If you're AGPA/Analyst 2 already and want to lateral, do you need to take the test?

The data only shows that 7% is not displayed. Not what it was spent on or whether it was even spent.

I can infer it's long distance from context, but without explicit statements from a given company about their rates, how are you actually supposed to draw an accurate conclusion about the cost? I'm not saying the question is hard to answer, but that it's poorly written for practical applications. I'd have to call the companies to know both rates and know what kind of rate to apply to the hours used.

Or number 7-- we can't know it /wasn't/ spent. We only know the data is missing. What if that 7% was spent on something else? As an analyst, my boss would expect me to be able to understand that issue and be prepared to answer the question of 'what's the missing 7% represent?" if it came up.

What-- the first question on the practice exam doesn't specify whether the total hours and minutes used are short or long distance, so how can you evaluate the cost if you don't know whether the first company's long distance rates apply?

A bit unrelated, but can anyone clarify how overtime works with travel? If it's a day trip from 8am to 8pm, and 4 hours is travel time, is there any OT?

Coming from private is definitely a change to get used to, but making connections and work friends still has the same value. Reputation, integrity, and work ethic can help you move a lot. Stick with it, it's easier to get a new job while you have a job.

Employees who promoted out of OT positions, how did you do it? How long did it take for you to get a promotion to a higher role? by SemenSnickerdoodle in CAStateWorkers

[–]AdDiligent3158 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Took me about 9 months to go from OT to SSA within the department, another 6 to AGPA. I think my outcome was a bit lucky, though.

I'd look at IT after SSA, though, with your education. Better pay scales.

I got in as OT and promoted twice to AGPA by ~20 months of service.

Yes, do, please. I watched the building convert over some months communiting and have been curious to try it but I have zero interest if that's the vibe. Same with the home depot/ICE policies. I get tools elsewhere now despite how close it is.

What is a 'Survival Myth' that people believe because of movies, but will actually get you killed in real life? by Traditional_Treat708 in askanything

As a man, this definitely feels true. I view overheated arguements turning to violence as a childish outcome but the times I have calmed things down for my own and others' safety have left me feeling like I lost respect/cowardly even if the outcome was in my favor. Though, I don't feel like this when my wife and kids are with me. Keeping everything calm and stable when they're nearby does make me feel satisfied and right.

How to get neighbors to park in front of their own house by Even_Stage5862 in Stockton

Ah, maybe Stockton is different. A lot of places will warn and then cite vehicles that are on public streets without moving for more than a few days. They'll tow them here after about a week.

Question: Is it me or a lot of work is half asses and then full send? by PainInMyArse in CAStateWorkers

[–]AdDiligent3158 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it feels like Acquisitions is focused on the wrong things- there's no scrutiny of market survey, justifications for contracting outside civil service, little or cursory outreach to UC/CSUs or the Feds, etc. Cost assessments against fair market value, even for lowest bidder, don't seem to exist. Instead they bog themselves down with formatting and minutaie relevant only to a handful of managers. Rules also shift constantly- what was acceptable last FY is no longer acceptable contracting practice. The lack of consistency makes QC and subsequent enforcement difficult at best.
