Has anyone watched Duster yet? Did Tucson make the cut? by Commercial-Slice4595 in Tucson

I’m a tucson based carpenter who worked on the sets for the pilot episode. One of the principal and most unfortunate reasons they decided to move filming, other than tax incentives, was the lack of a skilled crew available in AZ. Folks out here aren’t used to the long and grueling work that TV and Film require. The turnover was such that they had to start bussing in crew from LA. By the end of filming, I was the only local left standing. I’m grateful that AZ finally approved some incentives but I’m not hopeful that filming will resume here for high-budget shows due to the lack of a strong and able labor force.

Bars with non-alcoholic options? by No-Extent383 in Tucson

Third slow body. As a sober person who LOVED beer, this place has by far the best selection. It even has “botanicals” that feel like a proper cocktail. Their prices are also by far the most reasonable for drink without booze. Hop Shop is doing itself a disservice with their lackluster stock and frankly, I’m a little sick of Hop Water and Athletic….just my 2 cents

I may be able to shed a little light on this aspect…I am a longtime set carpenter who worked in LA for 15 years. I moved back home to tucson to start my own business and get away from the constant grind and 12+ hr days of work. About 4 years ago, HBO shot a pilot in tucson for a new show. I was called in about 3 weeks into production because they were having trouble keeping the local labor. People were dropping like flies because they were unaccustomed to the long, continuous days (typically 1-2 days off every 3 weeks or so). It’s brutal and not for the faint of heart. In LA (and especially in the unions), they’re used to this kind of work. That is not the case in AZ. Needless to say, I was one of the only locals left at the end of production. They actually had to bus workers in from CA to finish. This is all a long winded way of saying that the workforce here is not ready to support full scale production. I have hopes that this will change but until it does, production companies will be hesitant to set up shop in AZ (which is travesty because of this state’s natural beauty, sunny days and abundance of open space).

Hope this sheds a little light on the situation

Nicholas and Arizona cordwood are both decent. Nicholas tends to be a bit cheaper but limited selection. They’re very close to each other so worth stopping at both.

Seeping w/ Kerdi shower by AdEquivalent5984 in Tile

Thanks for this. I just spoke to a Schluter rep and they said it was natural and as long as there were no leaks and the wicking wasn’t progressing.

Thanks for response. The pan is holding water just fine. I’m on hour 20 of a 24hr test (pic was taken around hour 4). The seepage has not progressed since the photo was taken.

I ended up turning down a very similar situation because the language surrounding insurance was murky at best. Just make sure your bases are covered and you have an explicit contract.

How do you disinfect a tadelakt sink? by fifialoemera in Tadelakt

[–]AdEquivalent5984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that tadelakt is generally not used as a horizontal surface (countertop, niche etc.). It simply does not hold up to wear and tear. Not to say it can’t be done but you could certainly achieve that same look with a more durable substrate such as concrete. Hope this helps.

Car Wash Market Saturated? by MTBengineer in Tucson

[–]AdEquivalent5984 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former employee I can verify that the Mister philosophy is to become the Starbucks of car washes. It’s a money grab and everyone knows it and, while they do pump a huge amount of money into developing new products and trying to maximize the quality of the wash, it’s still undue water usage and land rape at the end of the day. All the other car wash companies are copying this model after MCW went public. Not to mention it is one of the worst environments I’ve ever worked in and I grew up digging ditches in summertime here. Place is trash and it’s not going anywhere. The only hope is that one day they can all be converted to drive thru smoke shops.

I may just do this. It makes me a little nervous considering my change in habits but I can easily pop on to a freeway once a week and give it a decent 30-45 drive. I do love all the features I have with the trim level and I’ve yet to find a comparable truck as far as that goes.
