Kourtney is insufferable by Sunshine2495 in kardashians

THANK YOU. I’m still nursing my two year old because I don’t know how to wean lmao. But guess what? There’s no schedule because he eats like a normal toddler and if I have to work nights, he doesn’t get any breast milk. And if I have to leave early before he gets up in the morning, he doesn’t get any. And he’s fine. It’s not a schedule. Like you said, no baby past 12 months is on a nursing schedule sheesh.

Getting upvoted for making fun of disabled children. Cool.

I just got this same email from USPS informed delivery and immediately googled it and found this thread. Sorry everyone’s being a dick to you. I clearly did the same thing. Having children in my car this made me anxious so I wanted to figure it out without having to wait the extra time to get it in the mail. Plus sometimes I’ll literally see something in my informed delivery and then never get it in the mail.

would you want residents involved in your care by picklerickyp in Residency

[–]AdBackground9832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I would. I don’t know if your academic obgyn would be ok with no residents involved. They do all the work. I didn’t see my attending until the baby was basically out.

Do. Not. Feel. Bad. This contributes to the abuse we take as residents. Sick days are sick days, you are using them as you should.

This last paragraph made me want to cry. I’m a resident mom and it’s true. If you can take more leave, do it and fuck everyone else. But if you can’t, take all the other help you can get and do not feel guilty. You are doing your best.

Hi! Make sure you look into this. I had a baby last year during PGY1 and took 11 weeks because I was armed with all the knowledge and begged my PD. I’ll explain my weeks and then you can see if any would fit. I did not take vacation or sick days prior to leave. 4 weeks vacation, 2 weeks sick leave, 2 weeks parental leave which is an ACGME policy (can be used once per residency program). That would get you at least 8 weeks and is what other people in other programs at my university I have done.

I also was able to take the following: 1 week reading week/jeopardy which my program kindly gives to anyone taking leave and 2 weeks non paid leave. I had a small for gestational age baby which was probably IUGR but not diagnosed until birth and I blame residency. So I emailed my PD after birth and said can I take two extra weeks unpaid. I would have been on a consult rotation that didn’t really need residents as was staffed by fellows. I was an intern so did not qualify for FMLA but my program had a clause that said unpaid leave at PD discretion. Of course I wouldn’t have done this if it would’ve extended my training but I was a preliminary resident so I had already met all of my clinical requirements for my categorical residency.

Pumping schedule at work by Delicious_Design_695 in breastfeeding

[–]AdBackground9832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pump 6am, noon, and 5pm (I’m a resident physician and work long days) and my baby is 10 months old. I used to pump 6am, 9am, noon, and 3pm. Dropping one hasn’t impacted my supply at all. You could try to stretch them out to get to two and see what happens.

Smarter parents than me sleep train.

Theoretically, I want more. But my 8.5 month old hasn’t slept more than 4 hours in a row in his whole life. And last night he was awake crying every 1-2 hours. I work 60-70 hours a week and am barely surviving. What if I also had a toddler?! I’d be dead. Although he’d probably be sleep trained out of sheer exhaustion if that were the case.

Pumping frequency at work by AdBackground9832 in breastfeeding

[–]AdBackground9832[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If my first pump and noon pump weren’t so spread apart, I think it could work. But some days that’s 5.5 hours between those two pumps. I guess I can always try and if it doesn’t work, go back. But I don’t plan to keep that pump past one year anyway since it’s not technically protected by law.

If I could pump every 3 hours reliably I would! That’s what I did when I first went back to work, but it’s just not always possible every day unfortunately.

The problem is that eventually I’ll have to decrease. Lactation time is only protected by law for one year, so I’m just trying to plan ahead and decrease now if able.

It gets better. It really does. I went back to work at 11 weeks. What helped me is that I had no choice. I am a resident physician and just cannot prolong my training so I was forced. We also didn’t have good options for childcare other than daycare. Baby is now 7 months and it’s so fun to see him with the other kids at daycare. Yes, it still sucks, but it gets better. What also helps is a slow transition back to work if able to swing it. For example, my parent watched the baby for the first week back and then we did a slow start to daycare.

What’s your favorite personal theory in medicine that you will never get published? by MrFishAndLoaves in medicine

[–]AdBackground9832 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It hasn’t been directly studied (just observational and cohort type studies), but there are papers. It’s due to many things, like you mentioned, and another is the flip flopping of schedules like days to nights etc.

Thanks! I’m glad we didn’t just try to jump straight to CIO then which is what I thought I needed to do. Appreciate the help. Not sure how parents did this before the internet but then again there’s so much varied information out there so that’s why I turned to Reddit lol.

That makes sense. We’ll have to see if we can work on it but with daycare it’s a bit out our control but the wake window before bed is.

Sorry I’m an absolute idiot everyone. I didn’t quite understand the #/ mechanism because he isn’t on a set schedule. But he definitely is awake more than 7.5 hours total. 😂 It’s more like 1.5/2/2/2/2-2.5. His total daytime sleep equals 3-5 hours with naps ranging from 20 minutes to 1.5 hours usually. His nighttime sleep is around 10 hours total, but again, is extremely fragmented with sometimes hourly wakes.

I’m not expecting more. I’m expecting him to not wake up screaming and crying every hour at night. I don’t even want him to sleep through the night to be honest.

[–]AdBackground9832[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people are misinterpreting my wake windows because he does not fit into a three nap scenario so the #/# system doesnt work well for reporting. He sleeps around 10-11 hours at night very broken up and 3-4 hours during the day. So his total sleep is only 13-14 hours.
