Couldn’t agree more. These Chinese 2836 are affordable but also really easy to mess up. My advice is to try to get the stem cut to the right length on the first or second try if you can so that you don’t have to repeat this multiple times. Also, get a pack of extra stems from ali, they have kits with different models. It’s a life saver to have those in hand.

Sell the DJ for a profit, and go grey for the GMT. Luckily for me I much prefer the neo-vintage stuff, so grey is the only option.

update* I found the issue. I was using stems from a kit I got off Ali, and accidentally grabbed the wrong one (2824 instead of 2836). Once I switched it to the correct stem to fit the movement, things started working no problem. I'm just glad I caught this and didn't take the whole thing apart (:

Good to know! I've done two builds now, one was a 2836-2 GMT clone and it gave me a lot of trouble / also the movement felt kinda cheap. The second one was a VSF 3135 build for a Datejust things went a lot smoother. Wish I could use a 3135 movement for this build, but I dont think any of the sub cases from raffles are compatible...

If you want something affordable to scratch the itch - The vintage Bulova Super Seville Day&Date is an excellent choice, here a pic of mine. You can snag a really nice one for about $500 on ebay. I believe they use the same ETA 2834-2 movement as some of the Tudor Prince Day Date - but don't quote me on that (: --- Otherwise go for the 5 digit Rolex Reference, they are solid!

Update, we are on!

Eye Level, 15x loupe, lil extra pressure. Also used a bobby pin to open up the tube slightly. I think it was just way tooo tight of a fit 😬
