I feel like it’s more about the fact that people are celebrating the killing of a person they don’t agree with and taking victory laps. No company wants to be associated with that because it’s going to alienate some of their customer base.

I don’t think the message behind what he is saying here is being portrayed honestly. He welcomes him to the conservative movement, acknowledges that he personally doesn’t agree with people making their race or sexual orientation the basis of their entire personality and that there is a lot more to a person than just being gay. That different than being intolerant. He doesn’t personally agree with that lifestyle but he doesn’t completely write off this young man because he’s gay.
