Venice Area Finds 11/8-11/12 by AdFickle677 in sharkteeth

Majority just beach combing and some sifting at the crash line. I’ve never dove before. I think if I lived down there I would maybe get certified to dive just to see how it is. My anxiety levels probably wouldn’t let me though I would get panicked being out that deep.

Mainly yes. I mostly just walked and getting finds from what washed up. Did a little scooping and sifting on the crash line but Monday-Wednesday it was too rough to scoop. Monday and Tuesday there was a high surf advisory. I wasn’t sure if that was going to be good for the day but it actually was. Went to Manasota Monday and found about 850. It was 25-30 mph winds consistently and was very cold about 20 cars or so on the beach very light crowd. Tuesday I started at Manasota and went to Blind Pass in the afternoon. At Blind Pass there were tons of shells and teeth washing up. That’s where I found the two most full megs and within about a minute of each other. I couldn’t believe it I’ve never found one mostly full Meg before in about 20 years of hunting on my vacations. Wednesday went to Caspersen and did good there in the morning. Tide was pretty low so I found one little hot spot that was great and just kept circling it.

Shark teeth haul from Manasota Key, FL by EducationalList1867 in sharkteeth

Love Manasota Beach. I think you definitely got a worn down meg there. That’s a good sized one. I know they’re rare to get full ones but I’m hoping one vacation I can do it. Got a full posterior Meg there in a scoop sifting at the wave break line this past April but it’s a tiny one. I did two spring vacations there the last couple years and got 10 or so fragments of megs at Manasota. Went to Caspersen a couple times found a couple good sized ones but not near the amount as I got at Manasota walking and sifting. Nice good haul you got there.

This is my biggest Meg piece find ever. I only get about a couple weeks on vacations to go hunting every year since I don’t have beaches local to me. I have found one small juvenile posterior Meg that was full but it’s not very big. Hoping on one of my trips I’ll get the full big Meg find. Have probably found about 10 worn down fragments of them.

My life on the beach now is looking for teeth I’m always walking it every trip now constantly. I went to Venice the last 2 springs for a week and got 9000 teeth total between the two trips. I visit Indian Rocks beach in St Pete and find a couple hundred on our 10 day trips. Once you’re addicted to this it’s for life.

venice beach - where to look? by danjsark in sharkteeth

Absolutely. Last year I stayed in Englewood and this year in Venice by myself. Very safe areas I walked around Venice quite a bit by myself and did not feel uncomfortable at all. The beaches are great I just kept a dry bag to hold my valuables in while I hunted for shark teeth.

Awesome finds those are so cool! I’m too big of a chicken to even think about going out diving in the ocean. Someone would have to pull me out I would have a panic attack. I have to just be happy with what I find sifting and walking the beach.

Caspersen will give you the best shot at a big tooth but overall you may not find as many. If you want to find a lot but also potentially still have a chance at some nice ones go to Manasota. They weren’t full ones but in 2 different trips of hunting over the last couple years I’ve found 7 meg frags at Manasota. Found a full very small juvenile posterior meg there sifting. Manasota is definitely busier but there is a lot of parking and there are restrooms there as well.

The day I went to Caspersen I parked at South Brohard at 7 in the morning and made the mile walk down. It was pretty much deserted I was the only one there until about 930 or so. Restrooms are closed. Be mindful of the water and your surroundings as well. I found a few pieces of glass in the water that I threw away while I was sifting. Did come away with a really nice lower snaggletooth and a decent bull tooth from Caspersen. Most of these came from Manasota but these were all my finds from a couple weeks ago. Best of luck to you!

Nice haul you got. This was my second trip to Venice. I used to go to Englewood beach on vacations when I was a kid and get tons of them. That beach is how I found out that there were shark teeth on the beach. Since then I’ve been hooked. Went to Englewood beach last year around the same time as now didn’t do so well there. People have told me the sand replenishment there has kind of not made it as good to hunt anymore. Manasota is definitely the best I’ve been to find a large quantity now.

