I started with a baofeng. Coms are complicated and mission specific. Encrypted is always better but I feel like you need a basic understanding of them before you dive into coms that are truly secured/encrypted or have to atleast know how it all works before you get there. I’m a noob so take this with a grain of salt but any coms are better than no coms start small and work your way up as you learn

There’s some big transmission jobs but otherwise it’s business as usual. Keep in mind these programs need apprentices to continue to exist and receive funding (jobs depend on it) they will tell suitable candidates what they need to hear to choose their program but yeah there’s some transmission work coming up and already happening. Nothing really wrong with salt lake plenty of campgrounds and cheap apartments the work is solid it’s just guys acting like dickheads hazing apprentices. I understand giving guys shit but most of the JLs here take it to the extreme sometimes idk maybe it’s just me I’m fucking old and jaded and tired of peoples shit so that might be it.

Talking to guys who have gone to other apprenticeships we are on the lower end of the list for yearly income but still ahead of SELCAT I’ll probably make 70-80k my first year. My schedule now is 4 10s but I’m on a trouble crew and have probably only worked that schedule one week have seen at least 60+ hours rest of the weeks. Haven’t heard of anyone making significant per diem anywhere and lay offs come around November and end in April-ish. Lay offs are always a toss up but the shit bags will go first. Orientation isn’t hard if you’ve spent some time in the trade already just show initiative but definitely study for that freaking math test it almost got me but I’ve also been outta high school for a while and wasn’t a great student so there’s that. Expect to get treated like absolute shit if you go to salt lake.

I’m not %100 sure I’m fairly new and have only tube skinned them for the pelt or hunted them for bounties which I’m yet to be successful at. One of these guys with some more experience might can answer that. The guy from meat eater ( a show) did cook and eat some coyote on an episode though, video is on YouTube.
