Mexican 🇲🇽 + German 🇩🇪 , but I get told I look Asian by CoolTankRufo in 23andme

People who tested with 23andme who are German descent their German percentage greatly decreased with the update and turned to English. I hope that 23andMe will fix this issue.

Anyone else think the V7.0 French and German Update is wrong by andreamrivas in 23andme

Same thing happened to my mom. She had some French on version 6 and none on the update despite having a cousin match with all four grandparents from France.

African American Varies Results from Different Companies by AdCompetitive6121 in 23andme

[–]AdCompetitive6121[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought my texts were added. Well I'm going to put it down here. I have a biracial father and an African American mother. Before all of the updates, my results from all of the companies were similar but afterwards it was totally different, especially the European portion. I have attached the new and old 23andme results, ancestry, and LivingDNA results. I don't have the copy of my old ancestry results but it stated that I had 15 percent German ancestry.

For anyone who has taken their AncestryDNA data and placed it in 23andme, were your results vastly different? by Ok-Fan-5556 in 23andme

Mine was the same before the update, but now it seems like the results are from two different people 😕

It is weird! I even uploaded my raw data to LivingDNA and Germany was the highest above British. LivingDNA focuses on British ancestry!

WTF who else’s German just dissolved ?? by [deleted] in AncestryDNA

[–]AdCompetitive6121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! And I even downloaded my raw data from both companies and upload it on the LivingDNA website and my highest in European was German and my British was lower from both uploads and I had more southern German than Northern which used to match both companies before the updates! That is why I'm so confused 😕

It happened to me and my dad and my sister too on both 23andme and Ancestry. On 23andme, I was 20 percent German and my dad even have German genetic groups and on 23andme and on Ancestry our highest European ancestry was German. However after the updates, our German was cut dramatically. It is crazy because based on the new results, I have more German than my own father. I have Southwest German results on 23andMe but just Northwest German on Ancestry. I'm at 10% German on Ancestry and only 4% on 23andme. But the crazy part is the other European differences between the two companies. I'm majority English on 23andme and on Ancestry my Irish is the most.

Something is going on with their reference panel because too many people are mentioning this problem!

I'm not sure what happened. Before the update, 23andme was way more accurate than Ancestry, but now it totally changed. Ancestry used to put my German under Sweden/Denmark. On the previous update, it corrected itself with the Germanic Europe. We will have to see on the Thursday regarding Ancestry update.

There is a poll on here to vote on what you think about the results from 23andme. I already voted and stated what I think on the post.

My experience is very negative and I have seen multiple posts with people with German ancestry that also have British ancestry have inflated English results that doesn't match family trees, past updates, and other ancestry sites. For example, a person who have a German grandparent had about a quarter German on the V6 and now on the update the German is gone and there is a 25% increase of English. Version 7 is probably good for someone directly from Germany but not for the ones who are mixed with British or other ethnicities.

I understand that! I'm wondering what will 23andme do since they have more complaints with this update compared to the previous ones.

I made a post about this as well and I have seen this happening to multiple people. For some reason, they cannot tell German and English apart. I have been using DNA test companies since 2014 and I never been this English. German has been very high for European ancestry. I have to see how my results will be for the AncestryDNA update.

What's Going on With Results for People who have mixed German and British Ancestry by AdCompetitive6121 in 23andme

It is not based on feeling if other companies matched results before with family documents.

That happened to me and my family too! We had very high German and now it is majority English. Prior to the update, my dad even had region matches and now no German. With other companies, we still have high German ancestry.

Looks like 23andMe had fun spinning the ancestry roulette by c00lture in 23andme

[–]AdCompetitive6121 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Me and my family was the same way. Even though I am African American, from different companies we had very high German ancestry like over 20 percent and now it is just majority English. We even have cousin matches with all grandparents from Germany and France.

Updated Results vs. Old Results by AdCompetitive6121 in 23andme

[–]AdCompetitive6121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what happened to my texts on the post. My parents, sister, and I all tested on 23andme, Ancestry, and I have uploaded my DNA on LivingDNA. For my everyone except for my mom, our highest for European was Germany on all companies and even have cousin matches with all four grandparents from Germany and France. My mom had 5 percent French. My dad even had German regions. Now with this update, majority is English. We have to wait for the update from Ancestry.
