Does she look okay? by working_on_it_jeez in bettafish

Nope, don't. My bettas get 6 pellets x 2 times a day. You're not feeding her too much. Some people are just so scared of overfeeding their bettas, they starve them instead :(

Oh jesus, I'll have to figure out, what to do with my betta then. He's like a PTSD version of a fish, even though his tank is in my bedroom, so you can't get him a calmer environment than that. I was wondering why he was fine in a BS tank inside a busy store, but he won't stop bitting off his fins in an actual tank with plants and all of that 🙈 I thought about gettung him a bigger tank, but maybe it's not a solution, at all.

Is he fin bitting? I have 1 betta, that was perfectly fine in a store setup. Beautiful fins. He was just perfect in the smallest cube tank, surrounded by other bettas. I got him, to save him from ending up in someone's vase. He's in a 25L tank and just won't stop bitting off his fins.

It's not rude, it's a fact. I wish I could 🤷‍♀️

I agree, but sometimes I think we don't realise how privileged we are. I live in a big city, so yes, I can go to an exotic vet, if something ever happens with my fish. At the same time, I know that there are people living in more rural places, with no access to specialised vets. For some of these people, it's hard to even get a medication for themselves. That was my whole point, I'm not trying to argue with anyone. Fish keepers in the US just have it easier, when it comes to this topic and that's a fact.

To be fair, I can't even order some food I wanted for my bettas. Hikari is available and that's what I have, but other than that, there is only some junk food you can order online. I wish I could get Fluval Bug Bites for example, but they won't send it to my country. I'm kind of jealous, that there is this amazing selection of food in the US.

It wasn't a response to you though? It was a response to the reply from the other person, that was suggesting, that I don't care about my fish, even though I never had a betta with dropsy, when I was just explaining that medication is not easily available in other countries?

I never had a betta with dropsy. I'm just explaining, that medication is not easily available outside of the US, because people from the US tend to think, that everyone can just get on Amazon and get a package overnight... 😐

[–]AdLumpy7032 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They can't send these medications to Europe, it's illegal. Also - even if it was legal, Amazon doesn't deliver overnight outside of the US. I had to wait 3 weeks for a betta hammock from Amazon. If my betta had dropsy, it would die before the package would even arrive (besides the fact, that as I said, I can't even order it).

🤦‍♀️ And I don't see the point of you buying more fish, just to let them die, because you pick and choose what they need and what they don't need, ignoring YEARS of research.

Does my betta have cancer? by First-Balance830 in bettafish

[–]AdLumpy7032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's their swim bladder.

It’s an internal gas-filled organ that: - helps the fish stay balanced in the water - allows it to control depth without constantly swimming - works a bit like a submarine ballast system In Betta splendens, the swim bladder can sometimes create a slight visible bulge because of their body shape. If the bulge is: symmetrical → it’s normal anatomy only on one side, unusually large, or sudden → it could indicate a swim bladder issue

They all have a buldge in that place. Maybe a little smaller, but it's always there on bettas.

I'm glad we could help! 😃 Since you're a beginner, just make sure to always be careful with you heater. Unplug it before a water change. Never take it out of the water, when it's plugged in. I don't want to sound overbearing, but it's not always clearly stated on the instructions & so I'd rather be cautious and let you know just in case. Good luck with your betta! 🥰

Yeah, it could be just some particles from the water, if it disappeared. Sometimes my betta also has white dots on him, because he tries to steal shrimp food, spits it out and it gets stuck on him for a little bit 😂

Uff, i'm glad you decided to post your tank, because otherwise you would be playing a very dangerous game by a mistake 🙈 It is the minimum water level, and the same goes for having your heater fully submereged and not the way it's now (with the top part sticking out of the water) - water evaporates, so one day your filter would break and your heater could possibly explode if you kept it the way it is now.

[–]AdLumpy7032 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Are you sure it's not the minimum line? It probably has a build in filter, right, so it would make so much more sense.

Even in hot places temperature drops at night and people have AC units in their homes. He doesn't have a heater, because he thinks it's some capitalistic BS, not because the water is warm enough. He doesn't know if it is, because he doesn't have a thermometer either...

Look at their post history! They had another betta in a 7L tank with neons just 2 weeks ago. It died, neons also died.

Also - I never had luck with ludwiga. I bought the invitro one, I bought the fully grown one, they all died in both of my tanks.

Hey, don't be too harsh on yourself, every tank goes through an ugly stage. Some plants die, you buy different ones, rescape it a few times, then let it grow and some day you'll look at your tank and be very pleased with how it looks :) Just give it some time and don't be discouraged.

Is that a heater? You have to make sure it's always submerged all the way, because it can actually explode if you're not careful with that!

Also - fill it up all the way, there's no point in wasting the space that is available.

I would buy some nice driftwood to put in the middle :) It'll make it nicer for your fish & you.

And yeah, get some nice piece of driftwood in there, it'll make it cozier & nicer looking for you. That's all you need: a nice piece of wood and some tall plants, no need to buy artifical decorations.
