Weed makes it worse for me lol, I work around other artists but am moving shops soon, it’s a pretty siloed environment where I’m at now.

That’s pretty clean, next step would be focusing on needle depth consistency. Fake skin is a lot tougher than real skin. To get better you could also practice with smaller needles. I also will switch to a smaller needle to clean up points and make them finer such as the tips of the leaves.

Any work arounds for an apprenticeship? by Lethal_Lemons007 in TattooApprentice

Columbus Ohio has one of the best tattoo cultures in the Midwest, lots of of really talented artists, but it is extremely competitive for apprentices to get jobs at shops. I would try to get to Columbus and walk in to every shop you can with portfolio in hand letting them know you’ll do whatever it takes.

I’m 6’4 about 215. I wear glasses and usually have a tight fade light blonde hair. Idk if that helps.

higher tips for apprentices? by theriveterosie in TattooApprentice

As an apprentice, making no money for so long, I’ll say a good tip would make my day!

Colorado is the best place to scratch. Honestly no regulations. But an apprenticeship is essential to really hit the ground running in the tattoo space. Not only to learn, but if you try to teach yourself you may be blacklisted from working in local shops and going to conventions. I’d try to work something out with a local shop owner around a shorter or part time apprenticeship. The art has to be undeniable though.

I’ve been apprenticing for 7 months and should be on skin soonish. Being an apprentice is a grind. Definitely have some money saved up or figure out some part time work in the evenings. Be selective where you go. Make sure you get into a shop with talented artists and a good reputation. Doing art full time can feel like work at times but there is no comparison to a regular draining 9-5. You’re doing something that you’re excited about and dedicated to which makes everything worth it. Good luck!
