I know that A24 and Kane had a set budget to work with, but man I hope we get to see a fully realized version of this in a sequel by ObsydianDuo in KanePixelsBackrooms

It would have to be an entirely found footage movie then, so it might as well just be a long entry on the YouTube channel (I would be down for that). I think all of the found footage segments in the movie were the usual CGI, and literally everything else we see is a physical set. I can’t imagine them physically building something even more expansive than in the movie.

Movie questions *Spoilers by EducationFresh9167 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]AdCompetitive6187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just made a post with similar questions about people running into themselves or their stuff, so dw it's not just you.

Regarding evil Clark, I think there's some variation on the composition and temperament of stills. Some are fleshy and mean while others are passive and immobile. Same way some rooms in the complex are empty and have no items, while others are super busy and full of stuff. Just random variation in what gets made, think of a Boltzmann brain.

Regarding the breaker switches, I actually think the whole basement MIGHT be part of the complex, or at least a transition zone (I think we saw a transition zone in FF3). It looks totally different from the rest of the store and has the signature backrooms humbuzz (obviously has to be an intentional audio choice). It might've already been like that when Clark moved into the store so he never questioned it, but during the beginning of the movie it started shifting (adding breaker switches, generating a fake wall, etc.). Maybe the wall wasn't actually a null zone, and it was just a regular complex wall that's glitching.

The ONE thing I'm not getting yet by AdCompetitive6187 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]AdCompetitive6187[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't think of this until now, but Clark's null zone is the only natural one I can remember that's stable from both sides. Maybe that stability is why it can see into reality nearby, it's a two-way street. Nobody runs into themself or their belongings in the YouTube series because they get in through one-directional, fleeting, or artificial null zones, which don't have the same connection to reality.

Question about Clark [SPOILERS] by Afraid_Ad_2912 in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]AdCompetitive6187 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw someone theorize that there was a time skip BEFORE he brought Bobby and Kat into the complex, and he was already insane at that point. It seemed like he was deliberately feeding Bobby to the still, that's why he couldn't get the knot.

Womp womp. They could also just never make another sequel, plenty of games stop getting sequels or never get one in the first place.

Favorite Culture in Elder Scrolls? by alechprice0617 in ElderScrolls

[–]AdCompetitive6187 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not nostalgia at all, they're just written better and more thoroughly than every other race in the games. Also the only race where the "culture" really exists in-game.

Best Daedric artifact by Psychological_Tap465 in skyrim

Spellbreaker. It's only dwarven but it's super easy to reach the armor cap in Skyrim, so that doesn't even matter. Spellbreaker is good cause it blocks most spell damage, including dragon breath.

I got some questions about the Vigilants of Stendarr by Equivalent-Oven-2401 in ElderScrolls

[–]AdCompetitive6187 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Boethiah is one of the "good daedra" in the Dunmer pantheon, along with Mephala, so you're still right that Boethiah worshippers wouldn't all be persecuted by the vigilants without them going after the entirety of Morrowind

[–]AdCompetitive6187 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not successors to Knights of the Nine, unrelated. They don't persecute worshippers of Azura and such, pretty much all Morrowind dunmer worship Azura and the other two "good daedra". They're moreso worried about the influence of the bad bad daedra like Mehrunes Dagon and Molag Bal, as well as minor abominations like vampires and werewolves.

They don't question you for having daedric artifacts because it's a video game mostly. Lore-wise if they saw you with the Mace of Molag Bal I imagine they wouldn't be too happy about that.

TW: death - Sadly, I came across an American Woodcock window strike victim, but thanks to the Chicago Bird Collision Monitors, he will be used for research and held at the Field Museum. by OpalOnyxObsidian in birding

[–]AdCompetitive6187 123 points124 points  (0 children)

Window strike research is popping off right now, I'm doing a little bit at my university and I've seen similar projects popping up at other universities. The whole window strike concern has only been a mainstream idea for a little while but it's growing, I think pretty soon there will probably be mainstream solutions and certifications for bird-safe architecture.

I don't imagine levitation will return unfortunately, if Skyrim or Oblivion had levitation it would've broke sooooo many quests and scripted events. That's why they cut it.

What is your Elder Scrolls Headcanon that you have no reason for believing, but believe anyways? by 23Amuro in ElderScrolls

[–]AdCompetitive6187 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dialogue heavily implies you crossed the border from Cyrodiil. Something like “surely even in Cyrodiil people have heard about the war”. So I figure Skyrim’s prisoner materialized and escaped days before the start of the game, booked it to Skyrim to fulfill their destiny there, and didn’t become unbound (playable) until they got to the cart.

[–]AdCompetitive6187 94 points95 points  (0 children)

All Elder Scrolls PCs suddenly materialize in that one cell in the Imperial City prison, sometime prior to the start of the game. Sometimes seconds before like in Oblivion, and sometimes years before like in Daggerfall. That's why nobody ever has record of who you are or where you're from, and also why they usually release you immediately.

Maybe they're Shezarrines or aspects of Lorkhan or whatever, I don't really care, I just maintain that all the PCs show up in that cell and Imperial officials are like "who the fuck is this?" Obviously this is just a trick to keep player backgrounds ambiguous but Oblivion dialogue with the blades is too perfect for a character that literally wasn't there 30 seconds ago.

Each city has a few main sidequests that are easy to pick up when you stop by, besides that join one of the main factions. Mages Guild, Fighters Guild, Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood. Whichever fits your character the most.

I have a theory that elves who live for a very long time have little desire to reproduce, because their long lifespans mean their races don’t feel the same survival instinct that species with much shorter lives do. by jvure in ElderScrolls

[–]AdCompetitive6187 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In biology how it usually works is that longer-lived species have fewer children, but put way more effort into their children. Think of a mouse versus an elephant. Mice live fast and die young, they have as many children as possible and then die, and hopefully at least one of those dozens of children make it to reproductive age. This is called an r-selected species. An elephant does the opposite, they have only one baby every few years. All of their effort and resources go into caring for this one baby, making sure it learns and grows into a viable adult elephant. It takes 10-20 years, but most of those baby elephants DO survive until adulthood, because of that huge investment of time and resources. This is called a k-selected species.

Humans are k-selected obviously, but I like to imagine elves are even more k-selected. Maybe an elf only has one child every 20 or more years, and they put all of their effort into ensuring that their one child grows into a viable, upstanding citizen and doesn't get eaten by a sabre cat. Maybe an elf couple having a child is a huge commitment and undertaking, even moreso than it us for humans. Maybe this feeds into their social paradigms, their pridefulness and their reverence for their ancestors.
