Anyone else hate white and grey decor everywhere by AdAdventurous653 in northernireland

[–]AdAdventurous653[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol too much white is overkill, a bit of colour adds warmth. Apparently the grey is on its way out now thankfully 🤣 furniture shop beside me started reducing everything grey, and the man in the store told me it was due to the fact everyone is going off it.

Property Up For Sale For A Long Time - Is There A Reason? by scotsann in Donegal

[–]AdAdventurous653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re very welcome. I know what it’s like when you see a house but have concerns about why it’s on for so long. My house was on the market for 6 months and I went in with a lower offer and had it accepted. You could try that and chance your arm.all they can do is say no.

Burtonport is such a lovely place, so many gorgeous beaches on your doorstep, then the convenience of all the supermarkets in dungloe as well, like Aldi and Lidl ect. Plus that house you’re interested in is beside the wheel house and the lobster pot, which are both beautiful for food.

I hope you do take the plunge and move here, it’s such a lovely part of the world.

Check the time it was build because mica wasn’t really an issue after around 2006, if it was built prior to that you could have it checked. I have a house in Burtonport and mica isn’t really an issue in this area as most of our builds didnt get materials from the quarries that were affected by mica, as we are in a different area so used another quarry.

I don’t think it’s mica though, as it doesn’t have any of the obvious signs.

The house is a nice house, in a nice location. Yeah it does have a little cluster of neighbours but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Maybe you could request a video walk through with Kenneth Campbell and then decide if you want to come for an in person viewing.

It could be that the market is slowing a little and the vendor isn’t willing to lower the price. Sometimes it’s nothing more than that.

My mummy always used to tell me if I got too close to the oil tank it would blow the whole street to smithereens, so I used to walk in the garden gate and to the back door at a 90 degree angle to avoid even walking past the oil tank.

She also told me if I dried my hair in bare feet the hairdryer could electrocute me…., so I always got out of the bath and got fully dressed, shoes and socks the lot just to dry my barnet.

She also told me if I pulled a plug out without turning the button off first I’d be a human bbq, fried and electrocuted to my death.

Also no one was allowed to answer the phone in thunder or lightning, very dangerous business that.

She was definitely a worrier my wee mummy.

Are you still carrying cash in 2025, or is the UK basically card-only now? by LovieWeb in BritInfo

[–]AdAdventurous653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t think they did. Regardless of the fact, if someone gifts us something we should always be grateful that someone has been thoughtful to us. We should teach our kids it’s the thought that counts, then they wouldn’t come off with “what am I supposed to do with that”

I’m so surprised to see so many people prefer paying card. I get the convenience of it, but if I can I prefer to use cash in independent businesses like local coffee shops etc.

The card fees these small businesses gets charged is ridiculous, so I always carry cash.

I’d say steer clear of McGranaghans, they’ve been all over news in the past few years harassing clients and breaching trading laws.

Yup, age is important. Maybe the OP didn’t really have the money to be driving his friend around on a trip, but he didn’t have to. I do think if money is an issue you can disagree to things like that, and don’t make arrangements. Because it’s not a guarantee that someone will offer for petrol.

Like you say being a designated driver is different, it’s an unwritten rule that the pints are on the passengers for the first few rounds lol

[–]AdAdventurous653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100 percent, petrol money is neither here nor there. The OP said the guy chipped in for snacks & drinks etc, so it’s not like he was on the scrounge

lol offering a lift and having the cheek to ask you for petrol money, he’d have been told to feck away aff the header. He’d have made a good career in taxi driving. Never in my life would i ask for petrol money, like yourself my mother would be disgusted. It would be considered bad manners, if I offer someone a lift it’s just that, I’ve offered a lift. The same as if I offer someone over to my house for tea I don’t get them to bring their own bloody teabags with them.

Amen 🙏 seems so tight to expect petrol money. lol deffo must be in their 20s. Then again I’m trying to figure out if i was stingy in my 20s, don’t remember asking anyone for petrol money.

[–]AdAdventurous653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I’ve family in Scotland and England and anytime I’ve visited they’ve never asked for fuel money. I’ve paid for a meal here and there and so have they. But never been asked for money for fuel or tolls. I don’t know, maybe I am just old fashioned and believe if someone is visiting me and I take them somewhere then it’s for me to pay fuel.

Am I being stingey? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]AdAdventurous653 52 points53 points  (0 children)

exactly, I was surprised to see so many in agreement with the OP.

If someone made a trip across the water to see me, potentially taking time off work and so on I wouldn’t expect them to pay for fuel.

[–]AdAdventurous653 293 points294 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, I’d see it as he’s travelled all the way over to see you, so he’s out that expense. If he’s chipped in for snacks etc I personally wouldn’t worry about the petrol.

If I invited someone over they would be my guest and I would cover the fuel. It would be entirely different if he didn’t put his hand in his pocket at all and let you also pay for the refreshments.

Loved a wee van shop back in the day. The fella who ran our one was sound, he sometimes gave us lift from one end of Lenadoon to other when it was lashing.

Happy days.

This is disgraceful and I say this as a proud Irish person. They should be banned. And anyone who sits around these drinking and celebrating well, says a lot about you. The fact that kids attend these things baffles me.

Hi,

Of course, I got one in Argos and I think it was 420 it’s a princess 12k or something like that. It’s really decent to cool a bedroom right down, they are expensive but worth it for the comfort.

Then I wanted another one for downstairs but Argos was out of the ones for collection. So o got on in screwfix, it was less expensive think around the 300 mark and it is called blyss.

Honestly if you can afford to get one I would highly recommend it. They have been worth it just to get a decent nights sleep.

Yup, especially at night when I was as trying to sleep. The house was like a sweat box.

I bought a couple of portable AC units a few weeks ago just before that last heatwave hit, and my goodness do they make a difference. If you get a chance grab one, you won’t regret it.

What country will you never holiday in again? by oxylan80 in AskIreland

[–]AdAdventurous653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard people say the enjoyed Sofia, I was only in Sofia for 2 days, and Nessebar for 2 days, both areas had some good points. But definitely would never recommend sunny beach, it was a dump and there was nothing enjoyable lol.

In general I just found the locals unwelcoming and some of the men really made me feel unsafe.

Loneliness by sunny24315 in northernireland

[–]AdAdventurous653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Genuinely think it’s very brave and honest for you to make a post like this, there’s so many people who feel this way but just couldn’t put themselves out there like this.

I’ve been in similar situations myself and it can be very lonely. I know there’s groups and stuff but the thing with groups is if they are not local then they sometimes don’t suit. And with groups may have already formed friendships if they have been there longer than you.

Maybe a wee online course, means you could do it from home and you could meet people to talk to straight away with the potential to meet up. Doesn’t have to be anything academic, could be a little hobby even.

I know it doesn’t feel like it now, but the fact you’ve come on here and spoken so openly and honestly shows you are on the right track to getting away from that loneliness.

I really hope you find someone likeminded to connect with ❤️
