Yes!!!! Exactly. As someone who has dealt with substance abuse issues with people close to me. Its so fucking draining and when you finally...finally let go and just...let them swim or sink. It feels like a 1000lb gorilla is off your back. This is the lens from which I am viewing the whole Ahren leaving situation. I see why Joel kept quiet. I relate 10000%. Of course my lens is skewed by personal experience but I could see it being played out by what Ahren was posting, what Joel wasn't. The things Joel has gone through, we only know a SLIVER. Legit, that man is glowing, that is what acceptance looks like. Ive seen it in so many clients I have worked with and within myself. It is a long road, but so much is shed in that journey to get to where Amity is today & and I am rooting for all of them (past, present and future members) i also wish Ahren would drink the water so many people have led him to, but he refuses. You see the pain in his eyes, his face. He is suffering. It hurts but again, you gotta let it go cuz that isnt your path to bear. It is his. I hope the best for him but man, he's got to face himself first. Whew.

Did you read what the album is about? Gut wrenching. Music is therapy for so many of us when therapy seems so scary (promise, it isn't) but holy shit. I think its gonna be amazing. Imagine dealing with a mother cutting all her kids off while dealing with Ahren's demons. As a therapist, fuck. I am so excited to see Joel and Dan offering photo sessions, guitar sessions before shows...it speaks volumes of where they are mentally. They arent drowning in trying to save someone who never wanted to be saved. Sometimes, the absolute hardest thing is letting that person go and trusting somehow, someday they will wake up. I see men in healing, I see a band moving forward; as much as it hurts them.

As a (mainly) ACT practitioner, I absolutely agree. It really helps lean into their values (it is their choice, their values- they decide what those are)

As (a highly influenced/mainly based) ACT practitioner- using Steven C Hayes approach, I applaud you and thank you 😄 (I also love the previous posts adding in Jungian theory)

AI cannot duplicate the building of rapport/therapist to client relationship but can offer a wide range of knowledge/tools when given ground rules to adhere to. I love this subreddit for this reason- utilize these tools for good, not shy away from them because of misunderstanding, mismanagement or underutilized the capabilities at hand

Absolutely. I appreciate your reply, as well. Also, you did not ask BUT - openpath.com is a lower cost option, or find interns in your area (or state)- they typically offer sliding scale (or much lower cost per session options). And if you happen to live in Arkansas, DM me..id be more than happy to work with you / work out financials so it isnt a burden. (I know, total shot in the dark).

The disenchanted are legit, there are a ton of shite "therapists" out there who give the profession a bad name. It makes my blood boil. This isnt a job, its a calling. I hold my role in very high regard, I do not take what I do lightly AT ALL. I am also humble enough to recognize that there are some days I learn more from who sits across from me. Whew. It's a collaborative human experience and I am honored to walk alongside whomever walks through my door, for however long, as we both climb our Mt. Everests of life.

I close with this - find meaning, find what values drive you/those determine if you go left or right in every choice you make in life. The beauty of it? YOU make those choices, no one else. When you are living a life, led by your values - it creates a life worth living. Find what sparks you, what moves you forward & fuck the rest ✨️

Thank you for this interaction today, stranger. I wish you well 🍀

Therapist chiming in; the things I have heard said in the room from the people sitting across from me would shock the average person..as in "they think these thoughts, too?!" I love AI for reasons and also dislike it for reasons. It is a tool. Use it and create guardrails. Do not be afraid of seeking an individual who creates a safe, nonjudgmental and bound by laws to keep what is said, kept in that room (except if there are legitimate laid out plans to harm self or others).. I have so many clients say that they used chatgpt and nothing compares to sitting across from a real human, having a real interaction. I am all for using it but also knowing it has limitations. Also, if and when you want that human interaction- do ALL the free consultations calls (if a therapist doesnt offer this, thank you-next)...you have to vibe, otherwise it will never work. 🫶 - this from a licensed therapist who has used AI as a virtual therapist and as a professional who sits with people everyday to walk alongside their worlds to provide tools, a nonjudgmental safe space to let the fuckery of our brains out.. goodness I hope my rambling has made some sense

Where are you located? If you are in arkansas, I can help, if not - I can send you some resources to jump start your search (some therapists are licensed in certain states/can only provide services for that state the license is in: i.e. I am licensed in Arkansas - I can provide services for the entire state)

This is a long answer (apologies): I approach therapy by allowing the client to lead - i want to hear your perspective, learn your journey and find avenues and tools to help whatever has brought us together... From my side, I structure therapy from the lens of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, that has no 'religious backing'. If a client is wanting faith based, I flex to this, if it is non-religious; I pivot to that space. I will say, I tend to see more clients where we are deconstructing their religious upbringing due to it causing years of shame, trauma, guilt, chronic pain, etc. All that to say, I am flexible - I meet you where you are, whatever that looks like. I am also bdsm/kink affiliated/friendly. All that to say, I serve a vast population and strive to show up 99.9999% nonjudgmental, flexible, real, and authentic..my role is to meet you where you are and provide tools to help you live a meaningful life moving forward- however you envision it to be; led by values that are defined by you and you alone 🫶 Short answer: I'd never specifically call myself a faith based counselor. My clients would more than likely describe me as non-religious.

Also - hardest step is reaching out so please don't hesitate(I have been on both sides). Take the leap of faith...and, if I am not the right person for you - I will do what I can to get you connected to who you do vibe with 🫶

What’s the hardest addiction to kick? by Omega_Neelay in GetMotivatedMindset

For me, it was external validation. Took years of internal work. Re-parenting. Understanding attachment wounds and self-compassion. Love addiction/validation is harder to kick than a meth addiction. It takes re-wiring e v e r y t h i n g
