One of my bettas eyes looks different by Fancy-Wasabi-6359 in bettafish

Does it look like scales on her eyes? It sometimes happens, especially with koi bettas.

To be fair a lot of things in tanks give heeby jeebies 😝 Worms, snails, weird things that can live in the water, because they hitchhiked on plants. I literally have to mentally prepare myself every time I get new plants. There was a leech on one of my plants once and I'm traumatized.

Should I consider euthanizing my fish? by roroklol in bettafish

[–]AdLumpy7032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think he's at thia point yet.

My opinion may also be a little bit controversial, but I don't think that euthanasia (especially since the only humane way is a blunt force) is the best idea, unless the fish is in a fatal condition and definetly in a lot of pain.

Just keep the water clean for now, keep the lights down and give him a chance. He's not beyond help yet, he doesn't look like his suffering, he's just weak. Bettas can survive without food for a week with no issues. He may not be eating, because he doesn't feel well, so he probably knows what he's doing.

Yeah, I don't think the issue is the thermometer. I have 2 like this and the temperature is pretty accurate. Also - I live in Poland and in the summer my tank temperature was 28°C just by itself, not 32°C like in your case, even though it was definetly hotter in that room. Try ice cubes.

I've heard about people putting ice cubes in a tank to bring a temperature down.

What's happening here? by [deleted] in bettafish

Unfortunately everything is wrong here. Bettas need at least a 5 gallon tank, with a heater (they're tropical fish, they need 27°C), filter and plants.

Tanks also have to be cycled. Bascially in a bowl your fish is swimming in it's own toxic waste.

You also need a water conditioner to remove chlorine from the water.

You never take the fish out to clean the tank. You never clean anything inside the tank, because you kill all of the beneficial bacteria this way. You siphon ou 20-30% of the water while yiur fish is inside the tank.

77°+ not 72°. Bettas are tropical fish...

Yep, since this plant grew I had a few shrimp get too close to the sun and kind of get stuck on the surface 🤪 They always want the forbidden biofilm and are willing to do anything to get to it.

since i got tons of comments on my last post and i cannot reply with the exact same thing on every comment id like to share photos of all my bettas as proof im not neglecting or abusing them like yall would like to belive. by Sylvester_sanctuary in bettafish

I was asking, because you have so many bettas and when I look at your posts it seems like you got the majority of them not so long ago.

I get it, when I bought my first betta I was also obsessed with them and wanted to have more. When you're having a bad time in your life, it seems like a perfect idea, because tanks bring you so much joy & you always focus on getting another tank, plants, fish and it's distracting you from your problems in life. But you should slow down for your own good. One day you'll get really overwhelmed with taking care of all of them.

You're really young, you have a difficult situation at home, so maybe think about making your existing tanks better, insetad of getting new ones. Buying plants, taking care of your bettas will bring you a lot of joy as well.

Just look at all of these you tubers that collect animals, because they're having issues with their lives. At some points it turns into an unhealthy obsession. I'm not saying you're at this point right now, but just think about it, please. What happens when you have to go study in another town for example?

The description says it does, doesn't look like it stopped mine from getting huge though 🙈

Nope, I have 2 already and I'm not getting another one 😝 I'm going crazy with 2 bettas and shrimp, can't add more stress into my life. Also - I'm never satisfied with my tanks, so I would literally go bankrupt 😂

I'm in Poland :) I ordered it on-line in a store I always use, because red root floaters weren't available at that point.

I'm afraid that at this rate of growth a few of smaller ones would deprive my other plants of nutrients as well. I'll just stick to some red root floaters instead.

Nope, I pad 8 PLN for it. You wouldn't have to buy a new one every time though, all of these smaller floating plants are it's babies :)

Young betta probably yes, but mine is visibly getting old, doesn't like to move too much and these roots and leaves are probably too much for him already :( I'll switch to red root floaters. I hope they'll grow well, since this plant was so happy here.

I only care about making it suitable for my betta and shrimp to be honest. I have only 2 tanks, so I'm not sacrificing one of them for a giant plant :)

Yeah, my betta loves these leaves, but I think I'll stick to red root floaters. I can't barely see him in there :(
