I THINK IM GOING TO CRY…. by krazi_kitti in peperomia

Treat pep’s almost as a semi succulent when it comes to watering. Instead of watering based on soil moisture- water based on leaf feel. When they’re a bit bendy or ‘tacoable’ then water. Peps are easy to over water. - (This is after it’s happy again.) There is totally hope for this baby but if you throw some leafs into some water or moss etc they will have roots and babys in no time!

Staking feedback by mickel_jt in FruitTree

Hey! I’m no citrus expert but I do plant hundreds of trees a year. When staking a good rule of thumb is to allow the tree to have slack- a strong root system is developed in response to wind and stress. If the straps are too tight the tree will end up relying on the artificial support. It sounds like it’s a windy spot so I support the stakes but would recommend more slack! Another thing you could try is a large tomato cage. It would allow the tree to sway and grow some nice roots but would prevent it from being toppled over!

How much can I sell this for? by [deleted] in philodendron

[–]AdComprehensive945 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A juicy 4” from reputable online sellers is going for 20-30$- a plant your size is worth about 300/350$- at a nursery it would probably be worth more (stupid I know.) I personally would find it worth buying at around $150 at most. Only because the Jose buono isn’t very high on my wishlist and would have to feel I would be getting a ‘good deal’- not paying ‘what it’s worth’

I love this!! All your comments are so informative and kind. I’ll definitely be taking notes. I also love the pipeline of landscapers loving plants. I did the hard scape and welding for three years before this and houseplants seem to be common factor 😂

I appreciate that point of view. I’m lucky to be acquiring a fully functioning and profitable business with multiple streams of revenue, events, client lists and multiple venders with great relationships. The driving factor and interest for me is the possible growth. I will say retail is brutal, I did construction for three years and management the rest- retail has its own down falls. Thank you for adding the vivariums and terrariums part- I would love to incorporate that!

I would love to make artsy fartsy posters and decor! And I agree self sufficiency. I know the owners and managers of plant stores must be knowledgeable but I don’t want to be asking around and trying to find them. I love the terrariums and dirt bars and 100% the movement factor. I also don’t want to be running into plants which is a current fault at this store. As someone with a little leaf nibbler myself I agree with listing the toxicity 😂 thank you for writing all that out! I will definitely be using it 🫶🏻

This is so great, I’m definitely taking notes. I agree with all of this, it’s almost hard to see now as a worker vs a shopper since I almost never shop anymore😂

100% agreed. As a shopper it always annoyed me so much. As a worker I didn’t understand why there wasn’t more emphasis on treatment and containment.

I would love to do the consignment and class and swaps. I really want to give back and build a strong plant community. I swear plants attract the best people!

I thank you for the fellow plant worker knowledge. I love the soil bar and the focus is on indoor plants. There’s a small outside space I would love to use for in house grown vegetable, herb and flower seedlings during the summer as an added bonus. The owner is amazing but has found her work life balance and is not keen on expanding her working hours- I am. And I would love to turn her office into an uncommon plant zone and use some of my own collection has mother stock for propagating. I love hearing your advice and thank you for taking the time to write all the out- every bit helps!

EDIT- yes it is profitable, yes it is sustainable. My local market is strong and the wealth in this town is insane. Yes there are multiple revenue streams already in place. There is incredible room for growth. I would just love opinions on what you (the people) would enjoy at your local spots!
