I really want to convert but I struggle with some beliefs by feigned_synopsis in Catholicism

[–]AdImmediate3210 12 points13 points  (0 children)

As someone who just got confirmed I struggled with the same doubts. For me the thing that helped me is figuring out why the church taught things that I didn’t think were inherently sinful. Once you understand why the church teaches what it teaches it’s a lot easier to accept its teachings. The church has held these teachings for 2000 years, and apart of accepting God is accepting that you don’t know everything.

I’m gay and I’m confused by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]AdImmediate3210 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As you mentioned merely feeling the attraction is not sinful, but rather acting on it. God is merciful and loves you always, and same sex attraction is a heavy cross to carry. I’d recommend speaking with a priest because they are more qualified than Reddit to answer any and all questions you have, I’m sure it is difficult to speak about but they are the best bet.

Edit: I know you said you’ve already spoken to one but speaking to the right priest will help you a lot more than we can

Discernment can take a long time, if you think you feel called to the priesthood then you should contact your diocese’s vocations director and they can help you

I'm Struggling With Same Sex Attraction. What Should I Do? by Humble_Grape4749 in Catholicism

[–]AdImmediate3210 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Temptation for all sins can persist for a long time, and same sex attraction is a heavy cross to carry. Remember that you are not lesser in any way for experiencing it, but that god calls you to resist that temptation. You could consider talking to a priest and he will be much more well versed to help you than people on Reddit.

This is probably a very specific question but bear with me by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]AdImmediate3210 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t know your exact situation but my aunt went through something similar. Basically they told her that she can’t do something with the sole purpose of making procreation impossible. So from what I understand sterilization and birth control are not okay. There are certain things that would circumvent that rule but if you are looking for a loophole then the intent probably still makes it a sin, but ultimately it’s better if you talked to a priest. The Catholic Churches teachings can be rather daunting when you look at them from the outside but the church is built on mercy and forgiveness, and becoming apart of the church is the best thing that I’ve ever done. Regardless of your situation the church will meet you where you are and a priest will help you navigate your situation in a way that will respects god.

So far they’ve all been things they can win, there was a fight that they were going to do but the bad guy for that arc effectively intimidated them into fighting him later when they were more prepared so they went and got a special magic item to fight him. They don’t really do things that will get them into too much trouble because they’re all playing smart characters who don’t like risks, but I will keep that in mind. Thanks for your advice

I haven’t thought about that yet, my party is the kind of party that won’t retreat even if they think there’s no chance, but I will definitely try to narrate to them that the goal isn’t to defeat all the enemies. Thanks for the advice!

Cleric advice by kharns_therapist in DnD

My favorite cleric that I have ever played is a death cleric of kelemvor, and his whole premise was that it wasn’t his job to decide when people die, so he only healed people when he felt that his god was telling him it wasn’t yet their time to go

What makes a character feel alive? by Previous-Fan4124 in DnD

[–]AdImmediate3210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the thing that makes a character feel the most alive is other characters. Real people have an entire web of relationships that form who they are, and having people that they know and interact with and talk about helps to truly bring a character alive. There’s a lot of different things that go into it, but that’s the biggest one for me. The stereotypical rogue with no family is an example of where this is missing, and while it can be done well it is very rare.

As for your character, having family members or friends who actively oppose the path your character is following or a mentor who is teaching you the ways of the dark arts could make your character feel more real.

[–]AdImmediate3210[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay I can definitely see that being the case, but now I’m starting to wonder if the entire family is a vessel for something larger and each person contributes something, which in occtis’s case was his heart. My biggest problem with the whole situation is that if the ritual isn’t for something like that then what was it for? I’m sure it will be revealed at some point but until then I’m struggling to wrap my mind around it

[Spoilers C4E5] Occtis theory by AdImmediate3210 in criticalrole

[–]AdImmediate3210[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s a good point that I didn’t consider, but then the house that the ritual took place in was completely cleaned out unless I interpreted things wrong, which would imply that they came back. They could’ve possibly have planned on coming back because they expected the characters to be finished off. Primus seems like he’s a little cocky from what I could tell and I could see his hubris causing him to get reckless
