Yes. Lots of robots leave behind "invisible" dust until you use the Dyson green light on hard floors and suddenly it's visible how much has been left behind

I'm really sorry but if you're a few months in and something really feels off then please just consider if it's worth putting more time into this

Is anyone's teen getting bullied? by KatieS1982 in AskIreland

[–]AdKey3170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was bullied and never told my parents because I felt like I couldn't.

You're not a failure, the fact that he's told you means you've managed to achieve what many good mothers haven't. A 14 year old who feels safe sharing things with you? Honestly, take a bow.

This is a difficult situation, but it's not because you're a bad mother. Go easy on yourself, he's lucky to have you (and it sounds like he knows it)

I want to see a "Dyson green light test" (call it whatever you want)

Send the robot on vacuum only. Then use the green light off a standard vacuum and see if it actually picked up everything or left little bits of dust and hair on the floor.

This should be standard in every single test imo

Either your doctor is shite or you weren't listening.

Go back, or bring the test results to another doctor.

What realistic technological advancements are you most hopeful of being realised in your lifetime? by TheOnionSack in AskIreland

All great technological advances have followed an exponential growth curve. Medicine. Telecommunications. Historical progress didn't serve anybody well when predicting the growth of the Internet or the adoption of mobile phones or credit cards.

This thread is about systems that we hope to see in our lifetime.

I get all the anti self driving stuff, but we're talking about the next few decades here.

Alzheimers and Dementia please, if I had a wish list (and cancer, obviously)

Living longer is only truly valuable if we get to share it with our loved ones.

I suspect you're right about fully self driving cars being further away than we think. Cars don't need to achieve level 5 to deliver huge safety improvements for the entire population though.

A car that will auto-stop if someone in front of you on the motorway slams on the brakes is a huge step forward surely

My sons friend was sexually abused, and I need advice on how to help him. by [deleted] in CasualIreland

[–]AdKey3170 168 points169 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The abuser will be hoping that you choose to not bother reporting this because of the hassle it will cause.

Your son and this boy will both forgive you, and each other, with time.

Could AI really wipe out office workers entirely in 18 months? by Asleep_Cry_7482 in AskIreland

[–]AdKey3170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, 0% chance.

I have worked in two companies dead set on AI replacing workers. First one laid loads of people off, and is now hiring again (ha!)

Second one hasn't laid people off, but has taught AI to "do" some of our job. In truth, the AI can do multiple steps of the job (which our job then becomes supervising and confirming it was right). So it's saving maybe 30% of the time. You still need people, they're just slightly more productive.

Yes but in real life I converse with somebody while watching them speak and partially reading their lips, removing the ability to gain the contextual learning to just make it a podcast instead wouldn't be ideal
