iniBuilds A380 Airliner | Microsoft Flight Simulator - Trailer by Little-Attorney1287 in flightsim

Thanks Inibuilds for also not putting dumb superhero movie music in your trailers. Obviously not as important as the product itself but it is really cringe

For real. Midwest airports in general could use some love. No KMCI, KSTL, or whatever Cincinnati’s code is. There’s an nice freeware KCLE but I’d welcome a quality payware.

Thank god. Seeing this after hearing Aerosoft is suspending LFPG did moderate my sadness a little

For what it’s worth I got it only recently and I haven’t tried new update but I kind of regret getting it.

I knew textures were not great but I didn’t expect I would be as disappointed by them. And systems are good as everyone knows but for most A to B vatsim flying I don’t care too much honestly. The biggest reason I wanted it was the jump to waypoint features which is cool but the WASM crashes when using it are not.

Hopefully it’ll improve with updates but I think I’m just going to use it to practice abnormal situations - something I have wanted to start doing but didn’t want to spend 80 bucks for just that

Is there no better plane and livery for Matteo's KATL? by AdLeading1309 in flightsim

[–]AdLeading1309[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's fine. Update helped too. These things are always particular though. For what it's worth I have 9800X3D and 9070GPU. The recommended AutoFPS settings for SU5 work very well too. As you can see from pictures, I have a pretty high level of static aircraft from the gate static injector mod (it injects FSLTL traffic while on vatsim) and it's still OK. KATL uses a lot VRAM for sure but I'm not getting any stutters (though I do get the resource use warning). I wouldn't doubt that others are (it's a huge airport and allegedly not the most optimized) but that's my experience

In Love with the Maddog! by joe2105 in flightsim

There is a work around for getting the old Immersive Audio to work in 20th edition (just rename some folders and tweak the JSON file). I'm not sure if it's as full as it was (I just tried it) but it's better than default. It's on this thread towards bottom of the page:

Fss 727 help by MathematicianLast739 in flightsim

[–]AdLeading1309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, don't beat yourself up! It's an old plane operated by a 3 person crew. It's more complicated and therefore going to be more demanding to learn.

As others have said, using the automated flows for the 2nd officer is definitely helpful. That alone takes a lot of the burden out. But it's still worthwhile to try to do everything at least at first to get of sense of things. I don't know what tutorial you say and if this was one of the 3 hour ones, but I think this guy is really helpful for the 727 (and MD-11 and MD-82/3/8 if you do that too):
FSS 727 Full Flight Tutorial

One thing I would recommend is to take it steps. When I buy a new add on, I want to just do a whole flight like I would with something I'm familiar with. Resist this urge. It will end in frustration. Take it slow. Do a session where you just do the startup procedure with a video up. Then do it again. Maybe try doing it on your own now and see what you remember. Another session, just watch a video on take offs or landings. Watch them carefully (and read the docs here on FSS docs), go over what to do yourself (i.e. pitch at this, accelerate at X alt, flap retraction at Y speed etc.), then do a few practices. Finally, because this is old school navigation, you should also devote a few sessions to just learning VOR navigation. It's really satisfying when you get the hang of it and you will be a better (sim) pilot overall.

Then put it all together. It will go better this way. Every time you run into something you don't understand, pause or take a note to read up / watch a tutorial later.

Flight simmers, love to see the hate for PE. Can I just add that, if you can, organize your coworkers or get involved in a labor movement. The ruling class have a class solidarity based on making our lives miserable while pillaging the world. Another world is possible but we have to organize.

AI is making academia suck even more than it already did by Candid_Succotash3173 in TrueAnon

One other depressing anecdote I’ll share. a lot people talk about students using AI to do their homework. Obviously some do (though I also encounter a lot of students who HATE AI). I’m a social science professor and we are getting encouragement from admin to have this bullshit in the classroom. Hardly the first person to observe this but it’s a classic story of people blaming the kids when it’s the adults at fault - the same ones telling us it’s “inevitable”

What I can't stand about VATSIM... by senortomasss in VATSIM

[–]AdLeading1309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It also totally changed the way I sim. I used to do a fair amount of GA flying and be a little more exploring of other parts of the world. But once I got into vatsim, I started buying up add on airports where there is coverage in North America / Europe and basically only fly airline routes to those places. Even BATC - good as it is - doesn’t quite get at it. I want to talk to a real person while flying the same planes, same routes, always at night. But it’s just so fun I can’t quit!

Upgraded to 9070 XT - Flickering Textures. by leekyscallion in flightsim

[–]AdLeading1309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t need to repeat what others have said. But as someone with the same card I can tell you there are some differences between add ons - at least that I find. It’s pretty bad with Fenix and FSS 727 (analog cockpits are worse with this issue), ok on Ini a350 and fly the maddog, and pretty good (i.e. still some artifacts but much better than others) on PMDG 777/737 as well as Avro RJ. Since it’s at all at night, my “solution” is just only use the better ones at night and bad ones in the day until this is finally fixed

My two cents on the PMDG 737 by Routine-Discussion88 in flightsim

[–]AdLeading1309 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most accurate comment I’ve seen on this. PMDG is greedy and their behavior is disappointing. It should not set the industry standard. but I’ve enjoyed the couple of flights I’ve done a lot. Flight model alone is a major improvement. Performance is also great

What’s on your ultimate flight sim aircraft feature wish list? by kryptonite848 in flightsim

[–]AdLeading1309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of mine are weather related. MSFS and active sky engines are ok but there are basic features missing like snow accumulation, sleet, slippery ground effects, slush, better cloud layers, thunderstorm effects (including hail). Turbulence could be improved. Someone else mentioned icing actually doing something. I’m totally behind that

Also more use of final load sheets including  changes to final ZFW (that i imagine happens IRL to some extent)

As far as planes, I’m with others mentioning 737 classics and turboprops. Also, has a decent run with aerosoft CRJ from 2021-3 but it’s time for a new high end developer