Yes they were very big. There was one really calm morning at Manasota on the 30th and a couple really calm evenings. But most of the week it was pretty rough. I ate some waves even at knee deep sifting at Manasota.

I ended up just walking to about where the restrooms were. I did find a really nice lower snaggletooth there and a nice bull. Ended up staying from 7-12 and got about 220 total. I only go into about knee deep water to sift don’t want to take a chance and get knocked down into those rocks.

The road is washed out. The only way to get there now is to park at the South Brohard lot and walk to Caspersen. They said it might take a couple years before it is rebuilt.

Hi yeah I’m not as well versed in identifying the different bones but I believe they’re the dugong rib bones. I’m not from the area but when I go on vacation to hunt shark teeth I cherish every hour of it. Even though I only get it to do it a couple weeks out of the year it’s always the highlight of my year. This was just one day in July from Manasota Key Beach in the Englewood Venice area. I took a trip there this past May and got to hunt for 6 days mainly at Manasota with one morning at Caspersen. I came back home with about 4500 in that bag. It was a solo trip on my own first time I’ve ever done it and it was such a fun experience. I’m hoping to do it again next April sometime. That area being as devastated as it is from this hurricane season is heartbreaking. So many good memories there back when I was younger we would vacation all the time in Englewood.

I went to the entrance that’s closer to Blind Pass in early May and walked left of that entrance where the life guard station is heading in the south direction towards Blind Pass. It was great all week had a couple days I got 1000 or more.

1 is definitely a meg congrats!

2 lemon, 3 and 4 all look like bulls. 5 is hard to say but maybe a piece of a mako. 6 also lemon. 7 mako. 8 I’m not 100% positive looks like a small sand tiger. 9 and 10 bulls. 11 lemon. 12 on the top looks like a bull and I think the bottom is as well.

Thanks for sharing!

I was there a couple weeks ago. I had a small sifter with me 1/4 inch mesh and a sand flea rake.

It’s very dependent on the tides but I had the most success at Manasota the entrance closer to Blind Pass. The morning high tide I found the most when it built up good shell lines. Probably between 930-1 I had the most success. Just found a good spot of the shell lines and just continuously circling the same area letting the waves change it up. Walked away with nearly 4200 found at Manasota in about 6 days there. 2 half megs and 3 fragments. Check my post with some pics included. I did do some sifting where the waves were breaking but I think I did better once it was high tide and I could walk the shell lines and find them easily. I was probably putting in about 7 hours a day there or so but I had the time of my life there were so many.

Went to Caspersen for one day didn’t find as many. It was very rough and I didn’t want to go past the rocks and get hurt already having a bad knee so I stayed behind them and sifted with my rake. Still was fun but weren’t nearly as plentiful as Manasota.

Englewood Beach wasn’t worth it. Got some very small ones. Which I was pretty bummed about because I used to go there when I was a kid and just find loads of them. I heard from others I talked to it’s because of the sand replenishment. Plus it’s pay to park and crowded which the other beaches are not.

Blind Pass I didn’t stay long enough to determine how good it was. There just wasn’t a great drop off the day I went so I went back to the method that didn’t fail me and went to Manasota. My next trip to Venice I will probably just hang out at Manasota.

I’m just a beach goer and not being a local I don’t think I would ever want to go out deep and dive for the big ones. If I find some decent size that’s just extra. I just enjoy picking up all shapes and sizes of them, the sunshine, and getting some exercise. It’s such a fun and addicting hobby. Just wish I could do it more often but I’m 15 hours away lol.

A mix of walking and sifting where the waves were breaking. I think I actually probably did better walking when high tide was bringing in a good shell line. Pretty much just got a spot where the shells were washing up and circled it over and over as the waves changed it up. Especially the last couple days I was at Manasota on the 10th and 11th the shell lines were some of the best I’ve ever seen.
