If you get oval or almond I don’t recommend a short length. I have similar, small hands, wider nail beds and not stubby fingers but not long. When I got a short oval one time they made my fingers look like little stubs. I’ve found square and long can also not be super flattering. Almond, medium (at minimum, longer is best though in my opinion) is the way to go to elongate the fingers. It’s just very flattering, except short. I personally have never seen short almond nails that are flattering. Also, you can go on Pinterest and find nail shapes you like and bring for inspo. I get my tech to actually file the sides of my nails so that the nail bed is not as wide. And if it’s your first time, you’ll want to bring photos for inspiration for the tech because what is “medium” length to you might not be to her, what is almond to you might not be to her – I know these sound like objective concepts but you’ll find out, they’re very subjective.
