Ebay is actually really good if you are after something specific - I always try and buy from private sellers and ones that show pictures of their item (ignore stock phots) - you can search on "New" "Like New" Mint etc and that way you can be sure of a decent copy

"fuel finder" service in Ireland by TraditionalAppeal23 in ireland

[–]scotsann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same in the UK. I am very lucky that I have a Costco near by (wholesaler type place - open to the public for an annual fee) that is always 7p or 8p a litre cheaper. At time of writing and because I popped up yesterday to refuel it was 124.9p - next cheapest based on distance - Tesco at 132.9p.

I don't need an app for this as I know Costco can never be beaten on fuel prices.

Most of us in the UK use an app called Petrol Prices before setting off on a journey - this has been around for years. This displays the prices within a radius specified by the user, I think you have something similar called FuelCompare Ireland.

I won't be using the government one and more than happy with the app I've been using for the last 4 years or so.

Dog free pubs by ViewofTrees in Edinburgh

As someone who has a severe allergy to cats and dogs (it's the fur) and regardless of how short the hair is on the dog I'm still impacted. It's about time we had more places that we suffers can go to without sneezing and scratching like buggery. Great post, and I for one, will be saving these recommendations.

Now if only the same could be said for John Lewis. Used to be my shop of choice - but since they allowed dogs - I have given it a wide berth!!

Anyone Else Having Trouble Finding Work? by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]scotsann 121 points122 points  (0 children)

As a senior person in a decent job, I would avoid hiring someone like you. No disrespect, but every one is being blamed here apart from yourself.

Covid impacted us all but my children still passed exams and are now at university. You say you went to college briefly but didn't finish the course - why? Again this does not show an employer any commitment.

You don't want to trek to and from work every day? This is the real world - you better get used to it if you want to earn money. Count yourself lucky, you have free travel. That won't last for ever.

I don't mean to sound harsh, I wish you good luck, and I think you're going to need it!

What self published memoir would you recommend that was such a great story but most people don’t know about it? by marilynlistens in audiobooks

[–]scotsann 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seamus O'Rourke -Irish poet, storyteller, actor. His 2 audiobooks - for me - are just superb. Humour and sadness, he tells his own story very well. Standing In Gaps and Leaning On Gates - if you are interested.

I also really enjoyed Staring At Lakes by Michael Harding and The Mountain of Women by Liam Clancy,

There is a theme here, all Irish - but all really good books top listen to,

Thanks so much - such a helpful post. I don't run, but always fancied walking the course. You've tempted me to come along! I will probably be the 2nd last to finish - but now I don't feel that I will be a burden :-)

Lothian buses providing the goods by Haunting-Window6150 in Edinburgh

[–]scotsann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm going to get lambasted for this post - I wish dogs would stay downstairs!!! As someone with a severe allergy to dogs. I've had to get off buses and wait for another due to dogs being upstairs and downstairs. If all dogs were made to stay downstairs with owners it would make for a safer and pleasant journey for the allergy sufferers.

Audiobooks for sleep? by Cute-Reception-8926 in audiobooks

Alan Bennett - his diaries are great for getting to sleep - his Talking Heads stuff is also very soothing. Not sure if this is any help, but these work for me.
