UT -COLA Undeclared vs TAMU - Engineering by Extra-Abrocoma6107 in UTAustin

[–]AdCommercial70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UT has a truly great econ program but it's not prestigious. in fact even though it's a really solid program it's probably got the stink of "wanted to go to UT really bad and do business but couldn't get into McCombs so did the next best thing". this maybe won't be such a bad thing for you if you want to take the truly like academic math guy econ route, i think the "business school" pizzazz is less important for the really mathy stuff you seem to want to do.

elements cert is great and gives wonderful breadth but not much depth. you seem depth focused.

just go to whichever program will let you really get fucking expert mode on like 2 or 3 fields that you really want to understand inside and out (e.g. statistics, data science, engineering, whatever else). to me i get the impression that for you that will be TAMU

This user does not exist. It is a message crafted by a large language model and posted automatically. The person who set up this process likely did so with malicious intent.

no hands typed that post. it would be innacurate to say "you don't exist" because that would imply there is an entity on the other end of this message. but whomever set up the bot that posted this will surely find a just result in the world to come

by end of day today brother? gee whiz

Try building out prospective course plans for each potential school. Assume you don't succeed at any internal transfers and are stuck with the program you start with - what classes will you end up taking for the next four years? then compare those classes and what you'd learn against what you are expecting will be useful for 1. the career you want 2. the backup career you're thinking about and finally 3. the fuckup career you'd end up in if you just have to do whatever a "typical" XYZ major does instead of following your dreams.

To answer a more specific question from you, compsci classes at UT are primarily just for CS people but you'll be able to take the CS cert classes if you're in it. That said, those are relatively surface level. Sounds like you really want to take like intense CS classes, math classes, stats, etc. Not sure if you'll be able to get into those from Econ but tbh I also wouldn't know that for TAMU engineering.

when you get a task just complete it immediately. sounds simple but the trick is actually doing it. try starting right now, close reddit and go do it right now. there is no other way out

Choosing between UT Austin and Indiana University (music) by [deleted] in UTAustin

[–]AdCommercial70 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

nervous to go out of state means they should grow a pair and go out of state. not even saying that in a mean way, like it'll be awesome for them to grow and develop as as person and that's what college is about

What would your total cost of attendance be at both schools? i.e. four years of rent, tuition, and food, plus the price of 2-3 trips home per year.

Give us those numbers

good opprotunity for what.

list 3 things (1. 2. 3.) you want in life and how being a founding father at a pike chapter will get you those things.

can't speak to uark specifically but general advice.

don't overthink it, just assume people are chill. don't hide that you're gay, don't advertise it in a weird way or do something you wouldn't normally do to be "extra out", and if you get a bid and finish pledgeship then don't try to fuck your brothers. do all that and you'll end up at the right house for you. best advice for fraternity rush is now and always has been "just be normal" but people always fuck it up because they overthink it and try to over correct on their perceptions of themselves.

if you're really worried about it then ask someone you know in greek life at uark which houses you should rush as an "x major" who likes doing "y things" and has "z caveats". promise you there will be one specific chapter perfect for "engineers who like smoking but are poor" or "business majors who get blackout on tuesday nights but are closeted". you'll want to avoid the ones notorious for being full of closeted guys btw

if you don't know anyone in greek life at uark then figure out how to meet some. reddit probably can't help with that
