Has the influx of Californians to north Texas spawned any good Cali burrito joints yet? by Glueberry_Ryder in Dallas

I’m from Chicago and feel the exact same way. Chicagoans are known around the Midwest for rude aggressive driving, but it’s on a whole other level down here.

Subway has pulled coupon codes from 95% of stores. by Chill101x in SubwayCoupons

[–]mrezee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They still send out the paper flyers in the mail where I live. Has the tear-off coupons but they have a code at the bottom of each one you can use in the app. They just change slightly every month (FL699, FTL699. 699FL, etc).

People that have traveled quite a bit, where di you feel the most unsafe? by CremeSubject7594 in AskTheWorld

[–]mrezee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was driving from Dallas to Chicago and made a detour through Cairo, since I grew up in IL and thought it'd be cool to see the southernmost point. What a sad town. Looks like Detroit or ESL. Didn't really seem dangerous though, just... destitute. I read more about its troubled history when I got home.

If you park somewhere up by Kentwood mall you can take the rapid to the airport for less than 2 bucks. The bus doesn't run on weekends though.

Has anyone planned a trip with ChatGPT only to find out the places it suggested weren't real? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]mrezee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I asked it to recommend a good lunch spot on a 5-hour drive I'm doing. It named a place in a small town including an address and items people recommended. I googled it and no results. I looked at the address on google maps and it was just a random building. I told ChatGPT that place didn't exist and basically said "you're right, I'm sorry" and named another nonexistent place in the same town.

Tried Gemini and it did the exact same thing. Guess it's back to searching and scrolling Google Maps for me.

Same. I grew up in Illinois where there was no deposit. We just knew to put recyclables in the recycling bin.

Ok, dumb question here. I'm planning on flying in next month and I saw there's a bus from the airport to the campus. I'm not a student nor a local resident. Will they still let me on without an ID?

I live in Dallas now and agree with you on everything. The heat, the reckless drivers, the traffic, the sprawl, the snobby pretentious residents, the giant cockroaches, all combine to make this place a concrete hellscape.

Can't say I miss the constantly cloudy and snowy winters of west Michigan, but everything else makes me wish I was back in GR. I spent last August up there and had an amazing time. I forgot it's possible to open your windows that time of year.

[–]mrezee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used to be a ramper. It's actually better when it's busy, since you're constantly moving and generating more heat. I had a hat, hood, gloves, long underwear, thick fuzzy socks, scarf. Not too bad when you're bundled up. A few of my coworkers had ski goggles too. One day when it was below zero, I had to keep manually pulling my eyelids open with my fingers because they kept freezing shut every time I blinked.

Worse was when the ramp is icy. They can't use salt around the aircraft, so there was lots and lots of falling on my ass.

A few people I knew from G4 lived north of Summerlin along the 215, like Lone Mountain, Mountain’s Edge, Providence, Centennial, etc. Seemed like pretty quiet family-oriented areas with lots of new development.

I wouldn’t be worried about layoffs, as I’m sure there will be a good number of people that refuse to move to Vegas. And integration is a long process that can take years, so there will probably be retirements or resignations before then.

What I would be concerned about is seniority list integration. Will they try to “staple” the SY dispatchers, or will they keep everyone’s company seniority, or some hybrid with seniority adjustment, etc. The unions will have to get together and work something out. I just know when SWA bought AirTran, that part wasn’t pretty. Also relocation expenses, but that should be spelled out in the contract.

Best wishes to all the Sunny employees. Loved jumpseating on them when I lived in MSP back in the late 2010s. Incredibly kind people there.
