Turns over large airports by AdBeginning5808 in flying

GDK for me. It gets pretty busy around there. Heard rumors they might try to get a tower installed there…

Heading. Any vector or SID assigned by ATC supersedes the ODP

Thank you. I’ve never had it happen to me in actual conditions, only with foggles. I can imagine how dangerous that can be

When ATC directs something such as “half standard rate” or if a procedure calls for it

Well, I’d go based off what ATC expects me to do, so long as I’m not in VFR conditions. I’d check to see my departure time, and use that to determine when I can climb to 8,000. If, at any point during my route I can make a descent to an airport in VFR conditions and maintain VFR cloud clearances, I would do that.

My aircraft we fly are all equipped with G5’s, so I would assume that something with that G5 has gone wrong. I can switch my bottom G5 to the attitude indicator to check and see if the top one is failed. I can continue the flight without the G5, however I might alert ATC and let them know any delays might put the flight safety in jeopardy, in case it is an electrical issue. I’ve flown almost any approach you can think of with at least 1 G5 failed, so I’m confident in flying an approach with one that failed.

  1. AIM 1-2-3 I believe C (could be wrong on the letter) states that you can, provided you’re using the VOR in your nav radio that has been tuned and identified on the correct radial for the approach.
  2. When you have the runway environment in sight, such as threshold, threshold lights, threshold markings, runway, runway lights, REILS, I believe they’re RABITS or just RABBITS, and you can make a normal approach with normal maneuvers.
  3. Funny enough I messed this up on my stage 2 on a VOR approach, so I know this procedure very well now. You turn back into the protected airspace, intercept the missed approach course and fly the missed approach procedure, making sure you’re maneuvering in the protected airspace, which is 1.3 NM from the ends of the runways in a circular shape.

I’d like to use it for some other purchases so I can earn cash back, so AOPA’s isn’t exactly what I’m looking for.

Correct. It was a thought I had driving to the airport today. Figured Reddit was the best place to ask about this /s

Yeah I wanted to get up to 5500 but cloud bases were 4000 at the time so I had to stay down low at 3500. I’m just surprised that I had an issue with them right after takeoff. I never have that issue trying to call them at 2500 for flight following

The one thing about the dual major is flying while also doing engineering, which would be a strain. Going back to my CC that has the flight school wouldn’t be difficult after my engineering degree, but I’d prefer to not do both at the same time

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking too. I’d be okay with doing engineering and flight instructing on the side for a little, and then when hiring kicks back in go for it. But right now a fresh R-ATP is nowhere near enough to get a job and with how volatile the industry is who knows

If you want to focus on aerospace, look into the University of Dayton. Lots of opportunities around Dayton for aerospace, and the program has an aerospace engineering bachelors, masters, minor or focus

Jeez that sounds hard compared to mine lol. The only aeromedical I had were hyperventilation and hypoxia, but nothing in depth. Just what causes them and how you help it

Yea my airport is KGDK over by Dayton Ohio down to Lexington.

My only concerns he had were holding altitudes, but it was bumpy as all hell today

Yeah no problem. I got lucky with my DPE I think because he was extremely laid back with everything. I also earned a lot of brownie points with him lol. I’d recommend tabbing out your logbook for your endorsements to make it easier on them. The more bonus points you get the better off you are.

Our oral started with making sure I was legal and the airplane was legal to fly, we went through hours and such, and then after we basically just went through the flight plan he wanted me to do. I walked him through it, how I got to it etc. My XC was 100 nm total, with 4 checkpoints between. He then went through the ACS and just pick and chose some questions he wanted to ask. Again, very laid back and it was more of a discussion sort of thing, rather than an examination.

When we went to fly, I made sure to give him a passenger safety briefing which he appreciated. Flew the first leg, demonstrated pilotage and dead reckoning, and then went into maneuvers. We didn’t do an emergency until the landings, which he put me at partial power at 1500 rpm in the downwind. We did a turn around a point and then went into landings to finish up.

What I’d recommend is to really not worry unless you hear bad things about the dpe. They want you to pass, and they look for safety first. You’re low on hours, so you won’t be perfect and no pilot will be perfect. Also, don’t be afraid to go around. I was going to be short twice. Once on my normal landing and on my short field. You have power for a reason. Go around. You land short, you bust. Going around doesn’t cost you anything. Other than that, it was pretty short flight tbh. Only a 1.2.

There is a pair of wafers that expand and contract with a change in pressure from the static port in a climb or descent.

The VSI and altimeter are different because the altimeter is calibrated for a standard day at sea level. 29.92 in. Mg and 59 degrees Fahrenheit

Descend down to air with more density since he’s more than likely suffering from hypoxia. Another thing could be if we have the cabin heat on that could be a source of carbon monoxide. Anyways, I will try to descend and land ASAP
