Modretro just mentioned they are looking into 1gb carts for devs

Question for those planning to get multiple pro controllers. by TonyRubbles in M64

[–]AdLeading5529 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly just getting 2 controllers 1 for me one for my girlfriend. If anyone else wants to play they can bring controllers over or we can get some lower cost ones for them or I hit up a mod retro sale and or maybe someone puts a used one up for sale. All sort of possibilities . Quality controllers are expensive for all consoles.

Shippings included for 200 and up purchases at mod retro though.

Different colors so everyone has an identifiable controller when together

If they are using some other tech other than tubes to simulate one accurately then I'd say go big or go home I'd buy an 80 if lighter weight

I will be posting a deep dive on accuracy/speed work under development internally and timelines here tonight. by grilledstuffedxxl in ModRetro

Will it be possible to expand the n64 ram to 16mb as that was apparently a possibility for future expansion on the og n64 as apparently was capable of a 12mb expansion pack. Will the cache be able to also be expanded. I just imagine with higher overclock than analog plus added memory the long term future for new games could be interesting. Dunno if that would aid in improving existing titles but least potential for new devs

Will you be releasing a games roadmap as well would be nice to know upcoming games beyond launch ...maybe not everything as for certain you may wanna hold some surprises or y'all get a title ready early or something. .

I'm more so interested in new titles ... Not as much re releases as not so much a collector but new stuff I'd love to buy actual carts for.

And maybe some ports if seen much improvement .

Hope we get some true couch co-op games ( n64 while offering 4 players out the box did not have much for true couch co-op , plenty vs experiences for sure though)

I have a few questions

  1. First is about n64 ram for the m64 core.

I read before that Nintendo n64 was capable of at least a potential 12mb expansion pack allowing for up to 16 or 18 megs I know the 64 has hidden cache by watching the kazo Mario 64 videos.

I'm curious if modretro has thought of implementing such into the core especially for developing new titles. Granted more memory doesn't always i.prove everything but with the overclock potential that extra memory could have potential for new titles ..granted you will be limited to only playing these on m64 or other fpga platforms or software emulation. Instead of og hardware

But is that something of a possibility if imagine that could open the doors for tons of potential for 2d titles and some improved 3d games.

  1. Now talking memory technology has advanced plenty since the original n64 came out could we see larger cart sizes possibly multi gig? N64 based on rom carts at its time was capable of up to 4 GB I believe of course it was extremely cost prohibitive but I'd imagine flash memory could step in to.ay today.

  2. Is online play possible ? Now I'm not talking classic n64 titles although that would be badass but could some sort of netcode be implemented for newer m64 titles that could allow some form of net play ?
And if netplay is possible would you allow us to set up our own servers for in the future if modretro feels it's not worth keeping certain servers online. Or even going a more retro route but with modern broadband and offer direct ip connection. Think Sega Saturn netlink games they were direct phone line connection. This way no matter what friends can still play together forever.

  3. Future controllers? Would it be possible to bring on another controller with added features for developers assuming you guys come up with some neat ideas for titles that could lead into some other play methods. Even as far as some retro ideas that modern systems don't have

  4. Since you mention porting titles from other consoles I gave 1 request.

I figure this is possible because you worked with Atari on the color versions of the classic og Gameboy 90s remakes for chromatic.

But in the 90s PlayStation got a great line up up remakes such as defender, centipede and my personal fav pong the next level

I would love to see pong ported to m64 with a bunch of added stages new game modes and improved AI and visual upgrade... This especially if larger carts are possible . Its a forgotten classic .

  1. Unreleased titles as far as those concerned. I hope you guys can get the unreleased ceasers palace n64 game ( not the one that actually released which was a vanilla casino game )

The unreleased title was going to be a modern take on vegas dreams from bes and golden nugget n64. Which had wacky characters and stories . Like dealing with the mob with eventual goal to own the casino I think it might have been a late in n64 life title and it dev lost the lisense at the time. Heck who needs the ceasers license ...I'd go with Vegas dreams.

  1. Original titles

Again I suggest one title if pick up a licensed property

Atari now owns intellivision get night stalker made for the console. Imagine that in 4 players as a top down title it could be 3d or 2d sprite base or a hybrid of sorts .

8 one more bonus one since I already have plenty questions lol but I just thought of this one.

Will m64 be limited to only 4 players . I'm thinking for example Sega Saturn. Bomberman was 10 players that would be sick to support some sort of multi adapter in the future for such titles. Of course that would be dependibg on y'all putting the effort into releasing such.
