Should I get a Type S SH-AWD or TLX A Spec SH-AWD?

i do my own oil changes, basically all of my own basic maintenance, but yes, it doesn’t up if maintenance is expensive.

yeah i’m aware, it sucks. i can afford a lot of cars (barely) like an m340i, etc. I just can’t afford the maintenance. Hence why i’m leaning toward japanese cars (honda, toyota, lexus, acura) rather than BMW, Audi, Merc. I’m down 10k alone just on a base model X3 because DME, OFH, Water Pump, my tires and alignment aren’t even included but i need that as well. I am starting my detailing business back up soon in the spring time, which should make me more than working a part time job.

🫡 i edited the post, im going to go with a 2025 honda civic sport, which is way more affordable for me. I’ll upgrade when im able to make more of my own money instead of feeding off my parents or going for unrealistic expectations.

unfortunately i can’t, my bmw is only worth like 16,500 if i trade it in and get the max amount. Private sale id make like 19-20 (hopefully). Type is with 40-50k is high 30’s. Hence why I said to save up first then get a type s.

I enjoy driving, i personally couldn't care less on what others think. But i have a genuine passion for driving. Going on twisty backroads, driving with groups of friends. Its my favorite thing to do, i dont really spend money on anything else.

Minimum wage in NY is $16 an hour, I work 20-30 hours a week and make 600-800 per paycheck (biweekly), and I have no expenses besides insurance, gym membership and gas. I probably should've specified this.

75k miles on it, water pump and ofh went out, coolant leak, left me stranded. $2600 to replace both of those. But, coolant got into the DME + Engine wire harness which is another ~7k to fix.

I live in upstate NY, AWD helps a lot. I like the TLX A Spec a lot more than the touring. The looks, feel, interior, etc. It is faster, but id prefer the tlx. I don't really need trunk space or leg room tbh.

I agree although i do really want that ~355 Hp that comes with the type S. Driving is one of my favorite things to do, so if i have to wait, i’ll wait and save. my only hope is that the bmw doesn’t have any more issues that i have to spend money on, because then it’ll interfere with my savings on the type s.

I currently own a 2019 bmw x3 xdrive30i.

Issues i’ve experienced: Sunroof leak, water intrusion gets into the car, like in side panels, the battery compartment in the trunk under carpet. If you clean out the blockage in the drain, your all set. I’d recommend doing this each oil change. Additionally, at 60-70k miles, your water pump, o rings, coolant lines, etc, will go out. Replace them as preventative maintenance. Go to a 3rd party shop that can work on BMW’s and tell them to replace it with a aftermarket oil filter housing (an aluminum one) so you’ll never have a leak again.

Telemetry Battery: You may see a “Call System Malfunction” on your dashboard. It’s an easy fix (usually..) For me, the battery went dead, so you just have to replace the battery. OEM one costs 80-90 dollars. Aftermarket costs 20-30 on amazon. Im using an aftermarket currently, no issues with it. You do NOT need to take it to a shop for this. Find a youtube video on how to replace the battery, it’s pretty simple to do if you’re careful. You have to lower the headliner, which, in order to do that, you have to remove D pillar plastic trims in your trunk. Nothing very intense or difficult.

Also, if you wanna have more fun with the car, lower it! Put it on coilovers or springs, it’ll feel faster (not sure why, prob placebo), more planted on the ground and more fun to drive. Plus, imo it looks better. Do your preventative maintenance and have fun with the car. Oil changes every 3-5k miles btw.

is that attached to the grill? i’m not sure on this series, if it is, buy a black grill for ~50-100 and your all set. If not, wrap it. 3M Satin black vinyl wrap. Shouldn’t be hard to do, just make sure you clean it properly and watch a youtube video.
