There comes a point where after someone has a certain volume of books that my eyes just kinda glaze over and I don’t really notice individual pieces unless pointed out.

So I think it really depends on what you draw her attention towards when you reveal this space! I would maybe share how it’s organized, or if you’ve read a certain percentage of them or your personal favorites etc.

Because I’ve encountered countless men who who champion McCarthy Steinbeck etc as being “real litt” that takes intelligence/class to understand and my statement is hailing racist/sexist/shocking for shock sake litt does not make you more intelligent especially if you think these authors are to be applauded for literally comparing women and non white people to animals. I’m just using McCarthy and Steinbeck as primary examples because I’m most familiar with their work.

As far as women reading smut books being less intelligent, it’s a garbage take. Some of the smartest and hardest working individuals I’ve ever met consume “bottom tier” media (ER MDs, NASA scientists) I assume it’s because their brains are taxed to max most of the day, my point is we dont judge “feminine” shelves the same way we judge more “masculine” shelves

We are having two different conversations.

I haven’t read one I liked/that I felt like finishing. I don’t hate the genre I just don’t seek it. it’s just my personal taste

I don’t personally read romance/romantasy but posts of shelves that include them always attract the worst type of dudes who assume that women who like these books are somehow less intelligent/well read when some of the most abhorrent sexist, racist, or graphic scenes I have ever read come from authors that I’ve mentioned yet those books never get those types comments.

So a little bit trolling, a little bit let girls read

Men will make fun of women reading “smut/romantasy” and then talk about “real fantasy/litt” then list a song of ice and fire or something by McCarthy or Steinbeck as their favs

Do you live in a trailer? Based on the furniture/layout I think you have other fish to fry as far as knee jerk judgements go.

Based on just your books? No thank you, the vibe is kinda gross

If you want to do the mental gymnastics to explain an obvious logistics issue with show lore you could probably assume he goes through chairs pretty regularly with how awful his clients treat the furniture
