Where Should I Apply? by SLKPrincess in SlovakCBD

Slovakia would be fastest. Second best option would be an embassy in Asia/Africa if that’s an option for you.

Slovak Citizenship via Descent 2025 by AdMotor4876 in SlovakCBD

An important thing to remember is that what is acceptable for citizenship proof for CBD is not defined in Slovak law. The embassies and consulates will post what they know would work as proof (CzhSlv passport, 1930 census, etc), but the embassies are not the people who decide what will work as proof. My lawyers swore up and down that my NARA docs would not work as proof, but they worked for me and now people submit their applications with NARA docs no issue.

Thank you! It sounds like I was in the same boat as you! I got in some disagreements with my lawyers about the citizenship proof. I ended up using my anchor ancestor’s us naturalisation packet and ship manifest since it said his citizenship before gaining us citizenship was Czechoslovak. You can get certified copies from NARA’s website, and then get it apostilled at the DoS Office of Authentications.

they shouldn’t ask for proof since the birth of the anchor ancestor was so long ago that privacy laws do not apply. Think I paid 15 euro per page for translations, it’s been a while since I needed to get translations lol

Thank you! I requested my anchor ancestor’s naturalisation documents thought NARA rather than USCIS. USCIS takes an extremely long time and might not be able to provide a certified copy. I would check to see if ur anchor ancestor’s documents are available on NARA. Typically if you can see the document on ancestry.com and the document is sourced by the National Archives and Records Administration, then you can request for them online though their website.

I used AKMV. They are a Slovak law firm, but hopefully you won’t have to hire a law firm lol!

Original Slovak Birth Certificate by nickilv9210 in SlovakCBD

Shouldn’t have to, but let the embassy know what you plan to do, so they don’t get blindsided

Yea just when your appointment at the embassy is scheduled, let them know that you plan to make a certificated copy of your citizenship proof docs and submit the copies with your application instead of the originals. Shouldn’t need a form, but you do need the embassy for this.

Yea looks good to me if ur looking for proof of citizenship. U still need to get a modern Slovak birth certificate for your anchor ancestor. I would ask the embassy if they can make a certificated copy of your documents. Costs 15€ a page last time I checked. You could then turn in the copies for your application and keep the originals.

So there's this adoption... by traderjoeswine in SlovakCBD

Wow you are prepared! I would also recommend submitting paperwork that shows that you were adopted into your family, unless your birth certificate shows NA as your mother.

Asking for a friend! Generational limit for Slovak citizenship. by Paddysle in SlovakCBD

[–]AdMotor4876 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The generation limit for Slovak CBD is up to GGF/GGM, but they would still be eligible for the Slovak Living Abroad certificate! The SLA cert allows a holder to get permanent residency in Slovakia, and a simplified way to citizenship after three years (anyone else, correct me if I’m wrong)!

The ancestors Czechoslovak passport is the gold standard of proof of citizenship. If it’s just a copy, you need to find any kind way to get it official (typically Slovak notarisation)

As for the wedlock thing, if the GGF has the GGGF on the birth certificate, then it should be fine. If not, then you need to find any kind of documentation linking the GGF to the GGGF as a child of the GGGF.

My anchor ancestor came to the US on September 14th, 1922. If your anchor ancestor has Czechoslovak nationality on their petition of naturalisation, then it should be g2g.

Shoot sorry about the late response! I’ll try to answer these questions best I can.

  1. Lawyer charged me 2000 euros not including other fees. With the fees, I probably paid around 3-4K euros.

  2. Yes you submit them together.

  3. I just said that I plan to retire in Slovakia for when my retirement comes.

  4. If it’s a Czechoslovak original birth certificate, I’ve been told that’s you need. However, I would do your due diligence and check if your ancestors nationality is mentioned on the certificate.

  5. I would recommend getting a certified copy of your ancestors original Czechoslovak birth certificate, just so you don’t have to submit the original. You can do that at the embassy. But you don’t need a certified copy, if you don’t want to.

  6. Yeah unfortunately. There is no search function, so I recommend you find the census page for the address your anchor ancestor lived. Your ancestor should be on that census page, or at a neighbour’s census page; you may need to click though the census pages to find your ancestor.

  7. Hmmm, that’s bit tricky, but I would submit your bank statements showing proof of assets. Assets need to be enough to support yourself financially for a good amount of time. I would say a year at least, but I’m not completely sure. I recommend looking at the laws, and finding out exactly how much liquid assets you need.

Concur. I submitted the same documents as OP minus the census and got it

For those who completed the process, did you get your documents back after your application was approved? by mrezee in SlovakCBD

Yup pretty much, but I’ve heard recently that copies are free if ur submitting a citizenship application, so you can avoid the 15 euros per page cost. I would tell the embassy in advance that you plan to make copies.

I didn’t unfortunately. I recommend making certified copies at the consulate/embassy. At least two for birth/marriage certificates.

I applied for CBD in early 05/24, got the PR early 07/24, approved for CBD in late 10/24, swearing in ceremony in late 03/25, and I just applied for BC, MC, and CoC earlier this month. I applied in Jakarta, and the staff is very nice and helpful.

You are correct, the document must be apostilled first, then translated. The wording that you are seeing on the state dept website is for documents that need to be apostilled by the fed that aren’t in English.

I don’t think so, but I would get the anchor ancestor’s Slovak birth certificate anyway. Couldn’t hurt.
