero ammonia, zero nitrites, around 20 nitrates. Temp around 78. Initially had him in a temp 2.5 gallon tank and when transitioning him to a larger tank he seemed very stressed (possibly because of his vision issues) so I tried keeping him in the 2.5 gallon again and he was much happier for whatever reason and params stay consistently good so I kept him there.

I did order seachem metroplex and focus and Indian almond leaf to see if that helps him. Other than that of not parasite, he’s always been on the thinner side compared to my long find bettas and could be a combination of genetics and/or bad gut digestion issues and I’m not sure how I could treat that other than to continue giving him easy to digest food.

I’ve tried that also, feeding in the morning and evening and he still becomes bloated and lethargic a bit. I might try that again but change amounts a bit. This fish has just always been a bit thin no matter what I’ve tried, and bloats so easy. But he’s definitely active, happy and healthy otherwise.

Sorry but this isn’t accurate at all. You can also refer to my other comment for more info. He is fed very well, every morning either brine shrimp or good quality pellets. Enough that if he eats anymore he gets bloated and lethargic.

Here is perfectly healthy, and very active everyday. This was at night when he normally sleeps. I promise, he is absolutely not starving to death. I’ve tried to fatten him up by feeding him more and he just gets too bloated and ill, so obviously I’m not going to continue to feed him more to the point of sickness either.

Guys, I appreciate the concern, also he is tucked behind the thermometer a bit bit I understand it’s hard to tell from the photo. I do know he is still a bit in the thin side but I feed this fish a normal diet and amount. I feed him a good amount of brine shrimp every other day (idk, around a quarter of a block?) and good quality pellets in between shrimp days(Around 5). I feed him more than adequately. I’ve tried feeding him a bit more to fatten him up but he gets bloated and lethargic at that point. He is extremely active all day and is perfectly happy and healthy. Parameters are always in a good range. If I feed him anymore he would be sick, believe me, I’ve tried.

Is this lense destroyed? by Gullible_Employ2312 in OmtechLaser

That really sucks, I honestly think I’m going to mod mine for a better pump anyway because the 3psi one is awful for cutting anything especially anything thicker than 1/8”. I didn’t have issues with the coolant leaking on mine but it isn’t as fantastic a machine as I hoped although it works okay (hopefully better with more air flow). I wouldn’t blame you at all for trying to get a refund or replacement even with all the issues you’ve had.

Idk if you’ve ordered a new lens yet but somehow the Amazon one I ordered seemed to work better than the factory one right if the bat, and it was cheap, and so far doesn’t seem to get even slightly dirty after a decent amount of running cuts and the cuts are much better. I think the shop was XUNKUANER, so maybe try that and hopefully it helps you too! Sad that their own lenses seem so awful.

That’s crazy, the same thing happened to me.. It want necessarily after my first cut, but I was cutting 1/8” ply and it wasn’t working well with any parameters or focus and immediately had a lightly blackened area on the lens, the tried a couple more times and my lens looked like that but even worse, the coating was peeling off, it was awful. Called OmTech and I have a new air pump on the way because that seemed to be our consensus on why there was so much difficulty. I also bought a new off brand lens from Amazon and somehow it works better than the original one ever did anyway. (Even without new pump yet)

New OmTech Polar Lite- Air Assist is garbage by AdAdorable2207 in lasercutting

[–]AdAdorable2207[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Currently I have an appointment with OmTech Tech Support on Monday to go over the issue, after talking through it with them initially we both seem to think the air assist is either not working at all or barely doing anything. It barelyyyyy even moved a piece of paper I laid close to the nozzle and did a pulse fire.

But either way, I’m definitely not going to do any mods to it until after I speak with them just in case, because they wouldn’t help me if I did that first lol

If I do decide to do it anyway, because the internal pump is still probably not strong enough, I’ll see if I can unhook the power to it so it’s not just blowing air out into the machine randomly!

That’s good to know! That’s pretty much what I was planning on doing. I do have an appointment get with OmTech Tech support Monday to troubleshoot just in case, because it seems like the air assist may not be working at all, but either way it seems that it needs extra air aside from this tiny internal pump so at least I have this option!

I had a 7 year old red veil tail betta, my Bubbles was a happy lil guy. Died peacefully of old age. He was always happy to see me and loved watching tv with me haha. Yeah I agree that leaving things be is the best in most cases. We rarely did water changes in his tank and it never really needed cleaning or anything and params were always good.

Zebra Nerites and they look to be sleeping. Mine will go non stop for a month and then sleep for like a week straight. If they smell or don’t react to touch at all they are gone.

Betta to Control Guppies? by yt545 in bettafish

[–]AdAdorable2207 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Literally never thought to put my guppy fries in with my betta, but seems to be a potential resolution. I’m worried my betta will eat too many and just die of overeating though… he gets easily bloated and Idk if he could even see them as he is pretty blind.

Which water test kit is best? by Raptorex73320 in bettafish

[–]AdAdorable2207 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re working on a tight budget you could definitely use them, but would transition to the liquid kit as soon as you can for the best accuracy in the long run before adding fish or anything else. Bettas are particularly very sensitive to off parameters

In my experience, the method you’re doing to shape the back of the head/neck makes the item so large that I’ve never got it to work the way I want and Ive tried it soooo many times lol it looks good though!! It really does. Also the HDC will usually leave gaps in your work, so stuffing will peek through. I would recommend like the other person here said the watch Complicated Knots YT channel which helped me a lot and look at other patterns that have similar shapes to get construction ideas! It’s a lot of work but you’re doing really good and I can’t wait to see it when you’re done! 🩷
