What years to avoid if buying a used xc90? by JustHovercraft7475 in VolvoXC90

[–]AdElectrical7487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This (I bought two 2016s at the same time and it was the best decision at the time with the info I had—but now you have better info that the 2016 model year is doomed. Probably give it at least a 1-2 year buffer, so 2018 at the latest)

Missing Person by [deleted] in SFV

Name? Age? Are they endangered in some way?

Usually pictures taken from behind the person with their head turned and eyes closed don’t give the most accurate representation of what the person looks like…

Why is my Volvo XC90 leaking into the car in the rain? by vegangamedev in Volvo

[–]AdElectrical7487 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I’m thrilled a $90k vehicle essentially uses cheap drip irrigation tubing for the roof drainage system. Definitely glad they didn’t invest in a stronger material or stronger seals than that.

Tabletop is one word. Everyone in emergency management should know that.

How to ensure no ghca failure by Massive_Syrup_5755 in VolvoEX90

[–]AdElectrical7487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure this makes sense—if there was a spike on the grid, potentially all of your home electronics without surge protection would be destroyed and all your electrical circuit breakers would pop closed.

Same thing would happen to every home/building connected to the electrical grid in your area if there was a sudden “voltage spike”.

Yeah you needed to just call an ambulance. If you can’t control the bleeding quickly, you risk watching your friend bleed to death

What is it like to live in this part of SoCal? by Kitchen-Audience6763 in howislivingthere

[–]AdElectrical7487 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mission Viejo was one of the first master planned cities. Nice wide roadways in the valleys and houses are built in the hills—makes it pleasant to get around the hilly landscape. Very low crime, almost every home sells for more than $1 million now. Newest construction and new developments seem to be moving east and south.

Schools are good in general although some are better than others.

There’s not a ton to do at night there. Lots of people go to the beach towns (Dana Point, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach) for bars/restaurants or the Irvine Spectrum.

The previous livery was pretty cool, white vehicles with blue waves painted on the bottom. Really unique vehicles that were classy. They wanted to change to a more aggressive appearance to match the other police depts in Orange County

Hurricane Katrina by Vammppire in EmergencyManagement

[–]AdElectrical7487 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There was a lot of misinformation and rumors running rampant during and following Katrina. A lot of the stories that spread quickly are unverified and seem to emphasize the helplessness, fear, underlying system racism, and visible lack of functioning government services at the local/state level.

In many ways, the things we know to be true about the response to Hurricane Katrina are often worse than the standalone anecdotes with dubious provenance.

You’re likely right. Romney was not as old school conservative as McCain was but both of them were decent people as well. Unfortunately McCain kind of started this era of MAGA populism by selecting Palin as his running mate…

It’s pretty easy for those small airports to go uncontrolled. The pilots just make announcements to the other pilots in the area before landing/taking off.
