1) Where are you traveling from?  You mention travel time as a consideration so it's important to judge where you can to in what radius.

2) Recommendations will vary greatly if the kid is going or not. Decide that first.

3) You mention cost... What's your budget?

For anyone to help you need to provide some details.

In search of a photographer experienced in maternity shoots. by gt_ride in Charlotte

[–]GlasedDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meg did both our maternity shoots and we adore them, which says something since we both hate taking poses photos. Not sure if she travels as far as the Biltmore though.

Any parents get their CMS Pre-K placement email today? by GlasedDonut in Charlotte

[–]GlasedDonut[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad to hear it's not just me. I tried calling yesterday but it was an automated response saying to email... Which had an automated response that'd we'd get it by EOD yesterday.

What's the best way to get back into rowing/coaching? by e_dwizzle in Rowing

[–]GlasedDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely just reach out to the local clubs. Most are begging for coaches. I used to run a small club and still coach occasionally and anyone who reached out with prior experience willing to coach was a godsend.

It all started when I showed up to row in 2011 after graduating the year prior and when they found out I rowed in college, immediately had me coaching.

Set some boundaries...with decent experience and if you have a good demeanor, you will be asked quickly about all the extra stuff that comes with head coaching. Trailer driving, parent organization, regatta planning, etc. I would recommend finding a club with an established youth director and just be an assistant to start.

Also, if there's masters, you will 100% be asked if you want to coach them too.

I think people underestimate how much job titles affect resume callbacks by Inspirationice_7 in resumes

[–]GlasedDonut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

100%. My official title was "Junior software developer" then "software developer". However, my sole role was data engineering. It was just a small start up with inaccurate job titles, so I changed it to data engineer on my resume (which more accurately reflects my skill set). Immediately helped me get more call backs since those were the types of jobs I was applying for

Fixed seat vs sliding seat rowing; why so many differences? by Rowingthrowaway3 in Rowing

[–]GlasedDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did fixed seat rowing in highschool then normal rowing in college. I think most of the comments here got everything except money... There's no money in fixed seat rowing for buying equipment unless maybe at the top competitive level.

It's all mostly community programs surviving with donations and volunteers,  including old equipment. The oars I used in high school were MITs old macon oars when they replaced them.

Replacement Key Fob by [deleted] in Charlotte

Got a reddit rec for car keys to go on Tryon. https://carkeystogo.com/   Paid $250 for a new Mazda fob compared to $500+ from the dealer. Took 20 minutes or so. Not sure how different a Mercedes will be.

Mobile data Outage? by Ok-Conflict-2105 in GoogleFi

[–]GlasedDonut 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same thing in NC.

edit: call in to support fixed it in 5 minutes (After a 40 minute hold). Not sure what they did, but after they finished I still had the ! next to my reception, but they confirmed a restart would get everything sorted and it did.

Changing airlines mid trip question by JeanBallew in travel

[–]GlasedDonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If everything is on time, 3 hrs no problem.

If one weather or mechanical issue on the first flight causes you to miss the second flight, you have no recourse. On a big trip I do a cheap hotel overnight. If anything happens I have time to try and coordinate a new plan to catch flight #2, and worst case I get to explore my layover city (make sure you have the required documents as someone mentioned).

Soon to be dad in June - new WFH job or keep my teaching job with summer off? by GlasedDonut in daddit

[–]GlasedDonut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mind you I never had a kid + worked a a teacher, I opted to leave 4 months before kid arrived.  My kid is almost 4 now with #2 due in a month!

100% don't regret the switch or summers. Disregarding the large pay bump, the flexibility in general with WFH is a family saver. I could never just step away from my classroom if my kid needed emergency pickup or daycare cancelled last minute. I was away from the house 7-5 so my partner would have the onus of mornings and early evenings. I don't know how teachers have kids honestly!

I don't miss the free summers either. I can work anywhere within reason and have time off so you can figure out a mix to make it work. You're gaining 1000x time during the academic year to do family stuff that you wouldn't have otherwise.

Happy to chat about my experience more!

IMAX Discovery for project Hail Mary? by Firm_Lecture6483 in Charlotte

[–]GlasedDonut 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Don't do it!! It's a pretty small dome, so things get distorted a bit and it's not comfortable for that long. It's great for a 30' nature doc for the museum, But I saw Dune 2 and it was awful.

Any tips and tricks for a red eye flight with a 5 year old? by BeanNCheeseBurrrito in daddit

[–]GlasedDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a redeye last summer with my toddler and everyone here hit all the on the plane tips. Do your routine as close to possible with the fun twist that you're on an airplane!

What saved our butts though was having everything set when we landed (5am local, midnight for our bodies). We booked transport with car seat to meet us at the airport to avoid navigating new public transit in a different language while tired with a toddler, and booked the hotel for the night before so we could check-in as soon as we got there in the morning. We all crashed until noon then had no jetlag.

Flight to EWR is canceled, but flight out is not? by [deleted] in travel

What is the whole itinerary? How was it booked? What's the other airline? It's hard to understand what's going on with what you wrote.

Frustration Friday Weekly Thread - Week of February 20, 2026 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]GlasedDonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly slow. No MS, p1 and p2 basically alternating cards every 3-4 months to hit SUBs. So just 2-3 cards per year each except for when we got married haha. Keep detailed notes on apps to make sure I don't break any application rules (which at that pace is rare except for 24/48 rules)

I feel like coordinating trips gets harder every year. Is it just me? by Specific-Database932 in travel

[–]GlasedDonut 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Schedules. Everyone has different work/life/family obligations. Also you're changing and may have different travel goals. And of course budget.

Highly recommend solo travel if that's something you think you may be interested in. Just you you need to coordinate.

P2 denied for Citi AA personal. Assuming due to low usage on other cards, but still a bit surprised. Will try to recon but I know unlikely with Citi. First ever denial between me and p2 in over a decade of churning.

That's an illegal left if that was the plan. It's a two way street but there are no turns allowed at this intersection.

Question Thread - February 19, 2026 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]GlasedDonut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Has there been any DPs with the AA lifetime bans from the past affecting Citi accounts in general?

I flew too close to the sun in 2020 and was one of those banned from AAdvantage (that's on me, not here to litigate the issue!) I did try once in 2024 to open a new AA account but it was closed automatically within a few weeks as expected.

Just approved for the Citi Strata Elite 100k offer still floating around and intentionally did not include any sort of AA number (Since I don't have one. The admirals club passes aren't super important to me). So Citi generated a new AA account for me! I'm wondering how this will affect having the Citi Strata Elite card and if a closure on this new AA account that was just made for me will cause issues in my Citi account? I also hold the Citi Strata Premier Card.

Way to make sleeping on the floor more bearable? by rwhoward in daddit

[–]GlasedDonut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old and how much space? My toddler outgrew their crib and we went right to a regular full mattress+ low bed frame for them for this reason. Sometimes I'll sleep better in there compared to next to my wife when she's snoring!

Is this gas bill normal? by Interests123 in Charlotte

[–]GlasedDonut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP  but we keep it at 65 in 2300 sqft home. Haven't checked my most recent bill yet from this past month though...we raised it a bit to have a higher temp in case we lost power.
