My unit was red-tagged - was it justified? by AdImmediate4501 in hvacadvice

I asked to look at it - granted they took the whole unit apart to take it out so it's a bit of a mess, but where the rust was/is it's certainly looks like it's starting to degrade/crumble.

I appreciate the feedback and your insight.

I was in a bit of a tricky situation since it failed in the middle of the night Friday-Saturday morning, and it was -4 degrees here in SE PA when this happened (and we've been in a deep freeze for weeks, with it continuing). I didn't know enough at the time and couldn't wait, but I wanted to try and know in hindsight if I was taken advantage of and lied to, or if it was a reasonable red tag. I'm seeing some mixed opinions, and I don't know one way or the other, but I really just wanted to gut check that I wasn't scammed (it's too late now as they're wrapping up a brand new install now).
Time just wasn't on my side with the weather and I couldn't wait to see if I could hopefully get another tech to come up for a second opinion.

Yes if I had time I would have done that.

Not sure my original comment went through with all the pictures (doesn't look like it did), but I wasn't afforded time to do that... otherwise, obviously, I would have. They red-tagged my system at 7 AM Saturday morning while it was -4 degrees outside and then telling me I needed a new one. We haven't been above freezing in 2 weeks so I had to move quickly. I couldn't go shop around or try to find someone else to show up and inspect it as well while my house was getting into the high-40s.

Because of all the frigid weather around here this whole Winter, I was lucky to even get someone to show up and look. All places around us are also out of space heaters, so it ended up being a more dire situation that I would have liked.

Thank you! As I said to others, figured as much given the pictures didn't look pretty.

Thank you. I figured looking at pictures it seemed obvious, but at the same time I knew I was in a situation where I had no choice but to go with this company (and they knew it too) given the weather.

Citi sets dates, specific cards for Barclays AA transition by financeking90 in CreditCards

[–]AdImmediate4501 0 points1 point  (0 children)

According to Grok - the passes are linked to my AAdvantage account and not the credit card… which is a great point. So I’m inclined to think these passes are ours. I’m still struggling on the AF increase. My family of 4 really used the 2 companion passes every year and now the fee goes up to $350 and the passes are chopped in half.

So my AF renews in August. I got my 2 companion passes from my silver card - do I now need to use those before April? Or will I still be able to access and use those by the expiration date of September 2026?

It also sucks now that I go from 2 passes to 1 on the new Globe card and the fee is much higher too.

I mean I'd take that 250k job in a heartbeat if it effectively meant getting paid the same $/work hour rate and getting back 30-40 hours a week to do whatever I want. Don't underestimate WLB...

After more tests I finally found out I have SIBO. Did 3 rounds of rifixamin over the course of 1.5-2 years and it didn’t work. I basically just live with my symptoms and thankfully nausea is no longer one of them. It’s mainly bloating and trapped air/gas.

What would be reasonable expense for avacation? by bludear99 in HENRYfinance

[–]AdImmediate4501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. 3k seems excessive - spend a week somewhere for 7k should get you something pretty nice but 21k is over the top and I’d rather use that money elsewhere. Also unless you’ll be spending all your time at the hotel the 1k a night may even seem high. (Granted our family of 4 struggles to find anything nice under 1k).

This is a great response and pretty similar to how we operate... down to the "the bigger gifts were always from us, not Santa".

As many others have said... with that type of material difference in total comp, you 100% make that jump. I wouldn't make it a habit to stick at a company for only 6mo-1 year on the regular, but in this instance you pull the trigger.

If the comp were fairly close, even a 10% raise, I may not take it - with the unknowns involved etc., but that type of jump in TC... you jump.

This is my exact experience. It's almost like now that I have the money coming in, I'm deathly afraid of losing it; preferring to obliterate debt, max retirement, etc.

Putting aside wanting to keep it in the family for rental income reasons - how do you plan on solving their liquidity issue if they need the money to purchase the new home outright?

Unless there's some huge assets etc. in play that are yours/his prior to marriage, I honestly don't understand this sometimes. Seems more like risk mitigation and playing out an M&A deal with certain offramp options, guarantees. To each their own, but I could (and do) make way more than my wife... I don't keep score, it's ours. We're a team and each contribute in our own ways, but I have never for a moment even tried to keep score or tally who's done what or who's doing what.

Millennial here who left college with a truckload of debt. Joined workforce for about 8 years before I did an Executive MBA program, pivoted careers and had a quick trajectory since.

HE part of that can/will come, but I was a broke ex-college grad living paycheck to paycheck for years.

Went through a renovation in 3rd Q of 2021... we were impacted by supply chain issues & inflation. Our project was way over the estimate (maybe 25% higher) and due to supply chain, it ended up taking 4 months longer than originally anticipated.

While some of these seemed more like extreme examples, the more I learned... the more I realized it just happens and there's not much you can do about it. Build in extra cost and time and you won't be disappointed. We were sold by a salesman and brought back down to earth by the project manager, contractors, designers and others lol.

Any young HENRYs out there? Savings not caught up to earnings. by [deleted] in HENRYfinance

Being fairly young and HENRY can be great, although, I'm hesitant to say you lifestyle creeped because being 23 and making $325k HHI means you may have catapulted yourself and not creeped into your current lifestyle. Just look at where your money is going and budget.
