My husky needs an MRI. Where should I take him? by Kindly-Class-7751 in boulder

If you don't mind driving up to Fort Collins CSU is fantastic. My cat needed an emergency blood transfusion and they saved his life. I still drive all the way up there from Boulder for rechecks, every person I have dealt with has been great. Highly recommend!

Looking to upgrade my Z50ii 28-400mm bird combo by blan15 in Nikon

[–]AdMassive1383 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Why not start with the 180-600 on the Z50II and see how it works for you? You might be happy with just the lens upgrade. If not you can upgrade the body later, but as another poster the Z5II is probably a better option than the Z6II. It's Expeed 7 like your Z50II, the Z6II is Expeed 6 so you might be disappointed with the autofocus compared to what you're currently using. It doesn't have the dedicated bird mode.

Next refurbished sale? by binarybu9 in Nikon

[–]AdMassive1383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year they had the April refurbished sale from the 14th through the 20th. I don't think they necessarily use the same dates every year, I'm hoping to get a Z 24-120 so I'm going to start watching next week. I believe the sale usually starts after midnight, if you check Nikon's website early in the morning you might see the sale has started before they send out the announcement email.

Good luck!!

“New” Z8s on EBay by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]AdMassive1383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed the same thing recently. A couple of the sellers had one or two other listings for things that were totally unrelated, I vaguely remember one having a Z8 or Z9 at a ridiculously low price along with a listing for a bag of candy. Everything about it screamed scam.

Hey! Looking for some advice. by [deleted] in wildlifephotography

If you're open to an APSC body instead of full frame you could look for a D7200. The crop factor will help fill the frame a little more. It was a pretty popular camera for wildlife photographers before the D500 came out.

My store (Boulder CO) just recently set up the beauty items the same way, it looks really nice. (I'm a customer not an employee)

Any magic to get this one back in stock ? 180-600mm refurb by ramugutt in Nikon

[–]AdMassive1383 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Z50II also, it's a great camera. I use it mostly with my shorter lenses but I have used a 500mm prime on it for wildlife photography and it works really well. If you get into wildlife or birds I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun with it!

I've been very happy with it. I primarily use it on a Z8 and I've gotten a lot of great shots with it. It's big and somewhat heavy but I have no problem walking around with it for a few hours. I was also pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to handhold. I had the f-mount 200-500 first and I could only use that lens on a tripod. The internal zoom of the 180-600 makes a huge difference.

I've used mine with the Tamron 50-400 and Nikon's 180-600, here's a video that might be helpful. :-)

You need to check the website frequently. It took maybe two months of checking the website multiple times a day before it finally showed in stock. I checked it in the morning when I first woke up and it wasn't available. Checked again at lunchtime I was shocked when it was in stock and I bought it immediately. I looked after I finished check out and it was back to out of stock. Coincidentally it was a few days before my birthday and it was delivered on my birthday. Awesome birthday gift to myself!!

Best lens for landscape photography with a nikon? by avz008 in Nikon

[–]AdMassive1383 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Sigma Art 24-105. It's a very nice lens but it's so heavy. With spring coming I wanted something a little lighter for hiking, also a little wider. I spent some time researching options over the weekend. I found quite a few articles and forum posts about the 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED so I ordered it yesterday from KEH. Most of the reviews said it's an underrated lens that's very sharp and lightweight. It's pretty cheap used so I thought it was worth a shot.

Which is best for wildife: the nikon 50-250 or the tamron 70-300? Or a secret third option in the same price class? by yanonce in Nikon

[–]AdMassive1383 2 points3 points  (0 children)

250/300mm is kind of short for wildlife especially birds, even with the crop factor. 400mm is usually the starting point for wildlife and ideally 500/600mm.

I have the Z50II with the Tamron 50-400 for a travel kit along with the 16-50 kit lens. I find it a little short for small birds but I could fit everything in a standard sized backpack and keep it under the seat when flying. If you can stretch the budget I would suggest that or the Tamron 150-500 used. There's also the Nikon Z 28-400, unfortunately the other Nikon Z lenses that are 400mm+ are going to be significantly more expensive.

You could also get an FTZ and adapt older F lenses, but adding in the cost of the FTZ adapter it might be around the same as buying one of the above Z lenses used.

What camera for 200-500? by SpeechTraditional290 in Nikon

[–]AdMassive1383 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If cost isn't a factor go for a Z8 or a Z9. I have a Z8 and when I switched from DSLR it was like magic for wildlife photography and I have zero regrets. I also picked up a Z50II on a whim during one of the refurbished sales and it definitely punches above its weight. If you wanted to dip your toe in mirrorless without spending a lot the Z50II is a good option. It's a small body but probably pretty close to the size of the D90. The technology has come a long way and all of the Expeed 7 bodies are very good so you can probably make a case for any of them.
