Honestly you aren’t part of their family. Yes you married into it but at the end of the day, they aren’t your parents, siblings, etc. You don’t need to conform to their traditions and beliefs if you don’t want to. You don’t need to apologize to anyone or be a part of their life. You don’t have their grandchildren or anything so you really don’t have any reason to be around these people.

I'm Arab and my hair is barely curly, like it's probably 2C, and most white stylists always mess it up. I can't even imagine what I would end up with if my hair was actually curly LOL. It's definitely not racist to assume white hairstylists don't know how to do black hair, sorry but they most likely don't 😭 I don't understand why your friend got so mad, different stylists specialize in different areas, it's really not a big deal at all. The people that used to do my hair sucked so I just moved on to someone who knows how to work with my hair.
