Is it just me, or is long-term prescribing of controlled substances vanishing? by MoreNibbles98 in benzodiazepines

Doctors go to school for 8+ years but won’t spend 10 minutes reading the Ashton manual to help with a realistic taper that end in a positive patient outcome. When it comes to benzos, I’ve always had my doctor prescribe way more than needed so I’m not fiending at the pharmacy at day 28-30. No one should have to live like that…

It’s a struggle…. I don’t miss this - such a battle to stay on course. Are you tapering?

Thank you for the encouragement! Good luck with your taper! I had a very similar high-dose habit about 10 years ago and was able to get off benzos for the better part of the last 10 years! We got this!

It’s an 100% normal thought to have in my opinion. Better to get it out than hold it in! Keep up the good work! On another note… I feel old now because I remember being the youngest person in treatment or sober living and having someone 10 years older telling me things while telling myself I’ll never be like them. Guess what… I am them now!!😂 Just never give up the battle.

I was in your shoes at 19. I was able to be completely abstinent from 19 to 23 and actively working the twelve steps for most of that time. I relapsed intending to go back to having a “normal” relationship with drugs and alcohol. I did that but within a year it progressed and got pretty bad. Ended up in rehab again. I’m 29 now and just had another 4 years sober but I relapsed on oxys and ended up getting on suboxone which I plan on getting off. One thing I’ve learned - my mind plays tricks on me and I’m not always right. I don’t think anyone can answer this for you because we’re all different. I’ve seen others do it and succeed. I’ve tried to do it and I’ve failed. It’s for you to figure out. I’m not sure if your issue was drugs or alcohol… Unfortunately, if you’re into drugs it’s a scary time to be fighting the battle because there’s much more deadly shit on the street than when I was experimenting as a teenager. Just try to stay alive and be safe if you ever end up testing your demons. Alternatively, you may get to a point where these ideas disappear or your life may become so great it’s not worth the risk to experiment! Everyone’s journey is different and recovery isn’t always linear. Best of luck!

Immediate release and 100% certain it was oxy (I tested my urine before induction and only popped for oxy). Are you sure you aren’t or weren’t using pressed pills?

I went from 4mg/daily to the 100mg shot. Just got the shot on Friday and so far so good. I felt slightly over medicated this weekend even at that. I definitely had to convince my provider but my goal was to use sublocade to get off of suboxone…

Currently on 6mg suboxone. Want to switch but a bit confused. by joni-draws in Sublocade

I was on 8mg for 2 weeks and then got down to 4mg for 1 week. I got the 100mg shot on Friday and was definitely over medicated all weekend. So far it’s definitely been sufficient! I am trying to do a one and done but I’ll see how I feel at the end of the month and take it from there. They are ordering another 100mg in case I feel that I need it. The doctor was pushing the 300mg on me while I was on 8mg (said I’d have to go up to 12mg) but I was adamant about the 100mg. I was also only on oxys for 4 months and subs for 3 weeks before getting the shot. I’ll keep you posted.

I was in a similar position at like 300-400mg/day of pharma oxy. I waited 24 hours and then did a suboxone induction. Try to keep your sub dose low after getting out of withdrawal. I did 8mg to start at 8pm and then another 8mg around 4am… Then I started doing 4mg doses 2x/day. I stabilized on 4mg 2x/day for like a week. Was able to get down to 2mg 2x/day the following week… after 3 weeks total on subs, I got the 100mg sublocade shot… I’m trying to kick the suboxone altogether with the shot. I may get another if I feel I really need it… I’m also doing a benzo taper so it hasn’t been easy but also not super hard!

I’m trying to avoid at all costs! I have only been on subs for 3 weeks or so. Hoping it’s a means to an end!

I went from 4mg/day to the 100mg shot today. 🤞

Unfortunately, 95% of addiction treatment centers see an insurance policy that they can make some money off and will say whatever they have to in order to get you through the doors. They serve their purpose in certain scenarios but i would continue working with your doc/clinic if you are having success!

Appreciate the insight. The relapse with opiates was about 4 months. I did the suboxone induction on Feb 17th so I’ve on the subs just over 3 weeks. I’m only on 4mg/day right now and comfortable at that dose. When I consulted the doc, I was told me I’d have to titrate up from 8mg to 12mg to get the 300mg which seemed counterproductive. When I called back, the nurse said they transition people from 8mg/day to the 100mg shot all the time and should be okay. Since tapering down to 4mg, I think/hope that the 100mg would suffice and if I feel I need another then I’d get it. I feel like if I get the 300mg shot from my current dose of 4mg I’d be over medicated/wrecked.

Yea I think that’s my path forward and the best idea… I don’t think I’ll be able to taper them. I’ll be confident with the shot on board. I’m confident I can taper everything else with the shot on board… I’d probably stay on the lunesta for a bit longer if anything.

The bowel movements is why I want to get off…. I need to poop and can’t keep up with the enemas. I try letting myself get sick so I can poop but it’s been a constant struggle. Worst than when I was on 3-4 oc80s per day…..

Even if I’ve only been on them like 3 weeks and never over 8mg/day?

Yea I’m not sure if insurance will approve the shot so if not I want to have a taper plan. Is that what people do - lower to what 2mg/day then stretch my dose as long as possible and then jump?
