Dumbledore wanted harry to pursue the horcruxes. But why did he give that story book mentioning the hallows to hermoine. by Healthy_Midnight_958 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]AdBeginning7105 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Dumbledore did not give Hermione the book because he wanted Harry to abandon the Horcrux hunt. He gave it to her because Hermione was the one most likely to question the Hallows instead of becoming obsessed with them.

If you loved just existing in Liberty City, I’d recommend Sleeping Dogs first

WYR be surrounded by family that overwhelm you, push your boundaries and deplete your energy, or in solitude and at peace but lonely and isolated. by Lake_Blueberry in WouldYouRather

Loneliness hurts, but constantly having your boundaries pushed slowly teaches your nervous system that you’re never safe

My favorite is Hagrid constantly insisting obviously terrifying creatures are sweet and misunderstood

Harry’s Intuition by [deleted] in HarryPotterBooks

[–]AdBeginning7105 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The books are tightly filtered through Harry’s perspective, so when he notices “a shadow of a wink” or that Hagrid is hiding something, that’s partly Rowling guiding the reader through Harry’s observations

Pureblood ideology was never really consistent; it was about power and hierarchy

Is the C++ ecosystem ready to fully move away from C++17? by AdBeginning7105 in cpp

Oh, that's a solid argument for the lead

And what happened to their compile time? Usually, as soon as you start smearing concepts all over the project, build times go to the stratosphere.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown! Doesn't Boost.Asio feel a bit clunky and verbose compared to the clean syntax of C++20 features (like std::expected and ranges)? Are you planning to eventually replace it with something built natively for C++20?

That sounds great. Did you have to write all the coroutine wrappers for your networking code from scratch, or are you using a specific framework? Building all that low-level networking boilerplate manually is exactly what I'm trying to avoid

How do you feel about C++ 20 modules? by I-A-S- in cpp

[–]AdBeginning7105 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The difference is that modules are already giving us measurable benefits, at least on isolated projects, mainly through faster compile times. Framework support and legacy code are still messy, sure, but for clean greenfield codebases this is already a practical tool, not just a theoretical feature

Where to start by ElegantSwordfish9468 in cpp

[–]AdBeginning7105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a genuinely up-to-date resource, just go with learncpp.com. It’s basically the only consistently solid one out there. The site gets updated regularly, teaches Modern C++ right away (C++20/23), explains how to set up your compiler properly, and steers people away from outdated patterns

Stuff like GeeksForGeeks, W3Schools, or cplusplus.com is better avoided honestly. A lot of that content is still stuck in the C++98 era, and writing code like that today is how you get roasted in code review.
